you should do one of these but for music, different types like classical, rap, r&b, warm chill pop, etc. expecially since rn your moving so you can sort threw your headphones while you put em away in the new setup you know.
@@Kingkhan0440 I just bought the shp9500 after the review. They're good. Missing just a little something for music for me. But for video games I've been enjoying them.
@@Kingkhan0440 as a previous owner of those i and the philips x2hr id say get the dt770 pro 80 ohm they are more comfortable and sound significantly better and imo have the best price to performace for a headphone or if you still wanna stay cheap get the one odio studio pro 50s as they are second tier less accurate but more fun to listen to and have great comfort aswell as being the absolute kings of bass
00:15 "Welcome to Z Reviews. If you've never been here before I'm here to bitch for a little while about things and stuff". Alright cool, this guy I can get into 01:34 "And the problem with an RGB gaming headset is A: it's got an LED in it which usually means it came from the manufacturer of your keyboard, and B: the manufacturer of your keyboard shouldn't be making fucking audio equipment" Classic
@@adamszuszkiewicz1709 I am back from my pilgrimage. For an initial set up with breaking the bank I got: M40x (had to closed since I play at night while my gf sleeps) with some aftermarket pads (worried my dog will eat those real leather ones), mod mic 5 and the syba sonic dac/amp. I also returned my bose speakers and set up a 2.1 with some micca bookshelf speakers, a desktop amp from fosi and a HUGE RCA sub I found a craigs list. I set them up in parallel and the sound is amazing. The m40x sounds wayyyy better than the razer headset, I am hearing efx in games i never even noticed before.Thank you, Z.
In reality, most products advertised as "gamer" are usually overpriced. I regret buying an expensive chair when I could have just as easily gone to IKEA and get one that's 1/4th of the price and would probably suit my needs just as good.
@@THEMATT222 someone did press it soo you are welcome to start liki g again or hint down the 70th liker and steal his phone to unlike this comment Your choice
Thanks Z for this review, Gamers, setup your audio exactly to Z's design, you won't regret it. Over a decade of PC building Myself for gaming, never has my system sounded this good, it's amazing. Get the DAC/AMP as far away from you PC as possible, it really makes a difference.
You can buy them everywhere though, so it's not a problem........yet. In the future it's gonna be a headache finding them though. Sometimes you can catch deals on the SHP9500 NON "S" version too barely any difference besides the cord
If you look for those cans on ebay, people ask +100$ for them. Seeing that, i start looking for them on others plantforms and didn't saw anything, beside AliExpress. But a question to everyone, can you trust AliExpress???
Thx for the praise Z Reviews! Regards, Squad audio guy. Not too easy with maintaining the dynamic range when so much different audio sources comes into play. But I had a vision before the project started and wanted Squad to be "one of the" games that actually would force the players to crank up their main volume to actually feel the loud sounds and still be able to hear sounds like foley sounds, ambient sounds etc. So to not break or distort loud sounds and to preserve the quality with low frewq sounds like massive explosions etc. I hade to make a serious balance and decrease silenced sounds, so when you crank up your main volume you'll hear the gunfire and explosions very loud. Most games use an even balance, to maybe not damaging peoples ears, but then it sounds very lame if gunfire is as loud as footstep sounds. You never get the feel of being in a serious battle were you need to stay cautious because of how the sounds affect your brain. Thx again!
The only games I play are Minesweeper and Spider Solitaire, but superdedicated audio guys - even for games - will always have my endless appreciation. Keep it up!
Thanks for everything. The sounds are just amazing. The G3 for example sounded just like the one i had to carry, almost a bit to realistic, i swear it was almost like i could smell it. Started playing it seriously arround mid V11 and the first serious engagement i ended up in the middle of with the AA-gun and all just made me cold sweat, tremble, gave me light chest pains and for a moment overwelmed my mind. I know it sounds bad, and it kind of was, but in a good way. (hard to explain i guess) The m4 from a shooter perspective sounds a bit off post V12 imo.
I watched this video and within a week, I had my Astros, my Turtle Beaches, and my Rigs up for sale on eBay. This shit changed my life. I bought some legit headphones and a good amp and gaming will never be the same for me.
heres my setup: headphones=monolith m1060,dac=topping dx3pro,,mic=antlion boom pro,,digital amp=s.m.s.l 160wx2,,bookshelf speakers-jamo s 803....i have to say those jamo's blew my mind, just blew it away! until i did the mod on the m1060's i wasnt impressed but once i removed those filter things i was again blown away! so far im loving this setup and am almost ready to move on to even better shiz! thanks Zeos!!!
Is there an updated version of this for like 2020-2021, I know he does like redux videos going over past videos but idk if he has for this. It would be really cool if he did!!!
