I was away most of the month of May and have only gotten back to my garden . I have been facing the same challenge of catching up. At least with all the rain the weeds have been easy to pull. I hope to see yours when you have caught up. Gardens are never finished.
I appreciate the honest balance of the good and the problematic areas of your garden. It must be rewarding to be so busy as a designer, but at the same time, I can imagine it must be frustrating to see the weeds take over some parts of your lovely garden. It still looks beautiful!
Interesting -- I am retired and I am still behind on everything in the garden. At least this year my local nursery is keeping up their stock of annuals -- is there anyone who actually gets all of their planting done in May???? Anyway, very helpful to see the garden plants that can hold their own. I know you will enjoy putting things in order again.
Great to be back in your garden. It’s looking beautiful even if it was ignored. How often do you need to spray for deer? Does it last even if it rains or do you spray again right after a rain? We get a lot of summer showers and I wonder how long it sticks around.
Northern Michigan, zone 5/6, I’m STILL planting but find I, too, have areas that need weeding/maintenance before I can get the last of these annuals in the ground.😉
Hi, Yuliya! Do the deer get used to the spray after awhile? This has got to be the worst year year ever for me. They’ve eaten all my roses and hydrangeas and now my impatiens. They used to only eat my sweet potato vines.
Hey Yuliya, No shame in your game! 😂 For those of us who also work for a living, we owe no apologies to anyone. I think all of your perrenials saved the show. Thanks for your honesty, modesty, and always sweet and positive energy!
Your garden looks so beautiful, even neglected ‼️ I also didn’t have time to devote to my garden this year, and it’s so frustrating. Happy Gardening this week.🌺
I really love your garden. it looks so natural and beautiful! I like you leaving some space to nature mother. it turns out amazing. I also like your dump place. the plants weave in fabulously.
Love your gardens! And your plant combinations are fantastic! Wondering if you've had aster yellows strike any of your echinacea? I think I have it on a couple of my echonacea plants. Z5b Massachusetts. Waiting for a couple more blooms to open to see if I need to remove and trash the plants. A self sowing plant I'm loving is rudbeckia hirta. Even grows along the edges of my gravel driveway. Self sows reliably.
Oh Yuliya! Your garden tour brought me so much joy! I think that Agastache is more like an annual: I’m in southern NJ zone 7, and I can never get them to last more than a year. I’ve been wanting to get a smaller version of Joe Pye weed, and after seeing yours, I’m convinced that my garden needs it. Your cone flowers are stunning and I admit, I’m a bit jealous! Mine never stand a chance with my deer population. They eat right through my deer spray…it’s like a condiment for them! Enjoy the weeding! ❤
Hi Yuliya! am a big time fan of your channel. I find that even after so many years of gardening, I always learn something from your videos. I'm planning to make a wild garden at the back of my backyard. What is that variety of miscanthus grass you said was very large at 9:18 in this video ?
Your garden is always so beautiful. It's amazing how fast weeds can take over. Some of your weeds are quite beautiful! I accidentally planted an evening primrose, it can take over an area easily. The round flower with the bee on it at 15:40, is that an allium? It's so beautiful and vibrant! Thank you for sharing your garden.
Not bad for an uncared for garden!😊 I love the Cottage Garden look😻. Mine usually has more weeds galore and has looked so much worse after only a week or two of neglect 😅. Thank you for noting/using Botanical references❤. I'm in France so I have to look up the Common name (so often used) in order to find a plant.
Glad you’ve had good business this year:) at least you’ll get immediate satisfaction for your work out there this week. Of course, you are starting with gorgeous plants!
So beautiful! I think that even without much maintenance, the untamed spots of your garden look gorgeous. The beautiful plant pairings outshine the chaos. I’m originally from NJ and live just outside of Berlin, Germany now. We have sandy soil and are in a never ending drought - I sure miss how lush and green Jersey is in summer. I’m even a bit jealous of your weeds, TBH. ❤❤❤
As much as we love seeing your garden, we love your business being busy even more! I am always jealous of anyone with coneflower. They really seem to hate containers... so they come to my house for a slow death in a container.
Because of injuries this spring, I wasn’t able to work in my flowerbeds either and the weeds are as prolific as yours! Because of temps in the 90’s with humidity 70-80% and thunderstorms this week I still won’t get much weeding done. 😝. Planting close together is definitely a plus in preventing weeds. A good reason to get more plants! 😊👍👏
Still a magnificent garden, Yulia 🏡🦋🌻🌸🌼Thank you for sharing. I always enjoy your videos. It’s raining and cold here in Australia, so lovely see some flowers 🌺
What I've learned from this - because I don't know the native plants of your area, 99% time I can't tell your weeds from intentioned structural or filler plants ))) they all are just lush healthy looking plants blending in a colorful mix. Kinda inspires me to rethink "weeds" in my garden planning. In my dry climate and poor soil, I'll probably need to welcome some weeds and call them flowers )
A lot of work cut out for you, but your fixing that! 🥵😄 We finally had a day of good showers yesterday. Much needed! Nice having the plants watered with and good for our air/sky, as we were effected by the Canadian fires with foggy smoke haze. It put me down for a couple of days in bed. Thank God, I think it's finally gone away! 🙏 The plants made it through. Yay!! 🙌💚🌿🍀
What do you think of Gooseneck Loosestrife? I have a large swath behind my house. I know it’s considered invasive, but it always blooms nicely and the pollinators love it.
