Hello beautiful! 😍 Make sure to check out my newest video on Sogang University/KLEC where I answer some of your questions from this video (accommodation, working while studying, making Korean friends, etc.)! ✨ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zwow4Ytr7Qg.html&ab_channel=hana_ppoi
Hi! I applied and I start in 2 weeks!! currently doing my self-quarantine. I am so excited and super scared I hope it will be a wonderful year. Thank you for all this information is was so helpful :)) xxxx
@@annacorrewyn5656 Hey! Omg I'm so excited for you!!!! I hope the self-quarantine is going well? 💕 You're so welcome and thank you so much for watching! I'm always so happy to hear it was useful 😘 The only obstacle you'll have is not being able to drink, since the legal drinking age in Korea is 19, but if you're not too fussed about that then you're going to have an amazing time! 😍 Do you know what level you're going to do? 😊
Hey! I’m going in the spring semester next year. Is there any advice you could give me on some of your planning that you’ve done. Is there any way I can contact you? I’m 18 if you have Instagram my insta is jacobw_s
hana_ppoi Hi!! just finished my self-quarantine and I'm settled in my apartement in Mapo-gu. Tomorow is my first class (sadly online) but I'm verry excited! I'm doing de KGP language program at sogang.
Sad part is it's still cheaper to do all 6 levels at KLEC than to do a year at uni in the UK.... So it seems like a lot of money but when you think how much it cost us to do 4 years here... it's not so bad x
Hiii! I’m watching this vid a little late haha but just wanted to thank uuuu, you’re one of the very few people that talked about the KAP200 program ! ❤️ I feel so relieved to have an opinion, thank you so much!
Oh, how exciting! 😍 I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine! The exams are tough but~ they don't put anything on the exams that they haven't taught in class (they're not mean like that ahaha) so as long as you study hard and pay attention you'll do great! 💕 Which level are you hoping to go into? :D
@@hanappoi I will probably end up in Level 1. Level 2 might be to ambitious for me. I guess I will find out from the level test. I'm excited so hopefully I get accepted for Fall.
@@monicaraya1386 When I first started I really wanted to go into level 3 but I ended up being placed in level 2, which I actually think turned out for the best! Even though I knew a few of the topics/grammar structures we covered in level 2, I was able to consolidate my knowledge and make sure I didn't have any gaps. I think if I'd actually gone straight into level 3 I wouldn't have been as comfortable and my basic knowledge might have been a lot shakier! 😅 So I'm sure that level 1 or level 2 will be great and you'll enjoy them both! 💖
also btw I love how informational your video was!! also what do you hope to gain with knowing the Korean language do you hope to get a job that revolves around it or Korea?
Aw thank you so much! I'm so happy to hear it was useful! 💖 That's a very good question ahahaha I think I'm approaching my mid-life crisis because omg what am I gonna do with my life???? 😂 But honestly I would love to have a career that centred around Korea (see what I did there? 😉😅), be it in tourism, teaching or something else! How about you??? 💕
Amazing video with great information! Thank you Hana! i am curious how long does it take to finish one level? Is it possible to finish it in one semester (the 10 weeks)? Thanks in advance, Pav
Hey girl! One of the best reviews for Korean Language Programs! So useful and to the point. No drama and pure information! Thank you. I have some questions for you. Kindly share your thoughts. I am really keen on moving to Korea for work and wanted to learn Korean properly in order to facilitate a job there. 1. Could you add some information to the job situation there? If I go to KLEC - Can I simultaneously be looking for jobs and sponsorships for a work visa? 2. Can we work part-time there while we are on a student visa? 3. Can we extend our visa for future terms from Korea itself? 4. Also, is each term equal to one level? Meaning we need to pay that tuition fee for 6 terms each? 5. Do we have to do these back to back or we can come back and later finish more terms? Cause there is also an option to take a tourist visa for just one term correct? Thank you very much in advance.
