Not surprised on thst 185 grain 44 magnum bullet. It was far to light and traveling way to fast out of a carbine length barrel. It is better suited to pistol length barrels. If you using a 44 magnum out of a rifle barrel, you need at least a 240 grain or heavier bullet. That should reduce the velocity a good deal and give better performance out of tour rifle carbine.

@jasonkeating9958 Год назад
To all the pmc bronze haters this is a solid fact pmc bronze is easily top 3 hand gun ammunition and it could easily be argued that it the no1 most consistent ammunition in production today, And its not just 357 38 44 but 40 9mm 10mm 45 name any caliber that they make and you won't find another ammo company with this level of consistent performance anywhere else they have nailed it for consistency, Every full metal hollow point throughout the calibres performs equal to any boutique fmj ammunition you care to mention their hollow points are the best non expanding rounds in the market, They obviously went to incredible effort to achieve this incredible consistency bravo. Edit I didn't realise some were hunting ammo but the point stands the ammo is loaded to weak for short barrels, But this shows that they have the potential to be solid hand gun ammo if they actually loaded them properly, I don't understand what they are thinking when they make the decision to load their rounds with such low fps if they just filled the case up to even above where federal is and just charged extra for the extra powder their reputation would very quickly change baffling.

@@ToolsandTargets I remembered that longer barrels mean more friction, and that means softer lead. True, but it still did a nice job as far as damage and penetration. So as a defensive round in states where semi-auto rifles are banned, it would have still been adequate. Very good video! And yes, I was not surprised a bit. The 180 44Mag is not designed for that velocity. Knew it was going to come apart. Unless going to a 240gr JSP, they're likely to come apart. One of the reasons I sold my 44Mag levergun. The 357Mag and the 38hp, well, I expected both to do well. One reason why I cast a 160gr Keith SWC HP for both. Brutal on the hogs and coyotes that roam around my woods. Only thing meaner is my Henry Big Boy in 45 Colt. A 255gr cast SWC from a 20" barrel is a genuine hoss! Would be curious how PMC stacks up against Federal or Remington in a soft point. I was a little surprised at the velocity of the PMC 357 158 gr, thought it would be a little higher. 20" barrel might actually be slowing it down a little, 16 - 17 inches seems to be the optimal length for velocity.

Does not even have to be a Semiwadcutter Lead hollowpoint, just a bullet that will expand and be subsonic for low recoil and blast. Do you know of any 44 special ammo with those attributes ? Absolutely not surprised at all on any of your three loads tests. At rifle velocities in that 44 magnum 180 grain as exspected would come apart. That light weight bullet was designed for pistol velocities in shorter barrels at around 1300 to 1350 fps and not 1900 plus fps. A 240 or greater bullet in a 44 magnum rifle might perform better, get good penetration and hold together due to lower velocities.

For the shorter distance I encounter in the woods I hunt. The 44 mag from pistol or rifle is a favorite. First ever two-fer was with a Ruger 44 magnum rifle (wasn't intentional).

The 357 Mag 158gr JSP seems to be a good Home Defense round or Hawg & deer round with in 100 yds .. The 38spl 158gr LSWCHP isn’t really a weak round.. as you mentioned in the video… a bit of misunderstanding on your part … the 38 alphabet round as it is called in certain circles is quite a performer in a 4 inch revolver .. the projectile does some pretty odd things inside a person when it hits bone .. but as u saw .. even with the lower velocity.. basically performed similar to the 357 mag round .. I keep the 38spl LSWCHP round loaded in my Ruger Security Six As for the 44mag I use nuthin less than a 240gr bullet

Hey brother I'm a huge fan of you channel and a huge fan of .41 Magnum revolvers and rifles!!! Can you possibly come up with some videos on these? From your brother in Ga.!!!!! Yes I know the rifles are a bit hard to find but doable, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Taurus make revolvers ( check out Exile Armory in Alabama ) they have a you tube channel, Amber is sooo funny and pleasant to watch, also very good prices and they ship their products too!!! You know I love your channel lots, we have chatted back & forth a bit, if you can remember, I said some of my friends always say I talk funny, Like a hillbilly, but I'm proud of it and they are jealous of how I talk, We can't help it if they can't talk right, Right!!!

.38 Special ammo isn't likely or usually loaded with powders that continue to respond to added barrel length after about 16" inches quite like magnum ammo is. If you were loading your own however, there are powders that would give you a little more velocity potential out of longer barrels. Probably squeak another 50 to 75 FPS out of a +P 158 and still be "normal" for +P pressure. Something a Buffalo Bore or similar would do. Essentially getting low end mag revolver performance by using . 38 Special +P ammo in a carbine.

I prefer the 357, I can always shoot 38 that are less expensive. I wonder what a buffalo boar 357 magnum hot load would do out of the 20” barrel. Thanks keep up the good work!

Both the .357 and the .38+P performed excellently. Goes to show that the .357 can be a good short-range hunting round and the .38+P can be a good defense round at shorter ranges. That .44 was just moving too fast for its construction. If the jacket was just a bit thicker, it probably would do a lot better out of a rifle.
@ToolsandTargets
@ToolsandTargets Год назад
Agreed. I was really happy to see this .357 do well since I have quite a bit of it.

That 44 is definitely not designed for use in a rifle. Certainly not designed for that velocity. The 357 and 38 would probably be good hunting rounds inside of 60 or so yards. Great comparison video.

With a hard cast bullet or a jacketed soft point bullet the 44 magnum makes a very good hunting round. The hollow point was just pushed past it’s performance envelope.

I hit water bottles and 2 litres with 85 gr. hollow point .32's that load into a .303 or Moison Nagant. Light recoil very fast and vaporize the target. Dont know about accuracy but must be 3000fps and it is a sight to behold when the target basically disappears in a mist. Fun times with cheap bullets.

That seems a pretty insane speed on that .44 mag round, faster than the .357 by a long shot. I definitely like that lead, hollow point semi-wadcutter .38 spcl round, that's the best I think for a .38 load.
