Thanks for this! I recently lost my husband and have been trying to figure out what all his tools were for and how to use them to keep things going around here when all of the sudden I remember my hubby telling me "RU-vid" he was one of those guys that could build or repair anything and often he would RU-vid. This will be a great tool to have with me when I move across this country next year when I retire. Now I think I will go fill up my car tire since the air pressure light is on!😁
Ive found out that most of these $25.00 to $60.00 tire inflaters put 3 to 4lbs of air per minute in a auto tire. Thank god you don't have to use them very much. They are GREAT for emergencies.
Only thing missing from this tool is a preset function to set the psi and walk away. The option is available on the bigger inflator, but for less than $25, you can’t complain with this one.
I bought one of these but chose to return it. The lack of trigger lock is inexcusable. It is really slow. I know most of these cheapo pumps are slow, but my harbor freight direct drive 12V pump works much faster, quieter, and cooler. And if I recall correctly, the Ryobi has a stated duty cycle of a max of 5 minutes before you have to let it cool. So it's basically useless. edit: and I'm a Ryobi fanboy. I have over a dozen Ryobi tools, plus a bunch of batteries. And I've bought Ryobi as gifts for several of my friends and family.
Absolutely!! You are correct. I make this statement in the video. Really doesn't make sense if you don't have the batteries. SKIL is a great choice. Thanks for watching.
It's the exact same as the HART inflator that was also $20-$25, It was pretty handy but I blew mine up within three months. I was stupid and after taking it apart and finding a broken piston rod... I threw it away and didn't even consider taking it back and having it replaced until months later. but my main disappointment after this video ended is. *****150psi******** i don't think it can do it. but really wanted to see it blow up. or be very surprised to see it actually do it. love the channel but C'MON MAN! GOT T0 DELIVER THE GOODS.!!!! Don't mind crazy thumbnails and unrealistic titles. even if the answer is obvious as long as the subject is addressed. confirmed true false or inconclusive but at least attempted. and if Ryobe is a sponsor, I really hope that the results are not being covered up because it failed to deliver or blew up. I feel that information is very important, not just because it advertises it, it's in the thumbnail/title (i think it was) but even if not it was brought up at the beginning of the video. if I'm going to trust your commentary and ability to test these tools, I have to know that you're not in the company's pocket. and maybe I was misled and this is just an infomercial channel disguised as an actual review channel. if that's the case I can just watch the product line commercials if that's what I wanted. I'm not opposed to anyone getting paid unless that means we get fluff reviews that focus on strengths and the bad things get swept under the rug. I've been a subscriber for only a couple months and am not jump[ing off the ship just yet, but I do have to know if I can believe that the information on this channel is not filtered by the tool companies (or company) your reviewing
Have it's little brother from a few years ago. It worked for a couple of rv tires and died, it was cheap as hell when I got it $39 ? so wasn't overly upset that it was dead. Took it apart and found a little loose chunk of plastic stuck under the check valve, 5 minutes worth of "repair" and it still works GREAT !
I use this tool every other day to top off skid steer(65psi) and occasionally trailer tires(110psi), they last about 2 or 3 months on average, pro tip if it starts to smell switch to a different one or let it cool off or it'll be toast also zip tie the trigger and inserting the battery is your new on and off
It's ok..but the rigid unit has auto dial + auto shut off, quick release and life time warranty on the tool. Also NOT having to hold the trigger on the rigid unit is a great safety feature.
The ridgid also can be used from the car 12v source so a great option to have in the car if you're not in that platform , also the Ryobi gauge is not very accurate.
Ryobi makes auto inflators that have all the features you mentioned. They’re just bigger and more cumbersome since they’re a two in one and also the high pressure side seems slower then this high pressure only tool. I too wish it was more like the Ridgid.
I have the Makita which also doesn't have a trigger lock but I fixed that. I wish this was my idea but to give credit I saw it on a YT review. I use a tie wrap that stays on the unit. It's tight enough to slip over the trigger when depressed but I can slip it off the trigger to shut it off. It's not ideal but it works and I don't have to hold that damn trigger.
I also put a zip tie on my trigger, I just leave it on there. I hook the tool up to my tire and then put the battery in it and when I’m done I just take the battery back out
This tool has a duty cycle of 5min on 5 min off. Amazon sells battery adapters so you can use Milwaukee/Dewalt batteries with this tool. The battery adapters sell for about $15 (there is no low voltage protection on many of them, so you must make sure that the battery has at least 1 bar/light of power while the tool is in use) this ryobi inflator is amazing little tool to throw in a backpack when going on a long bicycle ride, inflating small tires, balls and anything falling within that 5min on 5min off duty cycle. I would not use it on a car tire unless you're willing to wait (observe the duty cycle) or risk damage to the ryobi inflator.
I have 2 riding mowers with 4 tires apiece. 1 hand truck with 2 big tires. Pressure washer with 2 mini tires and a fertilizer spreader with 2 tires, a leaf shredder with 2 tires a rear tine tiller with 2 massive tires and 2 SUV vehicles that need air adjustments every once in awhile and this Ryobi inflator is like gold to me cuz I don't have to bring these items to my air compressor which has 2 tires anymore. Maybe I'll get another one for backup! Highly recommend for every home owner.
