I started quilting on my own and still do it as a solitary person except when I visit a quilt shop for fabric. I haven’t made a lot of them so I still consider myself a beginner quilter. I have made a lot of beginner mistakes like starting too large. I agree that watching Irene is uplifting as well as informative.
I am so happy Irene and I finally got together for this interview. I have thoroughly enjoyed her QAL. I can't wait to catch up and share it with your all. It was also nice to talk with a fellow RU-vidr and talk shop. Thank you for showing up and joining us.
Loved this, it was a wonderful introduction to Sugaridoo! (Irene, your name is certainly lovely pronounced the “English” way, but it’s even lovelier when pronounced as you do☺️.) Thank you both for this!
Love seeing two positive quilters coming together. I loved learning more about Irene, her quilting journey and what we can look forward to from her in 2021. I’m also looking forward to seeing Karen’s completed Sugaridoo quilt.
I’m also an engineer - precision is the common trait! Really enjoyed this and got a big kick over the Imperial vs metric discussion - the US is so backwards
Loving your interviews! So nice to see a conversation, that we would like to have, with some of our favorite quilt people! Thank you! Please consider Donna Jordan as a potential interview-ee!
I love Irene, so bubbly and positive. I did the first quilt along and loved learning the new techniques. I Have just started the new QAL she referred to in her new book Happy Notes. Im really looking forward to it.
Just saw interview with E-ray-na 😉 what a delightful disposition she has, caught myselft smiling just cuz she did lol - and so happy she “got infected” with the quilting bug 😁 thanx for sharing!
One of the most delightful videos I’ve ever seen. Irene’s infectious enthusiasm is like a breath of fresh air! Thank you Karen and thanks for all the work to present these videos for is
You are such a great interviewer, Karen! Thank you for reminding me about Sugaridoo and Irene. I had discovered her channel before and loved this delightful young woman! I got away from it and will now keep it in mind.
Wonderful to see both of you ❤ I'm a quilter who started without other quilters. I didn't know any quilters before or during my first quilt. During my education, I changed computering to quilting, not knowing anything about it. I made it and fell in love ❤ Then I found Just get it done and after that Sugaridoo. You both have been and are such an inspiration and have learned alot following you, taking part in the Sugaridoo Bernina qal. Thank you for widening my wuilt world 🥰
Hello from Denmark (was living in Canada) to this great chat with Irene. So glad I stumbled onto it this grey and gloomy day. It certainly brightened up things for me. Since my daughter is now living in The Netherlands I will very definitely get to see you Irene (when we're all allowed to, hopefully soon). Congratulations to you both getting this video set up.
What an enjoyable video. I stumbled upon Sugaridoo’s videos last year and have loved watching Irene. She is so positive and happy, plus I love her choice of fabrics. However, I have struggled somewhat with FPP, I guess I should give it another chance. Your tips in your videos have been so helpful, and your enthusiasm for quilting is so nice to see, Thank you from Pennsylvania.
Thank you, Karen! I recently moved to the Netherlands from the U.S. and am excited to learn that quilting is alive here! I initially visited four shops in The Hague looking for fabric, etc. only to discover I was really in upholstery shops! So this information is so appreciated!
My favorite quilt teachers, Karen, Irene and Donna Jordan. Irene the QAL was so good, I learned so much and that's why I joined. Thanks for all your work that you've done for us. Karen you are my fellow Canadian, and I LOVE your channel. Thanks for a great interview.
I listen French quilting from France and they mix French and English quilting terms. In French a inch , when we were imperial, was "a pouce (like a thumb!!) but the French quilters says 1/4 of a inches (pronounced like this) and we have French words for imperial! But after a long time that we are metric now, I do all my sewing/quilting in inches!! Me too!
I am a French Canadian from Quebec and there, around Montreal, I found one guild and we don’t have "quilting store"!! We go to usual fabric store and the good big ones are a few!