@@putrid2529 he’s not an asshole it’s just a fact that they’re better, he didn’t say a budget or for the regular consumer he said the best were 58x and he was incorrect
- I play bf1 on my LCD4’s. However the only headphones that should be used for gaming are the Philips x2! Headsets designed by Astro, Logitech, Corsair, SteelSeries (your favorite keyboard, mouse, controller manufacturer ) are pure unadulterated garbage. When I use my Philips x2 people tell me I am hacking because I can hear their footsteps before they come around the corner
Love them for gaming more than any other category of audio.... Binaural- incredibly good, music- pretty damn good, movies- never gonna complain, but for gaming... just unreal
Love the videos. Very informative. Would you say a common setup for streamers or gamers should look like this: -DAC/Amp for audio output -XLR interface for desk mic input -A decent pair of 3.5mm headphones, open or closed back -A decent xlr mic
I bought the original 9500 headphones from newegg for $60 at the time. Amazon was selling them for about $75. I'm so glad I bought them before they got discontinued. They sound amazing and are super comfy. I game for many hours and using the V-Moda Boom Pro mic and it works amazingly well with these cans. If you get a chance to buy the 9500 or the S version, do it!!! No questions asked. You cant get anything better that's open back at the price point under $100.
Shane White if you use directly from your source you will have just little soundstage, and the imaging becomes more precise....BUUUUUT, an amplifier is a must have... the real cost of this headphones is $300 (any bravo ocean, magni or A30) and is worth it, here is when imaging shines and the precise bass make it better.
Just stumbled upon this video - immediate subscription. Straight talk and to the point along with a detailed explanation on what to expect from different headphones... What more could you ask for? Thank you for this man.
Was sent this because I had a logitech headset almost blow out my hearing out of nowhere. Going to return it since it should still be covered and get myself something that won't permanently deafen me.
dude, i'm so glad i found your channel!! i love gaming, i'm trying to learn more about audio gears and shit (i took a music production class, but it mostly focused on mics and mixing lol), and i love the monogatari series xD (it's my favorite anime). the humor in this video was great, and the info was well presented. new sub from me :)
I’ve been thinking about getting a pair of hd58x’s, would you guys recommend it? For gaming? I into gaming and mostly rainbow six, and I’ve been looking for a good pair for a while now. And for the price!
BigAceIII absolutely they are great for gaming and music, I have trouble deciding which I like to game in more my m1060s or the 58x. (It’s probably the 58x for serious gaming like rainbow six)
I’ve probably shared this video about 100 times between friends and people on reddit. If you’re seeing this video for the first time trying to learn about PC audio... listen to this guy. He knows what he’s talking about.
Sadly Astros are probably the best sounding headphones marketed as "gaming" headphones too. One time I heard Turtle Beach headphones after everyone was telling me how they were the best thing ever and I thought something was wrong with them because of how bad they sounded. Been rocking the Samson SR950 reference headphones for gaming for years now and they blow any gaming set I've ever heard out of the water. They go for as low as $45 sometimes too.
I've been in the market for a new pair of "gaming" headphones and in doing my research I came across this and after watching this video for a week on and off and about 10+ fricken times I broke down and bought the M40X's with the ZMF cow hide pads and replacement wire (along with a case to protect my new babies) Thanks for saving me from buying some RGB bullshit headphones some keyboard company makes Zeos. New sub for life!
I bought 58x's and a schiit stack because of you Z. Thank you for the awakening. Real speakers will be next year when im finished ripping apart the basement.
I also bought a schiit stack because of z. Using HD598's right now but would like the HD600 eventually. Also have two jbl 305s and the 10" jbl sub to match.
I actually started with the shp9500s due to Z's bad influence. Now I'm kicking it with a pair of he560s and th-x00 ebs. They sound so good I barely even notice the fact that I now live in a cardboard box.
@ZReviews you def are shadowbanned, took me good while to find this video! (Btw thank you for this video, you literally helped me found my favorite headphones of 3 years and counting. I seriously came back just to comment you this!)
Great vid. Looked it up after my headphones started dying. Ordered Senn's 660s and scarlett solo gen3 for my gaming music and movies. Subbed and liked and your my guide regarding any "sound" questions! Thanks mate! Cheers from Croatia!
ZEOS you are a god! all my decision are all based from your videos and it helped me save a ton of money. PLEASE MAKE A 2021 UPDATE VERSION OF THIS TOPIC. I need a guide for my new gaming rig and i need serious help from gaming dacs to gaming/audio headpones PLEASE HELP MEEE!!
OH MY GOD are you interesting to listen to, you could talk about any boring ass shit and I'd still be here glued to the audio frequencies.. Do some podcast, voice over or voice acting shit man.. Hell even do some ASMR shit talking about whatever. DAMN does your experience TRUMP these 'audiophiles' of today who read a little on reddit and self qualify. LOVE you bro.
@4:16... "You get sold a line of dialogue from companies who want to sell you $5 headphones for $200. And it's like, 'Well, if you wanna win, you gotta obviously have this... gaming headset'" Gaming headset companies' marketing teams are the real MVPs
The Battlefield games have amazing audio design. Great dynamic range and realistic localizing of sources in the xy plane. However, not so much in z-plane. Overwatch is really good too. Right now I'm using a HD600 and an external headphone amp.
