What would be the reason to discontinue the squirt and continue the micra? No outside accessible tools, and scissors only. Their prices have gotten pretty high for what is offered.
I'm looking to replace a terrible keychain tool that is so off brand, you will probably never review it. Your video is great. The nextool flagship mini is the right price point and featured that I need. Thanks for making a great video!!

I feel like if Victorinox wasn’t so conservative in their business approach they could sit down and easily design a small pliers based tool that would dominate the market.
I kinda like that they don't. Its kindof like after all tge trendy Leatherman styles came out they stood behind their product for the classic it already was. That said, I'd def also be more likely to covet their offering in any dept. I waited til I was 12 to get my Grandfather's red Camper swiss. He died before I was born and my Dad alwats said it would be mine. I carried it everywhere. It never left my pocket. I had it 4 years and then one day on tge way to my cousin's wedding, an airport employee threw it in a trash barrel as we were boarding. It was 1996 and I was a shy kid and had no recourse. It breaks my heart to this day. I have never replaced it but this channel makes me want to. I have no use for a corkscrew so I think I want tge hiker. It seems to be the same but with a full sized Phillips where the corkscrew was.
While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal ru-vid.comUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.
Squirt S4 is KING! My edc since many years together with the stainless Maratac aaa. Fits perfectly in the coin pocket! 😊👌 Might add that I've also had a couple of Micras, P4:s and one PS4 but the S4 is the only one left... 😍
I have a Dime and my wife has the Nextool Mini Flagship. Both great little pocket tools. The dime definitely could have used some upgrades. If the blade was replaced with a full length file/flathead and the screwdriver section had a steel plate on the scale side for extra support I'd be extremely happy.
Just flew to Thailand and back with a stylePS and a PT-2 in my carry on. TSA didn't bat an eye on multiple airport entries state side and never said anything. Flying through Incheon (S Korea), they asked to take it out and checked it that it didn't have a blade, then let me through with it as well. Obviously anecdotal and everyone's trip may be different but that has been my first hand experience very recently (March)
@@maxlvledc yeah i was pleasantly surprised at how seamless and painless it was. i had leathermans site open in a tab on my phone expecting to have to show them that it was "tsa approved" and no one in the US ever said a thing over something like 6 entries between the trip out and back.
Gerber Dime has very poor quality control. Mine was so hard to open that I lost a chunk of my fingernail. When I loosened the screws a tiny bit, it didn’t work as intended. Trash if you ask me.
I still don't understand why they decided to stop production of the Leatherman Squirt PS4. It was the perfect little multi-tool in every way. I lost a Leatherman Squirt PS4 a couple of months ago (still hoping it's at home somewhere) and when I tried to buy a new one, Leatherman no longer makes it.. I looked on ebay and saw that new Leatherman Squirt PS4s from various sellers are on sale now at speculative prices... I wrote a letter to Leatherman to explain why they stopped making the best mini multitool, but I did not receive a coherent answer. It seems to me that they have some kind of serious problem, maybe with some kind of supplies ... I don’t know. So I started looking at the Leatherman Micra. It looks interesting, but all the tools are available only after opening, plus this stupid nail file ... I don’t understand why it’s there .. Therefore, I’m already looking at Leatherman FREE T4 and now I’m choosing between T4 and Micra. Both are compromise options for me. The rest of the multitools are NOT made in the USA, and therefore do not interest me. Maybe Victorinox has a little chance...
@@maxlvledc Thank you for recommending Deluxe Tinker. I don't think I've noticed this tool yet. And I would also like to know your opinion about the Leatherman Free series. How do you like their idea? You can access tools without opening, magnets (I know about metal chips sticking to them), one-handed opening / closing. It seems yesterday Leatherman decided to stop production of the Leatherman Free P4 (everyone was complaining about the magnets, lack of proper tools/bits). But the Free idea itself is very good. But apparently it was not implemented very well.
