"The Funhouse" by Diane Hoh, "Friday The 13th: The Carnival" by Eric Morse, "Taggard Point: Clowns" by Mark Rivers, "Carnival Of The Dead" by Laurence Staig (Point Horror Unleashed), "Nightmare Hall: Dark Moon" by Diane Hoh are some 90s YA featuring carnivals and clowns that I can think of off the top of my head.
The Carnival by Eric Morse is a wish list book of mine! Hope to find it one day even though haha that is a slim chance! Thank you for all the awesome recs!!!
Little Jackson corndog ❤️ I’m ready for Cornival! Your events are really helping me get through life right now. You’re awesome. I’ll be coming back to this video for all future Cornival ideas. I think next week is finally the time to read Clowns v Spiders 🕷️ Ohh The Black Carousel 🎠👀
So many great books, oh my gosh!! And somehow you convinced me to give Geek Love a shot 😂 I had overlooked it because the cover is so boring!! But the story sounds wild so idk why they didn’t do a more interesting book cover. Strange!! Those vintage books have the MOST amazing covers with all those clowns 😍
Have always loved carnival and clown themes, so I'm in awe of your collection! Will definitely have to check some of these out. The Forbidden Game trilogy is one I remember enjoying in the past, but sadly don't own any of those awesome original covers (yet)! 😅
I love this kind of video! I love creepy carnivals and am always looking for more! Any chance of doing one of these for creepy all-night diners/roadside attractions/creepy motels?
As always, a great video, and I can't wait to check out some of these books. I gotta say, I really loved "Joyland", thought it was a King story that had a wonderful sense of time and place, a great voice for the protagonist, and a satisfying story with some creepy moments and some heart. I remember being surprised at how much I enjoyed it when I read it.
I'm excited to get to Joyland one day! Also, glad you enjoyed the Hendrix article! It really made me appreciate IT even more honestly! Thanks so much for watching!
I'll be reading Clown in a Cornfield 3 this month so will join Amy McCaw's club thanks. I think Mina and the Slayer's had a carnival and also Clown museum scene in it too, but they weren't the focus of the book.
I’d recommend adding Shock Waves by Matt Kurtz to your amusement park list! It’s a whole lot of fun. Looking forward to reading some of these for the Cornival readathon. L.J. Smith was one of my favorite authors when I was in middle school and I recently reread the Forbidden Game trilogy and it held up really well!
I wil definitely check out Shock Waves at some point! Thank you for the rec - AND excited about getting to the Forbidden Game trilogy at some point. Thanks for watching!
Danger at the Fair by Peg Kehert is soooo good! I do recommend reading Terror at the Zoo first as it's sort of a first book and then Danger at the Fair is the sequel. They're both so much fun! Also, for the Spinechillers books, Dr. Shivers Carnival is unfortunately one of the worst in the series, but Birthday Cake and I Scream is one of the best! I recommend reading the version NOT in the 3-book bind up as it has some differences to the bind-up edition that I think are better! Also, one other carnival AND clown themed book is a middle grade book from the Darkside series by Tom Becker, book #4: Nighttrap. It's a little hard to find in the USA, as it was only published in the UK. But that whole series is so much fun. I would recommend reading the other books in the series before book #4 as the story does build from book to book. They're a lot of fun, kind of a steampunk horror Sherlock Holmes in an alternate version of London where monsters are real and lurk in the shadows!!
Had no idea it was a second book - so thank you! Sad to hear Dr. Shivers Carnival isn't great but excited about Birthday Cake and I Scream! I'll read the edition you suggested! Thank you again :) Also excited to check out the Darkside series!
I really liked DARK JOURNEY and THE FUNHOUSE of the books you showed. FUNHOUSE really adds a lot of backstory to the Tobe Hooper horror film. A couple carnival/clown books you might want to look for are MANITOU DOLL by Guy N. Smith and DEAD WHITE by Alan Ryan.
I definitely recommend Joyland by Stephen King! It's a coming of age story with great old school amusement park atmosphere. It mostly takes place in the fall, so perfect for this time of year. And the cover is awesome!
Thanks for sharing! All these horror books about carnivals and circuses got me wondering have you seen the movie Carnival of Souls? Really great spooky 60's low budget horror movie that's really brilliant and has multiple long sequences set at an abandoned carnival/dance hall that looks like it should be on the shore of a lake but the water is gone so you get all this great imagery of this huge abandoned dance hall that's desolate and piers that go to nowhere.
the cover and title of Geek Love does not make you think its a carvinal book hahah, but it sounds so interesting!! I'm determined to read 'It' in the next year, and you talking about it is hyping me up for it 🙌🙌 and thanks for bringing up the analysis from grady hendrix! I will def have to check that out once I read it.
I know!!! The Geek Love horror is sadly so boring! You should totally try to give IT a go! I know it's intimidating, but for me using audio as I read along very much helped!!! Definitely recommend reading the Hendrix article when you've finished! Selfishly hoping you get to it so I can hear your thoughts on your channel :) Thanks for watching!
i've just found your channel and i have to say i'm immediately subscribing!! also it might be a little out of your genre but i read "the man who fell to earth" and i loved both the way it was written abd the story. do you have any reccomendations? ❤❤
What about state fairs or county fairs? The Doll by Rex Sparger. Scared the crap out of me as a kid. Not horror but "dark cozy"? The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Loved your collection! I will not be buying any (too scary), lol, but it was fun to see all your books
I have The Night Circus on my radar!!! Have heard great things! I'm totally okay reading outside of the horror realm! Thank you so much for watching! Also I gotta check out The Doll! I would love more books about fairs!
Ooooh awesome! I am very pumped for Something Wicked this Way comes I made my TBR before I saw this haha. GILA! GILA! GILA! RIPPED LIZARD MAAAAAAN. Oh I think I have Geek love somewhere. hahahahahahahahahaha I KNEW IT....I was like "wow she hasn't brought up the moth peen scene yet" you held off impressively long. Me getting flashbacks of making GarbAugust read The Devils Laughter even though I never bothered doing it myself LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Thank you for reminding me I picked up The Beast from a little free library for this event. THE MIIIIIME AAAAAAH. The Funhouse more like The Shithouse lololololololololololol. Oooh yeah That's where that Longarm carnival book ended up hahaha. Clowns FOREVER.
I never knew there were so many carnival and clown books! I have been hearing a ton about The Cotton Candy Massacre and Clown in a Cornfield. Those are the ones that are on the top of my list from this video. 🤡 But of course many other you mentioned made my never ending tbr 🤣😁 🤡♥
Your specialized book collection is a little overwhelming. In saying that I'd add -- not enough winter or Christmas carnivals. ☃ 😁 If you have The Power #5 somewhere in the collection it features a winter carnival.