02:21 I need my glowing "Gamer" keyboard and mouse to look cool and I like to see it. I never see my headset. No-one looks at my headset when I'm playing games. So it doesn't need the "Gaimyn ARE GEE BEE"
I liked and subbed as soon as you said "the maker of your keyboard shouldn't be making fucking audio equipment". Love it man. Great vids and reviews. I'm a die hard gamer and came here searching for a new headset.
Just replaced my HyperX Flight gaming headset with a nice pair of Beyerdynamic 770 DT Pro 250 Ohm paired with Creative SoundblasterX G6 (AMP+DAC) and I absolutely love it. The difference in audio is out of this world. Never going back to a gaming headset ever again.
So, @ZReviews, can I ask for a recommendation? I need closed back cause that's what I'm used to. I'm a big "casual" gamer, dark souls, total war, doom, halo etc etc. But I also super into hardcore games, cause i love playing valorant and Seige. I'm a casual who still wants hi fidelity, I feel like being a "casual gamer" means you have lower standards; i still want really hi fi, i do not have low standards. I'm a big big music guy, I love my music. Everything except country, so lots of bass is good But I'm also a very big gamer, not always the most competitive stuff, but I do play those as well (Valorant and R6 Seige). I just bought, and then returned cause it sucks, a Corsair Void Elite Wireless headset with 7.1 surround. Was super comfy for a while but it ended up being way too heavy on my head and hurt after a while. Moreover, there was a faint fuzzing I noticed that happened during any game I played. I mainly just like things to 1:sound great, and 2: be comfortable (particularly for glasses wearers). I was looking for a built in mic headset that surpasses my Blue Snowball, but unfortunately the mic quality of the Void was sub par. I realize now that headsets are fucking dumb, and that the real money is in owning a quality pair of headphones with a standup mic to get your voice cause attachable mics arent that good (except for the one you attached to the Phillip's, my buddy has that mic and hes good most the time but it also has some shitty inconsistencies in sound when I hear him, he'll crackle or be distant). So what would you recommend cause I honestly cannot narrow it down cause theres too many options. What do you think of Audio Technicas or Marshall headphones? I saw a couple pairs yesterday running 250+ dollars here in Canada, but I feel like those are actually for studio musicians, which isnt really what I need. I just need really hi fi sound with music and gaming, and good imaging too if it has it, not like the most competitive sound, just good sound in general. Sound stage I guess. But I like to have both so that I can play FPS' too. Also, do I really need to plug it into that interface little box thing? I also have no fcking idea what my sound card is, and I dont know why you said that one rectangle would destroy my sound card, is that something I have to take into account? Cause I'm also looking for wireless headphones preferably cause fuck wires. Also 35:20 WHY ARE THEY SO GOOD?? Alright, just finished the video. No more wireless. I just hated pushing my previous headphone wires off of me, and I liked standing up, walking around my house talking on discord. But the sound seems to be worse as you said. That said though, what do you think on "gaming headsets" not made by keyboard companies? It seems like every streamer is wearing a pair of Hyper X or Logitech headphones. I've heard logitech is garbage, but what about the Hyper X Clouds everyone is wearing?
I have hd 800 s Sony mdr1r akg 550 Bayer dynamics custom one pro and audiotechnica m50x and one of friend brought some sennheiser gamer one and let me tell you I tested all on gaming while is does sound better and wide Soundstage but nothing was closed to what a pair of razer kraken does in term how laud and clear the footstep was witch in competive shooter is a lot more important
My experience, having owned the following: Sennheiser PC160, Steelseries Siberia V2, Siberia neckband, Steelseries 5hV2, Razer Orca (All had terrible cables, this shit actually made me quit gaming headphones alltogether), purchasing a shure 440 as my entry was like a revelation in positional audio compared to every gaming headphones I've ever used, FOR competitive gaming.
Once you go true audiophile level headphones for games, you cant go back. once you hear an A10 Warthog doing a strafe with truly nice headphones... as Archer says: "STOP! I CAN ONLY GET SO ERECT!" I had a $150 Logitech "Gamer Headset", got some Sennheiser $200 cans... Its as big of a difference in change as going from HDD to SSD. it really is night and day. You go from "that gunfire is coming from somewhere on my front right", to "sounds like a short barreled rifle, about 40 degrees to the right, about 100m away, from above?" an entry level audiophile set of headphones will completely change your level of situational awareness in games. You also gain a new appreciation for the music in games too. you dont even need to spend all that much, spend as much on the proper headphones that you would have spent on the GAMER headset, and you are generally golden. You tend to learn, anything that has the GAMER word attached to it, often is overpriced, and not the best option if you care about PERFORMANCE, especially for the price.
I usually recommend popular budget aduiophile equipment such as KZ and almost any decent DAC with an optical in to gamers wanting an upgrade usually people who think they need to spend 200-400 dollars or more on a "gaming headset" can be more than satisfied with a 60-70$ budget IEM and a DAC that's alittle over 100$