Omg thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear it was useful! 💖 Let me try and answer your questions! 1. I think that depending on your visa you should be able to get a job/search for jobs. I was on a D-2 visa because attending the KLEC was part of my university program back in the UK and I never got a part-time job but I know other students who did. I did make connections through the students and through meeting people out and about that helped me get a job when I went back on a working holiday visa, though. Because it's only 4 hours a day you have lots of free time to be either working or having fun sipping iced americanos (I definitely did the latter hehe). 2. Oh. I think I answered your second question above ahaha. Yes, you can - although I'm not sure about the hours. I think it could be something like max. 20 hours a week. 3. Yup, this is definitely possible. It just means you'll have to do a "visa run" - ie. leaving and re-entering Korea on your new visa. A lot of people go to Japan for the weekend to do this! 4. That's correct! Each term of 10 weeks equates to 1 level. 5. It's completely up to you! ^^ I only did all three in a row since, like I mentioned, it was part of my uni program. My dream is to go back and finish level 6 and graduate hehehehe but who knows when that will be... sigh 😅 I hope these answers are helpful! Please let me know if there's something you'd like me to clarify or if you have any other questions! 💖
@@hanappoi You are so kind to answer all my questions, that too, so elaborately! I have just a few follow up questions - 1. Does that mean that I need to pay the amount mentioned on the website for the course 6 times if I want to do all 6 levels?! Or is it per semester which is 2 levels each and I have to pay that amount 3 times if I am doing all 6 levels? The info is super confusing on the website. 2. Which time of the year do you recommend the most to begin the course which is also a good time for job hunting and visa sponsorships? Or are companies usually hiring around the year? 3. I think I will need a D4 visa as I am from India. Did you happen to meet any Indians while on this course? 4. What's a working holiday visa?! Interesting... Thank you! 💜
@@dhivyakalanithy You're very welcome! 😊💕 1. The way I understand it is that you have to pay that amount for each level so unfortunately - six times... 😪 (It is a very confusing website, isn't it!? 😅) 2. Right off the bat I would recommend spring or autumn because those are just the best times in Korea in general - although if you're from India you might not be fazed by the heat like I was! I'm not totally sure about hiring times though... I think it might depend on what industry you're looking to go into. 3. I didn't! I met a girl called India but not any Indians 😅 4. A working holiday visa is a visa that allows you to work in Korea but only for a specific number of hours/in specific sectors. You couldn't be a teacher on a working holiday visa. The idea is being able to work legally on holiday to supplement/support your travels! It's a really wonderful visa but I'm not sure which countries have this agreement with Korea - you might have to check specifically for India. I hope this is helpful! Sorry I can't give you more specific info for job hunting! Again, let me know if you have any more questions~~~~ 💕 I'm so excited to think you'll be in Korea! I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time! 💖
All your answers are so clear and helpful. Thank you for taking the time out. 💜 Yeah, heat isn't an issue for me cause I have been surviving in Dubai at 40-50+ degrees dessert summer temperatures! 🤣 Working visa sounds like a dream visa, especially cause I love to travel! I doubt they have such agreements with India. No worries about the job info, I'll try to research more. I really hope one day I get to reply to this thread to you from Korea! I'm learning Korean on my own for the time being hoping to be good enough to skip a couple of levels and save some time and money too for KLEC! Catch you there some day in the future. Stay safe! PS: I have lived in UK very briefly for a few months as my sister is settled there. Manchester and Coventry. Visited London, Cardiff and Scotland on some short weekend trips too. :) 🥰
@@dhivyakalanithy Omg I would melt and die! 😂 Ah yes!!!! That would make me so happy to hear from you in Korea! I'm planning to head back there soon so maybe one day we'll both be replying from Korea - how cool would that be??? :D In the meantime, please stay safe too 😘 Ooooh what level would you hope to go into? Self-studying is tough, I don't have the self discipline to do it well 😅 That's so funny - I live near Manchester! But it seems you've visited more places in the UK than I have ahahaha where was your favourite? 💕 (Taking recommendations for when we can travel again lol)
Hi! Excellent Video. I am planning on going for march 2021! Can I ask what was the difference between the KAP200 and KGP200? Also, Where did you stay for 1 year as that is something I am struggling with? What level did you start with? x
Hi! Aw thank you~ I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it! 🤗 KGP200 is morning classes (9am~1pm) while KAP200 is afternoon classes (1.30pm~5.30pm). They both consist of 200 hours but for some reason KGP200 is slightly more expensive (like 40,000 krw more but Idk why 😅). I found a really nice flat through Airbnb! I ended up messaging the lady who was renting it out that I needed a place for a whole year and so we ended up signing a contract outside of Airbnb. It can be a great place to look so maybe try messaging a few places you like the look of because I'm sure a lot of hosts would LOVE to have a year long guest! I started with level 2! Even though I really wanted to be placed in level 3 I'm glad I did level 2 because it helped me feel confident that I had a great foundation~ 💁♀️ I hope this is helpful???? Please let me know if you have any more questions or you'd like clarification on anything! 💕