Hi from the Netherlands! What a lovely interview! I’m new to quilting, actually I just started my very first quilt. I first found you, Karen, and now I found Irene as well. Thank you! Hope you will be able to visit the Netherlands soon. In my hometown Zutphen we have the Canadian’s bridge, because of all the sacrifices and lost lives in WW II, history is still alive here, and we’re grateful. It’s very touching to see that even grandchildren still want to visit all those places. Blessings from Holland. Lidy
Hi Lidy, A fellow beginner quilter over here. I'm from Schijndel (near Eindhoven and S'-hertogenbosch) in the Netherlands. Nice to see there are more people who are quilting over here. Hope when the pandemic is over we can welcom the Canadian and Americans who are the reason we live in a free country. Over here we have operation market garden and we think every year all that were lost whit a ceremony. Love Angelique
@@liekvanderheijden7967 My husband and I visited the Netherlands a few years ago, such a beautiful country and very impressed with how the country is run and the friendly hard working people.
@@liekvanderheijden7967 Dag Angelique! Ja heerlijk rustgevende bezigheid dat quilten, helemaal nieuw voor me, maar dat is juist leuk! En je woont, qua herdenken, wel in een historische omgeving! Dag!
Between Sugaridoo and Just Get it Done is a great the two of you are together! I feel so good when i learn and loving the chat! There is a loving something about the classes you meet and feel so belong or complete, around the world. There are so many things you get involved and it helps you mentally and physical. You said it! It’s Great! Thank you all🌸🥰
I did this quilt but had surgery in October so haven’t finished it but I will this summer. I loved the whole process learned a lot of different techniques! And enjoyed the company and Irene! Loved the interview! I really enjoyed watching you!
Hi, I am Dutch and I am new to quilting and I just found your channel this weekend. It was such a nice surprise to see your interview with Irene from Sugaridoo, I didn't know her but now I will follow her too. Love your tips and I learn so much, I watch a few video's every day. What a blessing in this Corona time where we have to stay at home most of the time. Thank you!
Lovely! Two of my favorite RU-vidrs in one place. Both of you have exceptionally pleasant presentation for teaching. What a great way to start November. And a happiness theme for 2021- I can get into that.
I tell people that I am doing a quilt along with Sugaridoo and 6,000 of my best friends! You two are my two favorite quilting videographers (is that the correct term?) !! Such a fun video!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I don’t know how Irene has time. Hats off from one Mum of a youngster to another! Love Sugaridoo videos. I actually did start quilting on my own and have learned everything I know from the internet and ditto with knitting.
I love Irene's channel... 💞... Thank so much for this fabulous interwie... She is such a happy colorful young lady! And your channel is so gorgeous... 💞
Lol In the US, we have trouble understanding Metric. I keep trying but it just doesn't sit in my head. LOL I Love this video. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Karen this was another very pleasant interview. I love the series that you are recording. Bonus with this one is that I’m Dutch too. And as Irene said too, quilting is not very big in the NL, so it’s interesting to hear her talk about the modern quilting that is going on here. Too bad you couldn’t it make it to the NL this year. But our beautiful country will be waiting for better times to host you.
Great interview. Irene is such a lovely lady and very inspirational. I will have to look at more of her work. Nice to hear that others have the dilemma of whether to use metric or imperial measurements. I have reverted to inches as block calculations are so much easier.
Hi Karen, I really enjoyed this video with Irene 🥰👍💖 You and Irene are so much fun and I’ve learned a lot from both of you. Thank you both for being such great teachers and sharing so much information !!! Take Care and God Bless Everyone 💜👍💖 Chris-Raleigh NC
I, too, started watching Sugaridoo and Just Get It Done Quilts way back when. It's been a fun journey. My Sugaridoo QAL has been so much fun. 💕 Thank you Karen for interviewing Irene. You're both amazing 💕
I'm from the Great Lakes area of the USA and it's so awesome to see others from around the world quilting! I remember when I 1st started quilting again after my kids got older, thinking I was the only one besides my mother-in-law who still quilted. Lol then I went to JoAnn's on a big sale day and WOW! Not alone! And now here! And you two are my favorites ❣️ So real and the struggles are real and what Joys to work through and just get it done! Bless you both!