My truck tires are nail magnets. I pulled the nail then plugged it up myself while broken down. I've done this many times. I grabbed my new Ryobi 18v and started her up. About 10 minutes later the tire was at 36 psi and away I went. Total time from flat to driving away was 30 minutes. This is exactly why I bought this bad boy. Side of the road emergencies. Worked as advertised. Previously I've used those "SLIME" compressors for 2 decades with mixed results. When the SLIME failed at the worst possible time (Side of a highway outside Pittsburgh 2am, 18 wheelers flying by dangerously close.) I knew I needed a more modern tool. The failed 'SLIME' unit was brand new. The older ones I've had were better built. I gave those to family when I bought the new Slime which failed miserably. I say "Two Thumbs Up" for the Ryobi 18v. Bonus---> I had 3 other Ryobi tools with extra batteries so I only purchased the unit & slapped in one of my batteries in the garage. Voila !
Nicely done review and demo. I’m a Ryobi fan and wish they would have put a pre-set auto shut off on it but for small items it’s definitely worth it. Thanks
Is the depressor on the inside of the nozzel that pushes down the tyre valve metal or plastic on this device. I have read reviews of other pumps that have plastic depressors that broke. I would hate to have to throw out the whole device, just because the part that pusches in the valve broke off.
Ok but can it do it with the cars full weight on the tire and pump it full or does it have to have the weight of the car removed to be able to fill up an entire tire in 9min? Because if it can't its useless I ain't going to be able to lift my car in the middle of nowhere sometimes depending on the enviroment i am in off roads or weather conditions. My current makita tire inflator can do it from empty with all the car weight no problem and that cost me 100 with tax a few years ago. I like ryobi I have trimmer and this is really a cheap price.
How do i store it? I was hoping to store the gadget and battery pack in my car but i live in Chicago its winter its -20 is there a case to properly store the battery pack ive been reading all the safety rules on battery storing its scary
This is another great tool only deal from Ryobi that performs well for the intended purpose. I also bought the high volume inflator and portable fan. All work flawlessly. Keep up with the nice and informative videos. Happy Father's Day weekend!
the fact that you have to hold the button down defeats the whole purpose of having a Air compressor no automatic shut off and you have to baby sit the thing is a NO for me .
I bought one of these and the digital psi gauge said I had 11lbs in my bike tire. I checked it with 2 other gauges and they both said 36lbs. Quite a difference.
I've had a few of the older but very similar versions of the Ryobi inflator and they both broke after not very much use. They are very cheaply built and in my experience do not last. Very much a "you get what you pay for" type of tool.
I just bought one a month ago it's horrible having to hold your finger for 5 to 10 minutes filling up tires, ridiculous that there's no preset button. I'm returning it back to Home Depot
i spent 15 pounds on one and it does my scooter tires too 50psi takes about 2 mins from flat , i would never spend 150 on that air thing. mine does all my tires am happy i fill them with sealant then am all good i only have too checkmy pressure every 6 months
My portable tire pump is on the fritz and I just clued in that Ryobi had something like this. Already have a Ryobi drill with a compatible battery so it is an obvious choice. All I need is something to top off tire pressures on my cars. This seems perfect. Thanks for the review.
My Ryobi fell apart on the inside after less than an hour of operation. (I only ever ran it for 1-4 minutes at a time, BTW.) I opened it up and reconnected the linkage to the pump, and it started working again. After about another cumulative 15 minutes of operation, the pump failed altogether. I saved the Adapter fittings to be spares for the Milwaukee inflator I bought to replace the Ryobi. Wish me luck.
the adapter that looked at on has a + & - contacts on the tower that goes into the tool now on a Ryobi battery there are 3 contact a + & - and one other not marked do you have any idea what that unmarked contact might be and why is not needed on the adapter?
I've owned mine for well over a year and it's accurate enough that I stopped checking it with another pressure gauge. I use this mostly for my motorcycle since I check the pressure everytime I ride.
Got one yesterday and the instructions say the duty cycle is for every 5 minutes on it needs 5 minutes off. The psi being off doesn't bother me. I only got it for my kids new bicycle...if I inflate both tires to the same psi then theres no problem. Not sure I would use it for my car tires, I have a bigger one for those.
Bought one doa, exchanged it and the second one would cut off constantly. The trigger would start cutting within a minute of initial use so I'd hope it wasn't overheating. Returned it, haven't had much luck with cheap Ryobi stuff (6" buffer/Inflator/Hybrid fan).
Great video! Already have 2 Ryobi batteries for my weed wacker, and thinking of adding this inflator to use with our campervan on trips, so I don't have to visit Discount Tire or Costcos to top up. Thanks!
Not a very good report. I doubt you even read the instructions. An absolute must if you plan to do an evaluation of any product. You totally overlooked and said nothing about the rules about duty cycle and the mandatory rest period needed so it can cool down. If you ran it for 9 minutes straight then you screwed up. It has a duty cycle and rest period. Not a very good job at all.
I bought one yesterday, and started reading about it. There were so many safety precautions that I was scared to use it. After watching your video, I feel much better about my purchase. I paid $59.00 for mine, battery, charger, and all from Home Depot. Thank you for easing my mind, plus showing me exactly how to use it. Also, it states that you do need to stop using it after 5 minutes, wait 5 minutes, then start again.
The 5 minute use/rest periouds, might not be true, depending on the outdoor temperature. I find my tires lose air the most when it's cold (-20 C). Cooler temps means, at least in my experience, no duty cycle limits.