@@hanappoi Hi! Thank you for your response! So I am going from Birmingham, Uk so I was wondering money wise did it work out better to have a year-long airbnb compared to putting down a deposit and signing a year contract? Was there a deposit for you as 'it was outside Airbnb contract?' Brilliant so there is no actual content difference between the 2 even though one is general and the other academic and KGP is actually cheaper, so even though i may do postgraduate later it wont matter which class i take? Apologies for the million questions x
@@serpentinefireball You're so welcome! I love hearing that people are going to Seoul/the KLEC~ I'm sure you're gonna have such a wonderful time! 💕 For me, I wouldn't have been able to afford a deposit since they usually range from £3000+ (if you're super lucky lol) anywhere up to like £15,000. So Airbnb was the much better option for me and then luckily the lady I rented from was fine with me not paying a deposit even when we had a contract outside of Airbnb. If you have money saved it might be good to look into putting down a deposit (I would recommend checking out housing apps like 직방 (zigbang) and 다방 (dabang) if you haven't already since then you could get a good idea of the prices/deposit vs. monthly rent) ^^ I'm pretty sure they're the same????? Although I would double check just in case! (I don't wanna lead you astray! 😅) Omg don't apologise~~~ I really hope this is helpful! 💕
@@hanappoi Thank you! I hope so too but I'm not sure due to the pandemic status at the moment in England. Wonderful I will look on those for sure. So did you reach Korea and then negotiate with the Airbnb Lady or was it while you were home? TIA
@@serpentinefireball Hi! Sorry for the late response! 😭 I made sure everything was arranged and signed before going (I'm a planner lol and I like everything to be sorted out asap etc. otherwise it makes me anxious ahahaha) but! You could also negotiate things when you get there since thanks to Airbnb there will always be somewhere you can stay! But~ personally I think if it's possible it's better to sort things out before going! 😊
I'm not too sure whether they're free or not but I'm pretty sure they're in the evening (I think they started around 6pm which is great if you take the afternoon KLEC classes which finish at 5.30pm!) I'm so sorry I can't give you more precise info since I didn't actually take the TOPIK prep classes D: Aw thank you so much for watching! 💖
Hey Hana~ I just found your video looking for info about the KLEC at Sogang, as I will be starting level 4 next week (and documenting what it's like from level 4 onwards on my own channel - I am also a K-influencer actually ^^). Can I ask, how were you able to take extra classes on K-lit and K-films? I saw that the KLEC offers topik/hanja/kpop song classes but not like yours, what that part of the KLEC or outside of it? Cheers :)
Hi, can you maybe help me with this info - is one level one semester, so level 3 is 1 semester, level 4 one semester and so on? Also - how did you get into level 4? I'm also aiming for it for spring semester but I'm super anxious I will place at 3 and I've already done 3A and 3B at Winter Korean....
@@JK-he1tl one level takes 10 weeks in total, then there is 1-2 weeks break and then another 10 weeks etc... I got placed into level 4 at the placement test. They did ask me which level I thought about going in... So if you say 4 and nothing in your placement test shows that you are super under that level it should work out! Also I have a whole serie of videos coming soon on my channel about Sogang, from the practical things at school to study tips etc so you can subscribe to my channel if you want to be sure to not miss them ;) I hope this was helpful! Fighting!! :)
Hi! I was wondering how much the TOTAL fee was for you to study at the KLEC sogang program? 1790000KRW program fee and 60,000KRW application fee? Someone is telling me there are more fees the uni charges you that they don't mention on the website including student insurance and a motorisation fee and more. Could you confirm plzz?
Hi! That's true, unfortunately the dorms are only for students who are enrolled in the university itself. I actually found a flat through Airbnb with a lady who was lovely enough to rent it to me for the entire year, so I recommend checking Airbnb and messaging the hosts of places you like to see how long they could rent it to you/if they could give you a discount etc. I would also recommend looking at flat shares on Craigslist - of course, be careful but Craigslist does have a lot of legit listings and is slightly less dodgy than in the UK/US. I actually found a really great flat share through Craigslist when I was there in 2019! I hope this is helpful! ❤️
As far as I understand, evening classes are meant for people who are already in Korea...KLEC won't be able to help you provide documents for visa if applying for evening classes. Salute from Yonsei University, Seoul
Hi! 😍 It's usually pretty soon after the end of lessons! If I remember correctly, the term is 10 weeks long and the tests are in the last week of the term! 🤗
As far as I'm aware, you only receive a diploma if you finish all 6 terms/complete level 6. However, each level corresponds to a TOPIK level so you could take the equivalent TOPIK level exam if you'd like to get a certificate!
Thank you for this video, I want to do this program for next session in September, and I wonder what is the best program ... Sogang university doesn't provide dormitory right?
You're so welcome - thank you for watching! 😘 Oh, how exciting! I really recommend their program~~~ If you're enrolled as a full time student then you can stay in their dormitory (it's called Gonzaga Hall)! But I don't think it's available for KLEC students 😭 Are you planning to attend as a full time student or just the KLEC? ^^
@@hanappoi For KLEC ! I saw so many reviews, and it seems that Sogang is very focus on communication, and I think that it's so useful to survive lmao .. did you have an apartment ?
@@shanbinjenna Yesssss it really helped me survive in Korea ahahaha 😂 I did! I got an apartment near Daeheung station which is one of two stations that are close to Sogang~ I actually found it through Airbnb so if you're looking to get an apartment I recommend looking on there! 💕
hi I'm doing the KLEC program next year after high school but I was wonder how you were able to afford going to this school did you take out a loan? and how were you able to pay for your daily expenses?
