Thank you for this conversation about SHAME & ADHD. I've never correlated how much shame I have for the shortcomings from ADHD symptoms, (not to mention the shame from having shame.) WoW. This resonates with my development, esp the 7-15 childhood years... The insecurities that still persist today at 48 yrs of age even with 10+ years of therapy & treatment. The most powerful example of successfully overcoming shame is being authentic, allowing yourself to be vulnerable by owning mistakes and changing actions. Forgiving yourself. Wow. I've already been doing this, but didn't recognize how huge and important this is to moving forward when being stuck. Thank you.

Never shared my stuff at all as a younger person. As an adult I’ve learned my issues because I never understand me. I’m 72 but still struggle with issues. Example in a conversation I don’t stay on track and jump all over the board, drives my daughter crazy. Tired of hiding my issues, what can I do for me?

I feel stupid on a regular basis. It takes me so long to get the hang of things. I make little mistakes that just kill me and cause so much shame and worry

Damn. This hits the nail on the head. I dated a girl for a year and she wasn't having any of it from me. Dating her really forced me look at myself and be vulnerable. I might have just ignored my adhd for another decade if I wasn't forced to own my blindspots

That’s if a boss actually keeps you on long enough to develop that relationship or even values you enough as an employee to have these conversations regarding vulnerability

I just hate that I can’t get started do what I need to do. A fight within yourself. Then the learning part. You think you may be able to do something, until you fail, because lack of focus to details/ instructions or the brain just doesn’t understand how others got to that answer. Laziness, but maybe that’s just me.