Thanks Karen for all your interviews. Each one has been interesting and helpful. This one didn’t disappoint. I really enjoy watching Sugaridoo videos. My face gets a bit tired though as I’m smiling with Irene as she talks. She is so happy. I haven’t tried FPP as yet but it’s in my mind to try. Karen I really get so much from your videos that is helpful and practical. I’ve used so many of your ‘hacks’. I can’t wait for your next video once I’ve watched the current one. Please keep them coming. Have a happy day 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Great interview. The struggle is real with moving between imperial and metric. As a child in the US, I remember hearing that we were going to metric. This was... 1972??? And then we didn't. I knit and our patterns are often in both metric and imperial. Although I know this, I bumped up against a kind of hilarious problem 3 months ago. I was working on the back of my "covid cardigan," a project I'm do with a row here or there during Zoom meetings. I was knitting along on the back--miles of stockinette--heading from the top of the neck down toward the point where I'd add in the stitches that go under the arms. I kept checking the pattern... "it says 23... Hmmm... Okay, I'll keep knitting..." I don't know if I was just distracted by the pandemic and lockdown or what, but it finally hit me (at about 22.5") that I had been thinking I needed to knit 23 INCHES when I really needed 23 CM -- just 9 inches!
Thank you both for this wonderful video. I really enjoyed the chat. And it reminded me of my own trip to the Netherlands with my sister to visit a crochet party at Irene's old studio. We didn't know anyone but we were welcomed so warm. It was a wonderful day with the fabulous Irene
I loved this video! I'm in! I'm also working on my Sugaridoo quilt and look forward to the finish of my flimsy. I have been a fan of Irene's for sometime. I feel like we are learning together. And Thanks to her, I found you just today. Quilting in Cambridge, Ontario. Sew On 🤟 Positive Threads
It is heart warming, to experience the community among quilters, even from country to country! I was smiling the entire time you ladies talked, I am sure I will watch again, as I am trying to piece together a quilt top and watch you tube at the same time! Thank you Karen, I have learned so much from you, God bless you and your family!
I just love Irene, she is such a delight, I always wanted to know why she named it Sugaridoo and what it means! Thank you for another wonderful video, Karen!
Love, love these interviews. They have opened up new quilt thoughts. I married into a Dutch family so was interesting to hear about Dutch quilting since my in-law family all crochet and I "fancy" quilt, as they say. This is different than blocks sewed together and tied with yarn. Those are " homey" quilts to them. Ii enjoyed Irene very much, thank you.
I've just recently come across her videos. FINALLY, I had a simple question answered by watching her for my first-time. She's a good teacher and so enjoyable.
Thank you, Karen. I’ve been watching Irene’s RU-vid videos for a long time. I love her; she’s just a creative and joyful spirit I love to let into my life. You, too.
I had never quilted before i came across Irene’ s sugaridoo channel, I’ve just finished my top from the QAL and look forward to sending picture of it in to bernina. Both of you are so full of enthusiasm and and knowledge you make me so happy, keep safe with love 💕 from England
Thank you so much h for sharing Irene with us. She so positive. Two of my brothers are mehanical engineers. One is more creative than the other. Interesting how many women come to quilting from math and science backgrounds. I excited to see the finished quilts.
Thank you again for this terrific interview! Last year I was a complete novice and I joined because I wanted to learn how to sew my scraps together. Well the sugaridoo qal has got me hooked on quilting! Mt Scrapmore just keeps growing! 😍
How cool too watch this today. You two are both at the toy of my quilting youtube channels to watch! You are both a delight to listen to and learn from. ~pkb from Alabama, USA
What a fun interview! Irene has such a fun and bubbly personality, I love watching her videos. As someone who lives in the Netherlands it was fun to hear a conversation about Dutch quilting life on an international channeI. I do hope you get to make your trip to Nijmegen someday. I actually live there so if you wanted I would love to show you around.