That was an informative clip and well done. I’m 75 and have never owned a multi tool. A little slow on the uptake, you say? So……in an effort to make my life complete and close the circle on my Smart Watch, I recently ordered two Leatherman PS models from Blades Canada. One was for my son-in-law. However, he may never get it. That’s because the tweezers on the PS are nearly impossible to remove. So one actually requires a second PS to remove the tweezers from the first. You have to hand it to the genius marketing people at Leatherman who came up with that requirement. But it’s a cute tool and I like it. And BTW……once you get the tweezers removed, the Victorinox tweezers are almost a fit, protruding only slightly………which I can live with. Now this is all rather silly, because I almost NEVER use tweezers. Go figure. Thanks for the great clip.
The Leatherman PS is travel friendly. I used to carry one on my keys before I got into larger multitools, and I took it on planes multiple times. TSA never said anything and they definitely looked at it everytime.
Hi, I had to use twice the warranty on my wife's squirt, scissors spring broke(surprise, surprise). Great tool though. Me personally, have classic sd victorinox, my favourite, combined with light and small (£10 bill) container, and my keys are always in my pocket. Dime looks like a good bargain. I don't remember seeing a Gerber Crucial on your channel, also a great tool, light and compact, checkit out, it's worthit. Cheers 👍
I’d love a Skeletool with beefier pliers. I have been carrying my CX daily for years and love it. It has everything I need and nothing more. I carry a Free P2 on the weekends and would be happy to keep the bigger pliers and trade some thickness and weight for most of the other tools other than the knife blade (I’d rather non-serrated like the P4), Philips and flat drivers. I’d be happy to swap both combined with a Wave style bit holder.
Victorinox Alox Rambler is by far the best utility to size/weight. All the tools are surprisingly good for how small they are, seriously, have a good look. Shame it’s not available any more but I modded a Cellidor scaled Manager with titanium scales.
I had the same issue with scissors breaking on the Style PS. Leatherman has not been impressing me with quality or design for some time. My go-to tools have been the Juice (discontinued) and the Squirt (discontinued). They're lucky they still have the Wave+ and Rebar in their lineup otherwise they would be dead.
I have a Leatherman Squirt with the wire strippers instead of the pliers and I love them. I have a free p4 on my hip so the pliers aren’t a necessity for me. I do a lot of small wiring repairs and installation so always having the strippers is nice to have on my person at all times.
I love the squirt too; keep mine in my desk drawer at work, but I think you nailed why they're discontinuing it. The spring on the scissors fails constantly (and on the style as well, since they're the same). Hopefully they're designing a replacement tool.
About 6 years ago there was a Christmas sale on the Gerber Dime for $10. I bought 6. 4 for gifts and I kept two. Since then I bought 2 more so I have one for each car. I really like the Dime. The package opener is the best. I've used all kinds of knives and cutting utensils, but this one is kinda perfect. And when I let my kid use it to open a box, it's one of those angled blades so it won't cut the item in the box. It's always in my pocket. The scissors are the weak point. They are fine for light use, but not much more. No worse than most other pocket multi tools.
I thought it was pretty funny that you look at the Roxon M2 and talk about the scissors being absurd then look at the mini flagship and sing its praises for the large scissors and the execution of the both is nearly identical.
If you do want a bottle opener the Dime's is amazing. But makes an awkward shape that can catch when carrying. The package opener is great both for its inclusion and execution. The knife blade is relatively sturdy being sheepsfoot, but a point would be more useful. Flat driver is good, and the Phillips is ok but they should ditch the excuse for a file that comes with it. I do miss the full size good file of the squirt. The dime is not as well made as the squirt, but then it is much cheaper, at least in the UK.
Really well done video! Thank you for putting this together. I’ve been looking for a multitool smaller than the Leatherman Surge. I like the Surge but it can be a bit heavy and want something with similar tools, definitely as reliable as a Leatherman, but not some cheaply made knockoff from China/India junk. It’s also good to learn that there are “tsa friendly” multi tools out there, when traveling. What is most important to me as I’m searching for the “right” multitool, is how it fits in my hands, do the tools lock, and how well they are made.
This sucks so bad, I love my Squirt which is still in pristine condition for now, luckily. I don't even know what I would replace it with in case of damage - maybe I would just go back to an Alox Minichamp. No pliers (which sucks) but the rest of the tool is just amazing. At least it wouldn't feel like a shittier version of a Squirt unlike my Dime or the Flagship Mini. But that's just me.
