Love the collection behind. How satisfying to have so many beautiful organisers. Would love to find a lyndhurst to add to mine.

Thank you for your kind words. The Lyndhurst model, in it's many sizes, was produced for a very long time, so there's a very good chance that you will find one.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It was really helpful to see your opinion on this particular model and confirm some of my thoughts. I found a similar one in a charity shop, wasn't cheap, and I must say I'm really disappointed with the quality of it. I believe we have the same definition for 'deluxe' 🙂 It has the same "Filofax Pocket Lyndhurst Deluxe Leather" stamp on the lower left inside cover, with the difference that it has four slots for the cards and the pen holder is sewn together with the zipper. Inside I found a transparent pocket, with 2002 stamped on the side, so I suppose it is from 2002. It was quite filthy and when I tried to clean it, I could easily rub off with my fingers the paint from the inside cover, just like in the one you're showing at 8:20. I thought it shouldn't be a problem, so got a set of leather preparer/deglazer, black paint and a finisher to try to make it look better. The problem was when I tried to clean it, even more of the paint came off, and I ended up scraping off all of it. The underneath layer looks similar to suede leather, but I really believe that is some sort of textile, by how it frays on the border underneath the pockets. I think I wasted good leather paint on the textile, because when I applied the paint it absorbed way too much, in seconds. I ended up doing the whole right inside cover and also the unstamped part from the left cover. Now the left side is leather-like with the stamp and painted textile underneath, towards the spine, and the right side is all textile-look. Probably only the exterior is genuine leather, but I didn't want to risk ruining that too. I also got some extra transparent pockets from them and had to send them back. Both types were made in China, and were from such a thin and flimsy plastic, almost like the cheapest A4 sleeves. For the top opening one, the cut was different than on the old one that came in the organizer and was not that comfortable to use. They were 2mm wider than the old ones, and just enough to fold because of the pen holder. The zip pockets were too narrow so the zipper was actually underneath the pages making it impossible to write unless moving it. At least the paper sizes are the same as the old ones, although I'm not sure about their quality either, they are more towards the printer paper, don't have the smoothness and shine like the old ones. Did you have any bad experiences with the pockets/separators or any accessories, the old ones being better?

Thank you for such interesting feedback. I've had the Lyndhurst model in every size, from mini to A4, and I haven't come across any problems. I wonder whether there may be an issue if the binder has been exposed to either damp, or perhaps frequent variations in temperature, such as those found in an attic. I don't use pockets, but I often come across them when buying vintage filofaxes. They can often be brittle, or discoloured, and I just throw them into my plastics recycling bin. I do have some A4 plastic folders/envelopes, but they are fairly new, and so I don't know how if they will deteriorate over time.

Thank you for your reply. It could be that the one I got was not kept in the optimal conditions, although on the outside it looks good and it didn't smell of mould or so. About the plastic pocket that I found in it, it was a bit yellow, which is normal after so many years. And probably it also loses its flexibility. Even so, it is easier to use, compared to the new ones I got. What surprised me was the quality of it, being very sturdy, about twice as thick as the new ones, and really well made (design and construction). The opening cut was in a nice curved slide, so easy to open, and more pleasant to the eye, compared to a simple round cut on the new design that was sticking to the back of the pocket making it impossible to open when flat, unless slightly bending it.

Funny, on my return to using a Filofax, probably around 2011, i bought a personal size Lyndhurst. I can't even remember where i got it from now??? But i thought it looked very business like and classic. I had it though before i entered the whole PLANNER-UNIVERSE and i had no idea that people owned lots of planners 😮 Wow, i was so naive 😂 yet so happy!! Anyway, the Lyndhurst is a beautiful,hard working planner. Thanks Neil - i have watched this video before but thought I'd leave a comment this time 📖

I've owned every size of Lyndhurst, from mini to A4, and I think they're very underrated. In fact, I'm using my A4 Lyndhurst every day at the moment, as so many pieces of info are in A4 size. I've had it for 20 year now, and I love it. No peeling leather so far.

Nice review again. Nice binder too. And even the Filofax pen looks interesting with that Rotring like grip section. Wish my Personal lyndhurst had smaller rings. But I’m glad to have it in the first place. Added a matching notebook. Mine does have leather problems on the interior. It does crack as there’s no wax , cream or oil to stop it. But hey it is a working tool. Keep the videos coming 😊

Great review. One of the few 11mm rings Filofax. If i remember correctly, none of the current Filofax minis have 11mm rings anymore.
@Flatability

Indeed. As I understand it, the minimum ring size is now 15mm.

Ah, don't get me started on online sellers packaging things up! I ordered a kind of Barbie doll a couple of years ago from an online seller (just someone clearing their junk, not a collector or artist) and it was put in a thin plastic carrier bag (no padding) and just taped around and delivered through my mailbox... It seemed fine, but wow that was something else. People putting boots in a plastic bag and slapping a label on it and calling it a day. People putting small toys loose in a plastic mail bag and stuff falling out during transit... Many people do a great job, though, but a couple of people don't seem to take it seriously and think that as long as the item is sent, it doesn't matter how. Or they don't realise how careless the parcel may be treated either by sorting machines or delivery staff (no shade to them as I know they are under a lot of time pressure). But the couple of Filofaxes I bought secondhand have all been packed up well, so that's good!

I agree. Buying on-line can certainly be a risk.

I have the personal size Lyndhurst and the pockets are almost as unusable as they are in the mini. The flatability is the same and I never knew why I did not like using it until you brought it up. As far as slipping a notebook into the pockets, I thought the same of my Franklin Quest pocket size and while I can put in a Field Notes notebook in the pockets, it is too wide and interferes with the rings. I guess I could cut it down so that does not happen but I am not to keen on cutting up those notebooks. Just as well, as I have a cloth cover that I use for my Field Notes notebooks that doebles as pen storage.

Interesting, this is on my kist to try as my edc / wallet but with the pocket issues it may be a none starter. Currently use a Mini Finsbury which handles wallet duties perfectly and when weighted with olenty of cards flatability is spot on too. That bekng said i obky write on the righthand side of any of my binders.

For me personally, a mini size filofax without the full depth wallet pocket is a no-no. But thanks for your review.

Not dead skin! 😮 I was expecting paper dust. 😂 Maybe it is pet dander since it made you sneeze.

Probably a mixture. Hopefully not too much dead skin 🙂

I've been on a hunt for a mini Filofax zip. If you ever put it up for sale please let me know! Hopefully you ship the states 😊
@Flatability
@Flatability 6 месяцев назад
Very sorry, but I only ship within the UK. Before I retired, I was an antiques dealer, shipping all over the world. But sadly, due to the restrictive VAT rules that came in 2021, I can no longer do that. The requirement to raise prices to cover the VAT, together with the extraordinary administrative workload, would be unviable. At least for the moment. If the regulations change, and we see a simplified system for small scale traders, or a unification of domestic and international VAT thresholds, I'll return to global shipping. Probably the best option would be to find someone with a UK address, who would be willing to ship to you, and whose annual turnover was under 10,000 Euros (the international export threshold is in Euros, despite being in the UK). Good luck.

Regulations ugh! Antiques very cool! It was worth a shot but understandable, thanks for responding! The hunt for a mini zip Filofax continues! 😊
