Bhishma's literal translation is "intense" For me I myself cried uncontrollably during that episode and considered him like my Grandpa, ( I never had Grandpa ) His devotion was unparalleled
It doesnt mean intense it mean terrible! Bhismas real name was devrath. And because of his terrible oath(bhisma pratigya) he was called Bhishma! The oath was a great thing Devrath did but that same oath became one of the reason for the huge war as well!!
Bhishma pitamah also Recited Vishnu Sahasranama to Yudhisthir when he was lying bed of arrows in front of God Krishna himself. Bhagwad Geeta and Vishnu Sahasranama two of the most sacred verses were told in Mahabharat.🙏🌺
I had been to Benaras to wash away the bones of my deceased father in law in river Ganga and perform Shradha ritual for the peace of the departed soul , at the time of performing the puja at the bank of river Ganga the priest asked me to make offering for the soul of Bhishma Pithamah as well ....I questioned why ?? He said since Bhishma did not have any children of his own it becomes the duty of every Hindu to offer respect and make offerings to Bhishma while performing Shradha karma ....making offering to Bhishma made me feel good and proud of my history and religion ....Jai Sri Ram 🙏

Of course, this is also the setting for the ‘Thousand Names of Vishnu’ the ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ Here Bheeshma, son of Ganga, purity is the relater. Yudhistira, Dharma the listener, Veda Vyasa, is the scribe who notes everything down and Shri Krishna, the Lord himself, the witness of the event in whose presence this incidence occurs. Hi Sabine, I heard Swami mukunadanand say about the difference between mind and intellect. Mind has desires and is constantly occupied with thoughts around it. Intellect is what helps us distinguish between a desire being right or wrong.
The grains & blood drained etc ....there is a saying in India " jaisa khaogey anna waisa hoga mann " ...which means the kind of grains you eat shall form the temperament of your mind..... So great insistance is laid on the kind of grains you eat in India , the kind of person who cultivates it , the person from whom it is procured etc.
One of the main character for cause of Mahabharat war! And teaches us how not to be! and what not to do. Teaches us the importance of doing the Karma without thinking of the fruit. He didnt do that and let to the huge war.
When Duryodhan provoked by Shakuni doubted the old and aged Bheeshma's capability as an army general, Bheeshma felt the insult as a warrior kshatriya and vowed that on the following day of the battle he will kill many more soldiers in one day than what Arjun had killed so far in the war so far and eventually confront Arjun one on one. Bheeshma was so menacing on the following day in the battlefield that eventually Lord Krishna had to break his oath to kill Bheeshma. Thats the greatness of Bheeshma, the disciple of Lord Parshuram.

As far as the emotional rollercoaster ride w.r.t Mahabharat, you are not alone. We all are there with you. Thats the beauty of Mahabharat. The Indian streets were almost empty when these episodes were aired for the first time. I am not exaggerating here. When the Lord speaks, India listens :) Bheeshma, a warrior who can make the lord break his vow on the battlefield is not an average warrior. Thats exactly the calibre of Bheeshmas greatness and also his greatest achievement as a warrior Kshatriya. As for Draupadi's laughter goes, you can see this as a confession of Bheeshma before his last breath. Again thanks to Lord Krishna for giving Bheeshma the opportunity to confess in front of Draupadi before his soul departs. Bheeshma was gracious enough to admit to the fact that his intellect was clouded by ethics and ideals when the Draupadi was insulted in the court room. Again a sign of being a great human.
It is true that whatever you eat effects you thoughts that is why meats and poultry is avoided for those who want to attain krishna, moreover, the grains you eat should be from a place of dharma. Water and grains of adharmaic people often leads to adharmic thoughts and strays us away from krishna.

Ayushmaan Bhava means "Long Live". People generally Sages use to give this Blessing to very kind and Honest person who helps them without any reason. But when Blessings are given it costs their goods (In Hindi Punya) and that's how blessings works.

It's always so so so good when u touch back on Mahabharata, I confess i don't manage to see all that you do but I surely watch everything u do relating to Mahabharata. It's our history, and i was familiar with it since my childhood, but I really understood deeper and more profound levels of it from my mind thirties, and i still dwell in it realising that there are even deeper meanings and messages in Mahabharata. Sabina crying at mention or new knowledge of shree Bheeshma or shree krishna is due to the devotion, the connection, the agreement and synchronism of soil with them. I do not take her tears as amusement, and neither should anyone, the tears drop out whenever someone prays or connects or feels with absolute purity. Jai shree Ram, Jai shree krishna.

What Bhishma told about Anna(grain) is true, this knowledge of Mahabharata is descend to common people as in a Hindi saying (Jaisa khaye Anna, waisa bane Mann- जैसा खाए अन्न वैसा बने मन). Thats why Anna shuddhata is very common in Sanatani family and not everyone is allowed in the kitchen, reason is the same. But now a day on the shadow of Modernity we laugh on secrets of such basic principles, which were once followed in every household of sanatanis. Mentality of Cook is very important in our sanatan culture but nowadays nobody cares that's why such a fall of the society.

There are few things thats beyond our understanding… like was enjoying the story and charecter but she was shocked on how a person can spend 6 months on bed of arrow, well bhishama have a power to live as long as he wants or only he chooses when he dies…

Bhisma is great but like the rest of us, he also made mistakes...and the biggest one was watching and not helping draupadi during the gamble. You brake promises to protect truth, you don't hold onto promises to uphold untruth. The only true great hero of Mahabharat was Shri Krishna.

Krishna is the mastermind for everything including the gambling if I were right. Great person like Bhishma can do mistake that time, for sure everything got purpose the incident happened on that day. Sri Krishna made that happen to teach us lesson. Mahabharat is a life lesson for everyone. All character in Mahabharat did mistakes and Krishna Paramathma is the real author for this.
Lord Krishna also warned n gave a hint to Yudhister that life is not a gambling game before leaving for dwarka as he knew that it was going to happen...also he met Bhishm pitamah n dronacharya n gave them a choice to fight for dharma or adharma but they were tied with their vows taken..