I have decided to keep my Gerber Dime for now. I had it on my "sell on ebay" stack since I got my Squirt but now that I can't get a replacement if necessary... sucks 😑
Regarding Nextool Flagship Mini and quality control: my scissors don't cut anything at all. Really a shame for the size is quite nice. Victorinox though hasn't disappointed me in that regard and my keychain tool is the Manager (though that one got discontinued as well).
Good day Manachtron, hoping you are doing well, if NexTool mini flagship pro with any quality issue, please contact us on the platform you bought, then we can slove the problem for you.
I've carried my Style PS through airport security dozens of times without issue. I had a TSA agent ask me to take it out of my bag and put it loose in a bin with all the tools deployed, so that is how I've taken it through security ever since. I did have the scissor spring break while traveling at Christmas. Leatherman fixed it under warranty with no hassle, other than having to pay to ship it to them.
I agree I don't need the bottle opener on the "Dime" and I wish the file was a little longer when I have a torn fingernail at work. I also like the package opener.
I travel with my Style PS and Victorinox Jetsetter. I've never had an issue except when I grabbed the Rambler on accident. Just expect the tsa agent to open each implement, so it does add time.
Absolutely love the Dime's box opening tool. I wish more companies would replace the nail file (they're all terrible compared to proper nail files and never used them even in a pitch) with a form of that box opener. Sure the knife blade is there but with tape being so sticky it's a pain to clean and wear out the blade faster than the cardboard ever does in my experience.
@@allenvasher5358 the bottle opener is a great design. The blade and package opener are nice too. It just didn't feel well built when I had one. I'll most likely pick one up during a sale though. I'm wondering if the flat screwdriver is strong enough to open a paint can, like the squirt is.
@@T-Mo_ yeah grabbed mine on clearance. I don't see the need for a package tool if it has a knife, & I would have appreciated a longer file or many other tools they could have put on that slot
Now the Style PS is discontinued too. Is Leatherman about to abolish themselves, discontinuing all of these absolutely successful products? Now if you want a lightweight EDC multitool, you can't buy from them anymore 'cause they don't have nothing to offer in that range. 🤷♂
I still love the dime travel, I actually use the hook on that so freaking often for small wires that I need to pull from machinery. Funny enough I carry it more than the squirt, it's a shame they discontinued it.
I've been carrying Swiss Army Knives and all the multi tools for nearly 40 years now. I can't think of a single time I've ever needed scissors. 🤷 Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure the only time I EVER use scissors is when I'm wrapping presents. I'd much rather have a different tool like an awl or file that would actually be useful. If I need to cut something, I just use the knife blade.
All of the tools shown here are perfectly serviceable but it somehow makes me pine even more for the Squirt. I own a single, now very well used example and wish I had bought a few more when I had the chance. Leatherman should really take note of what is said here and also on other platforms and consider reintroducing the Squirt. It would be very popular.
I have been able to pass through TSA security with my PS. I open it up and show it to them. That prevents them from opening and closing it and breaking the scissor spring.
I have both the Flagship Mini, and the NextTool Sailor (I think you called it a Captain, marketed differently I guess). I really like both, but the Sailor gets more pocket time. I'd like a Powerpint, but living in the UK EDC stuff needs to have a non-locking blade. I often carry a Leatherman Bond for this reason.
I removed both blades from my PowerPoint to make it UK legal. Sounds crazy, but I EDC a Vic Manager which gives all the blade I need. I am a huge fan of Victorinox, but find their pliers useless.
I feel the exact same way about the Dime.. that package opener is awesome, I use it wayyy more than the blade. I would trade the blade for a full size file or a philips with some reach. I do like the bottle opener simply because the type of venue I would carry the Dime at often happens to be the type of venue where I might have to open a fancy craft beer or three. Gerber Dime + bic lighter make a great combination for a watch pocket when you're out on the town and don't want a full size MT drawing attention. I've been carrying the Dime as my "fancy clothes" or "sensitive area" multitool for like 10 years. Never had a complaint about it. I work in the trades so I usually carry a heavier LM, but on days when I'm in and out of union meetings or whatnot, I often watch pocket a Dime + Supertinker combo.
