Gracias Paula.
OK, how to actually think in Spanish. My tip is to not start out by thinking of something you want to say in English and trying to translate it. If it is a complicated idea, almost all the time there will be some words that you can't translate. Instead think of something you can say using the words you know. For example the other day there was a man bringing boxes of supplies into the store. It popped into my mind to say "muchas cajas" which I think means "a lot of boxes". The guy just looked at me like he didn't understand. This is were my Spanish really kicked in. So I ask him "hablas espanol". This time he understood. I think part of it is that he did not expect a gringo to talk to him in Spanish. I explained "estoy apriendiendo espanol". Here my Spanish failed me so I switched to English and told him, I was trying to say "a lot of boxes" and I repeated "muchas cajas". This time he understood but repeated it back to me with correct pronunciation. This young man I believe is what we call heritage speaker. Someone who grew up in California and is totally fluent in English but spoke Spanish at home growing up. We had a good conversation. The bad habit I have is constantly switching back to English the minute I want to say something that I can't translate from English to Spanish. The trick is to think of things you can say with the words you have. Duo lingo says I have a 548 day streak. It used to be that when I multiplied the number of days of my streak by 10 it was more than Paula's subscribers. For example when I had 100 days, Paula had less than 1,000 subscribers. Now when I multiply the number of days I have been learning Spanish by 10, Paula has more subscribers than this. Tal vez puedo aprender a pensar en Español. Puede que aprenda a pensar en Español. Maybe I can learn to think in Spanish (second version using the subjunctive)
That’s exactly how to start thinking in Spanish. Make up simple sentences, with words you already know, and little by little build up on that. Your last 2 sentences are absolutely correct!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Te felicito por llevar muchos días seguidos practicando Duolingo. 🥳🥳
Paula, ¡muchas gracias por tus videos y tus maravillosas explicaciones! Siempre comprendo todo y aprendo mucho. ¿Tienes PayPal? Quiero decir GRACIAS 😍😍😍