Hi! Oh I'm so excited for you! 😍 Since it was part of my university course the tuition fees were covered by my UK student loan (I saw the full figure I have to pay back and it was terrifying lol) I also lived mostly on my savings and student loan. I know a few other people who got part-time work though, such as working in a restaurant or cafe!
Hello i have an question, i hope you can answer. I can stay in korea 90 days without visa. Do i need to take D4 visa anyway? As i understand only the students with D4 visa should show them the bank statement over 10,000$. For me it would be easier to go if i wont need to show that bank thing and only by saving money i need.
1. For those who do NOT need to obtain a student visa(D-4-1) : Only required documents (Please refer the above) 2. For those who wish to obtain a student visa(D-4-1) : Over two semesters should be registered. Bank statement issued at a bank within 30 days under applicant’s name and with a balance of over 10,000 USD Here is what they wrote in their website. Btw one more thing i wonder, is it a good university to study Korean? Some students are complaining about some universities that doing many exams. I dont want to feel as im preparing for a very important exam, just wanna learn the language by enjoying, knowing culture and travelling. Would it be a good choice? 🤓
@@alyally5798 Hi! Thank you so much for watching! 💖 I hope I can help with your questions~ As I understand it, you don't need a student visa to study in Korea. You can just visa hop at the end of each semester or whenever you need to. However! At the moment due to Covid-19 the Korean government has suspended the tourist visas 😞 So it seems you'd either have to apply for a D-4 visa or wait until it's possible to travel to Korea on a tourist visa again. I don't remember how much I had to have in my bank account when I applied but I definitely didn't have that much money lol so my friends and family helped me out by sending me money for the visa process and then I gave it back to them! 😅 It is a crazy amount of money imo so gotta find creative ways to get around it lol In terms of the KLEC - I think it was AMAZING! 😍 The heavy emphasis on speech/conversation is so important and useful. In terms of exams, there are midterms and finals per term. However, you're so well prepared for them by the teachers in class that they don't feel overwhelming. The main focus does seem to be helping you gain a working knowledge of Korean that you can use to live/work comfortably in Korean in Korea - which in turn means you can enjoy travelling and culture even more! 😊 I hope this is useful info for you? Please let me know if you'd like me to clarify anything or you have any more questions! 💕

Hi I have a question. I’m finishing high school soon and doing my IGCSEs in about a month and incase my IGCSEs aren’t that good, can I use my mock results to apply? Do grades really matter in the process of applying for the programme?
Hi~! From what I know, your grades aren't important. You just need to have finished high school! ^^ I think that alongside with your finances are all they really are concerned about when you apply. I hope this is helpful? 💕
Definitely! It's completely up to you how many terms you'd like to do 🤗 There are 6 levels in total so that would be a year and a half if you did them consecutively which yeah 😭 it's a loooot of money 😭 I know a lot of people who did however many they could afford and then took some time off to make more money ahaha and then came back! 😅
Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy this review~ please make sure to stay tuned for the next one by subscribing to my channel and let me know your thoughts on the KLEC if you've been or if you're planning to go! 💖✨ 봐 주셔서 너무 감사드립니다! 이번 에피소드 잘 보셨길 바랍니다~ 그리고 구독해 주시면 너무 감사하겠습니다~ 💖✨
Hi Hana, I know this video is 3 yrs old now but just wondering with regards to the levels, do you complete one level at a time? So only studying only one level for 10-weeks? Can you do possible do Level 1&2 or Levels 1-3 in 10-weeks or in one semester? How could I potentially skip Level 1 since I feel like it would be a very slow Level?
I have a question, I want to apply but the only things I’m unsure about is that it said I need $10,000 in my bank account and that I need my high school diploma, is there anything else I need. I’ll be graduating next year. Is it good if I go ahead an apply?
That should be great - you can go ahead and apply! I remember freaking out about the $10,000 in my bank account because I definitely didn't have that ahahaha so luckily my friends/family loaned me the money just for the application! 😅 Good luck with your application! I hope everything goes well!!!! 💕
Hmmmmm! That's a good question... I think that because the KLEC is all non-Koreans I didn't make many Korean friends there - rather using my new Korean skills I was able to make lots of friends out and about? (Mostly by drinking in Hongdae tbh 😅)
hana_ppoi hahhaha i see! thank you! when you go drinking do you just walk up to people or do they walk up to you??? hahah sorry for so many questions i’m planing to go to korea in 2021 so i’m just curious !!🤗🤗

I did! Not through the program because of course native Koreans don't need to attend it ahahaha but I met lots of Koreans while out and about, either in Sinchon or Hongdae at bars, cafes, etc. or at language exchanges! 🤗