I have the Squirt E4 which they replaced with the ES4 then quit in 2019 the E4 was a wire stripper with a bit of needle nose pliers, knife... sad that they are quitting this line but things are CRAZY in the Cootie Age 🤪 have an old SOG Crossgrip, a mini power plier but it too has gone away
PS4 concept is cool and probably works for many people that just want a small package, but i prefer to keep my small pliers inside my swiss army knife instead - and have better scissors, better blades etc. Victorinox's knife pliers are in fact a bit underrated, specially for tasks that require more accuracy. If i needed to up my pliers' game i would either buy a Victorinox SwissTool or buy something like a Knipex to carry alongside my Swisschamp. P.S. Forgot to say, i think that discontinuing the PS4 is a big mistake nervertheless.
The first NextTool seems to have a really good tool set, but WHY is it so very bulky with those dumb scales ? I've got a Dime, the ergonomics are horrible but the tool set & blade are excellent 👍 If you find one for less than $20, buy it !
I use the blade more than any other tool personally. So while I don't agree with your recommendations it's an enjoyable video. I wish they would make a keychain multi tool that has an easily detachable blade for travel. And I agree with you. Discontinuing the juice and squirt doesn't make sense.
So I've been looking for the right multitool for my wife. She has a gerber drive and loves it. Plus it fits in her small pockets. But she still asks for my leatherman from time to time. That first tool looks a lot shorter than my wave and might just work with her pockets. She won't wear anything on her belt though
Still carrying a Juice S2. S2 sits between the Squirt and Skeletool in size though it has pliers, scissors, blade, etc. Unfortunately, it is another "fifth pocket" tool leatherman discontinued.
So I bought the squirt maybe eight years ago and the scissors broke so I warrantied them. Then last year the pliers broke, and I sent those back. Well, they didn’t have any more squirts so they sent me a Micra. I don’t find this comparable to the squirt. The whole point of me having that small keychain tool was for the pliers, knife, and screwdriver. To me those are the most important tools. at this point, I’m thinking that a pocket keychain tool is just not going to hold up to any real use. So now I’m just thinking about going for something that’s not necessarily humongous but will hold up to heavy use, which I will just keep in my car rather than on my person.
Unpopular comment yet this should concern more Americans that we are rapidly losing the market on American made products. Look at mini multi tool market; in terms of mini multi tools with pliers/scissors Leatherman was the last remaining domestic manufacturer left. This isn't a "conspiracy theory" or even my opinion; this is now factual. Wasn't always this way..
Your not wrong about your conclusion..but there is a different reason for why. MANY American companies are convinced of their own superiority, and become complacent. Leatherman has been both gunshy with innovation & really bad at pissing off their current constumers. The Garage...did nothing but piss ppl off, the $100 hoodies? An insult, the 4 new colors for the micra, 4 new colors for the raptor, insulting. This has more to do with Leatherman than the Chinese. They could produce better product and focus efforts in the wrong place.
@@maxlvledc Thank you for responding. Really enjoy your videos. In my personal opinion solely from an economic perspective we badly need these manufacturing jobs as these create sustainable jobs i.e. job multipliers. There is a certain pride knowing you helped support a hard working blue collar American or at least I feel that way for what it's worth. Yes I know Leatherman products aren't 100% American made and haven't been in decades; yet the same can be said about Gerber and certainly SOG and I have no idea if Bear and Son has met the same fate. As for the Leatherman Garage and this is merely my thoughts; this has been the most innovative process Leatherman has had since the P2/P4/K series. Multiple other companies have been doing limited edition runs/spirit runs such as Spyderco, Victorinox for years. People will always and forever find ways to complain about everything and anything. With severe inflation and the price of goods massively increasing as of three years ago I am not surprised the USA made hoddies weren't cheap. Far too little textiles are domestic and while not cheap; there is/was clearly a market for them. In regards to the new colors; yeah I agree with you there I am not sure why this was done frankly. We both agree Leatherman could sincerely put their efforts to better use and focus on their main demographic that actually buys their products. I.e. Blue collar working men and women that are the backbone of this country.
Took my beloved Style CS accidentally to the airport and was stopped by TSA. I tried to argue that the blade on it was smaller than the max size that TSA has on their website but the supervisor refused to budge. And now I gotta pay almost $100 for a new one on eBay.
My screwdriver-on-the-end-of-the-file tip snapped off. Contacted Gerber. Warranty process initiated, then they delayed because of supply chain issues. Now they no longer respond to emails. It’s been 2.5 years since I contacted them.
