Sorry if ot, but could you explain why there are some plural noun modifiers when the rule says they have to be used in the singular form? Found examples: sports day, special needs child, kids farm. Thanks!
Your explanations are just super! I prefer your channel to many channels which show up on Internet. You are a great communicator and you make simple structures which are actually complex. That's why I decided to subscribe. I'm also an English teacher in Setúbal, Portugal. Saudações de Portugal!
Oh, this was a really difficult one! As a Norwegian, much of the English grammar is quite similar and comes rather naturally to me, but this was something different, which I don't think we see in our language! I'm confused 🤪🤣 I'll be downloading the work sheet today, definitely! THANK YOU Greg!! ❤❤
Dear Mr.Greg, your explanation and presentation of this very topic are the best of all! Thank you very much for all your videos! They are great: correct, informative, easy to understand. And of real help, indeed! Thank you very much.
Thanks a good way to refresh old things I studied long time. ago. Onlh thing you should have stressed that the 2nd subject in the last sentences it is actually in the form of an object.
That's just a great chanell to improve english skills. I've found it accidentally(without taking into consideration a recommendation system from Google 😀) I had been struggling with English all my live as the most not natives who needs English(i believe) then I found an English teacher and she has helped me to improve my skills. For the last year I have been working for an internetional company as an IT manager/Software engineer and the langague became a pretty important part of my work) I can speak, I watch movies in Eglish so on so forth. But anyway sometime I do mistakes and I'm still far from being perfect. This channel is just a great source for me(hope for many other people also) to improve language skills. It's covers a lot of different topics to fill gaps and that's what I actually need on my level. Thank you very much Greg 🙂IMHO you're doing an amazing job Btw not sure if it's presented on the chanell. What's the difference between "work" and "job"? 😀
Please can you help, I have a question which is : with " would rather + subject + past tense " if I use "than" , should the verb after "than" be in the past simple too?? Which one is correct : I'd rather you took a taxi than wait or waited for a bus ???

Respected sir, Could you please enlighten me a bit about whether the sentence "The judge ordered the spy to be shot"is Grammatically correct. You are earnestly entreated to give a class on"passive voice with double infinitive"
Quick question, please. Would it be possible to say: I'd rather work from home than working from the office? as an alternative to "I’d rather work from home than in an office."?
Greg, why do you pronounce G when you say e.g. "somethinG", "watchinG" etc.? And my second question is: why do you pronounce ATE as AT? I was taught that it should sound like 8. Cheers 🙂👊🏻👋🏻
I'm not sure at 10:00, "I would prefer you to cook" is right, or at least not how I'd say it. I would say, "I would prefer you cook. I would prefer you do the dishes." Maybe it's an American English difference.
Thanks Greg! Hey guys i'm confused with "mine", could you help me please to understand the difference: 1. My friend visited me last year. 2. A friend of mine visited me last year. Thx in advance.
Are there no exceptions to "thee" always preceding vowels? For example. "The steak she served was good but thee eel was terrible." It just doesn't sound right at all
Hi , Greg . I,m new student when i,m not a student but everyday one can learn a new lesson in various aspects of life. My question is: Do native_ speaking English know these grammers? Do they practice them correctly ? I mean in written English it will be of course important BUT, if one doesn,t speak" it correctly , will people make fun of him/her or it,s just o.k? 😀🌹
Hi Greg. I've been teaching my students how to use "prefer" and "would rather" in a rather simpler way -they just know how to use "prefer gerund to gerund", "prefer noun to noun" or "would rather bare inf. than bare inf." Then I realized I might have a difficult time myself if things get a bit more advanced. This was really helpful, thanks a lot.
Do would rather and prefer same meaning? Can I use both of them with same meaning? And when do I use "than" and "to" which follow "would rather and prefer"?
Hii, Gerg... !¡! I appreciate it, since it's new to me. Please respond to my query! Would it be acceptable if I substitute these for those in the video? at 3:28, you can cook if you want but, I would rather, we were to go to a restaurant. at 3:51, I would rather, they were to email me then send me a letter.
I’d rather just not go to college at all than go by that crappy car. I prefer to stay home all day long rather than hanging out with my weird friends. He’d rather be late for work than take a cab, he’s very stingy. She’d rather have bottled up her anger than caused a big argument. ( she didn’t conceal her feeling of anger and let it burst out. ) She would have preferred to remain calm. ( she didn’t remain calm and as a result is regretting it. ) She preferred to remain calm. ( she remained calm and this was her preference. ) I would prefer it if they had given me a more suitable present. Are these sentences correct? Thanks for the lesson.
there i was scratching my head and wondering what the difference was and throughout the first 99% of the video complaining that you weren't answering the question, lol.
Absolutely great, but what about if i say, you can accompany me but i would rather you stayed at home. Is it correct as the second subject is singular!
I would rather they emailed me than sent me a letter. My inquiry as follows, this sentence has a past simple all the way from beginning to tge end. contrary to the previous one which reads, you can cook if you want... this part is in present and the second part, but i would rather we went to a restaurant is in the past. So what i want to know, is it okay to use past tense in all parts of a sentence or not ?
This is a wonderful channel. Congratulations. Could you be so kind to go deeper and teach us how the structures would be if we want to use them with verbs in the negative form with one or two subjects? Thank you very much.
Sorry to contradict you, but in the structures: I want you/them to go’ // ‘I would prefer him to go’, ‘you, them and him’ are the objects of the main verb, not another subject.
I have a doubt: at high school, I was taught that "'d" contraction stands for "had" instead of "would" in the structure "I'd rather...". Could you please shed some light?

At 0:56, you said "Is there any different between...." Of course, you should have said "Is there any DIFFERENCE between...?" I would have expected an English teacher, and a native one at that, to have got that right.
It's just a slip of the tongue. He was probably in two minds between "is there anything different" and "is there any difference". Native speakers of ALL languages do this from time to time. Not a big deal as it wasn't important to the actual grammar point.