What is the old saying…”One year of weed seeds brings seven years of weeds!” I believe it! I’ve had to skip seasons of weeding due to my husband’s health and then it feels like a never-ending battle!! Try to get them before they produce seed!!! 🌸🌼🌺
Beautiful! Is that Elephant Ears in there? Did you leave it from last year or dig it up and replant in spring? Incredible natural flower/plant garden. I know you have banned the Deer, but do you have other animals living in and around such a natural development? Like Skunks, Possum, on that line? Beautiful yard!
It's still really lovely, who looks at the ground on the way by anyway 😊 I don't know about you guys, but this yr I haven't had hardly any pollinators, very strange. I always have a nice selection of butterflies, not one yet, and...my garden has never been more beautiful. I did just get a hoard of Japanese beetles last week, they've already turned some foliage into lace.
Looks beautiful to me ❤!! I really appreciate that you identify each variety, as I'm always looking for new things to add to the garden. Could you please tell me what spray you use for deer? My tulips became a buffet for them this year and I want them back next year!
I wish my garden looked as pretty when I neglect it!! It really is beautiful! I have 2 little joe pye weed plants that I can't wait till they start doing something! Been 2 years and they are not being as aggressive as I would like!
Your garden plant selection is amazing! Thank you for taking the time to share the plant names What is s the variety of fever few you have? I’ve been admiring them for years now.
Gardening is so much fun and so full of surprises. Flowers are popping up in my flowerbeds this year that I never planted but are very welcome! Thanks for your very charming videos.
Perennial Gardens can get away from you so quickly. I know exactly how you feel when work at client’s homes keep you from your own. What a great feeling however to get back to it. Enjoy being in your beautiful garden!
Thank you for sharing your garden with us. It’s so nice to see normal! Weeds!!! Have you ever have to deal with poison ivy in your yard or a client’s yard? I am surrounded by folks that do not keep bad things from creeping into my yard. I have an area where I pulled and used a 75% vinegar concentrate solution to get rid of invasive weeds/plants etc. I plan to amend the soil and add at least 8 inches of fresh soil creating an elevation with a rock wall border. Have you ever had to plant something on the border of a fence to stop ivy from coming into a clients yard? If so, did it help?
Hello, how is the Spotted Lanterfly by you so far this year? I have been seeing tons of nymphs and disposing what I can catch. I hope our birds and predatory insects find them tasty soon and help keep them under control.
I am also in love with the veronicastrum I planted! It just glows! Love this wild space, and I keep forgetting to get euphorbia seeds, gotta order those now. I find that deer or another critter munch my baby Joe pye weed and bee balm right before they flower 😢
So that’s it’s name! “Spider wort” grows in my back yard within the grass ❤️❤️❤️. Love the natural look and having plants as weed suppressants. Thank you for sharing.
SO SO beautiful, even with weeds. I am waiting patiently for my eryngium yuccifolium to bloom. started from a plug last year, the leaves are big and beautiful, so hoping for flowers. I'm about two weeks behind you in Massachusetts, and then my little micro climate garden is about a week or two behind everyone in marblehead 😂
What you have is a layered garden. You picked out so many plants by name. I do understand you don't want to have your space overrun by some particular plants. I guess, as you said, you start with the chickweed area. The flowers are lovely!
I'm seeing this in August 2024.. I love how easy and trouble free Echinacea is, and I simply must find that Echinacea Pallida. It reminds me of Degas' painting of a ballerina called Dancer on Stage. Just delightful.
Your strip / garden is GORGEOUS ...weeds and all. I actually prefer a more natural look, rather than structured . It depends. But you some how succeed at making weeds look like they fit right into the picture.🙂🏵🥀🌻🌷🌸🌹
Well it still looks beautiful! Mine would b a weedy mess I gotta get more echinacea they are just blooming for months I love them … Omg deer!!! They ate the tops of all my strawberry plants in the whole patch 🍓🍓🍓🙁🙁🙁 and pulled up several of my dahlias!!! Goodness they are so RUDE 🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely love your flower garden, it looks a whimsical and natural. I absolutely love your phox, i also have plox. Thank you for sharing your garden with us.❤❤❤
I broke my humerus last Sept as I was starting to reseed and clean up the garden. I had to put everything on hold, but my shoulder isn’t healing, still, 10 months later because I have Lyme disease which is restricting the blood flow to my shoulder. I now need another MRI and CT scan in August, and I have been one-handed gardening with no help. I have to neglect the back portion of my yard and try to fill this slope in with extra plants so my dog doesn’t get back there behind a small fence. It’s neglected now, but yours looks so pretty!!
Yuliya you garden despite of the neglect always looks good! It may have a bit more weeds… but you will show us how to clean it up and make it even more beautiful! For as long you were “called away” from your garden by work schedule and not by an injury all is good!😀☺️❤️
Absolutely beautiful! Are you not concerned about the encroachment on the sidewalk? A person using a walker or wheelchair has to run over your plants in order to pass through. And that makes it slippery for them.