Great comparison 👍 I still can't believe they discontinued the Squirt...ugh 😢 just don't understand why. Luckily I have several different models but now they've moved to the collection drawer because..I.. don't..want..to lose or break them. Great for the after market resellers I guess. That Nextool company has some really interesting things. I've yet to pull the trigger and buy one but I might give that mini flagship a try just to see if they're worth their salt. I've always leaned towards Leatherman ( great warranty), Gerber's ( also decent warranty) and Victorinox. Never had the opportunity to use their warranty, haven't ever broken one 😮 might be a testament to their quality. Anyway I'm rambling just wanted to thank you on a great comparison video 👍 see you on the next one.
I have the squirt ps4 but for some reason I always grab the flagship mini or the classic sd. I carry the handymen and the spirit x for bigger tasks (with the deepcarryclip you forget about it right away, I love it). So the squirt has the right toolset but I hardly use it. I usually need the scissor maybe that's why 😄
I haven't met a flat Phillips that works. Somehow the angle of the bit is wrong and therefore it doesn't have the grip to exert enough torque to drive or remove any screw that would fit it.
New subscriber. Great content. Recently lost my SOG PowerLite Mini at TSA. (Didn't realize it had fallen deep into a crevice of my carry on). TSA was great and simply confiscated and I went on my way. Looking for a replacement that is TSA friendly.
Powerpint is rather disappointing in quality. Mediocre steel and the blade was bended when I received it. The tip of the pliers was chipped. Overall it feels flimsy, nothing more than a fidget.
Leatherman has been making alot of mistakes in the past few years. The tweezers on the style cs are complete garbage, proprietary bits on multiple multitools, discontinued models that people liked and/or were alot more useful than their "free" series....I'd be curious to see where this company stands in 5 or 10 years if they keep pissing their customers off.
Problem with the Nextool is the quality control. My files on every Nextool i own are pretty much non existent, so my ROXON M2 has in fact a better file than the Nextool ones and that is just sad. All in all the ROXON M2 wins IMO in every category against the Nextool except weight. But weight is important and so i still carry my modded mini Flagship on trousers that have no belt. XD Return is not an option, because of an online law that allows the seller to charge you with the shipping cost on goods that costs less than 40€.
Nice video, thanks. The manufacturer seem to neglect some sizes... This small one has still some coverage as you demonstrated but there is very little in the slightly higher dimension, that to me would be the most pocketable and useful, I mean about the "PowerPint" size. I actually have a no brand multitool that is perfect, except that quality is awful... It actually has very nice pliers, a decent Philips head that by looking at it seems a #1, and all the rest is pure crap, unfortunately. But the size is perfect as it is the boxy shape, looks very much like a Victorinox swiss tool scaled down by 30-35 % in all dimensions. It does not have a pocket clip, but if it did would carry pretty much like a civivi elementum, to give you an idea... I am really puzzled as to why nobody is doing a similar tool, would be perfect for everyday carry, big enough to house a usable blade and decent size tools, small enough to carry with no hassle. Even Leatherman abandoned the size by discontinuing the juice, and I don't get it. Do we all have to carry a PowerPint if we need a pocketable but reasonably usable multitool? Come on, manufacturers! Actually Roxon is trying to do something in the category, but not slim enough for my taste.
Hey Dom. :D Great stuff as always. You seem to post just what I like. I keep coming back to your videos to look up stuff. I especially like the edc scissors/screwdrivers/pliers. I've ordered lots of stuff that you've recommended. I still can't get stuff specific to USA stores, since I'm in Australia, but, oh well. When you showed the Milwaukee Fastback 6 in 1, you described it as "the best in its category". I'd have to agree. That driver is a really nice piggy-back tool on the knife. It makes me think of others like it, the best in their category. For example, I think Fiskars has nailed it with their keychain folding scissors. They are just excellent. Or the Fix It Sticks. Or the 100mm Cobra. Do you have any others to suggest? Must-have tools that simply cannot be beat in their specific categories?
It is a crime to the "I'll fix that" community that the Leatherman squirt ps4 was discontinued! It was and is BY FAR the best mini multitool and therefore the best edc multitool.
