This game was actually what introduced me to James Bond. I remember talking with a kid on the playground on it and he asked if I had seen the movie and I said "woah, they made a movie based on the game!?"
Cyber Console wolf might not be but I’ve never heard of that game you mentioned so it must’ve been not too popular. Goldeneye is part of video game pop culture, that’s why it’s significant. It popularized FPS on console, and it’s where my love of FPS has stemmed from til this day.
You definitely CAN plan 00 Agent difficulty right off the bat. Just open a new save file, go to the first level, pick 00 Agent! Don't know why you thought you couldn't!
you absolutely can, but you need to beat each mission on 00 from the get go to play the others at that level, so beat dam at 00 unlocks 00 as a select for facility etc
There are 3 versions of this game, US, Japanese and Pal. Only the Japanese is easier because you get all the bodyarmors on 00 Agent. Pal is the most advanced / fixed, but also slower due to 50 hz. There are no revisions like US 1.1 or 1.2. There is also a "not for resale" kiosk display version, but those are generally the same as the retail version, sometimes without a save option (Donkey Kong Kiosk being an exception). You can find all the differences online :)
@@green7004 PAL isn't slower due to 50 HZ, it is nearly identical, infact some levels are even a tiny bit faster on PAL, the difference is microscopic.
People often laud this game for having an amazing multiplayer mode, but to me, what truly shines is the one-player mode and the soundtrack. Holy moly, what a soundtrack.
@@TheRealPOTUSDavidByrd It actually gets a lot better if you use the other control scheme that makes your movement 8 directional (using the c buttons), and then use the analog for the camera.
Every time I watch a video on Goldeneye, my mind immediately goes back to Friday night sleepovers. While I personally believe this game has aged poorly, there's no denying this was a game changer in the industry and I have a ton of great memories attached to this game.
Real talk: If you want the game to feel better by today's standards, CHANGE THE CONTROLS. There's a control option that lets you move with the d-pad and aim with the stick, so you hold the left and middle prongs of the controller. The game instantly becomes so much more intuitive. I only discovered this in like 2016, and if I had known about it back in the late 90s, I would have DOMINATED my friends every match.
1. I’m 99% sure a new save file has all three difficulties on Dam (the first level). 2. You can technically play Goldeneye in a double stick playstyle, plug in a controller into port 2, go into the options and head to the controller styles and shift to 2.X 3. Heavy bias, but I feel like the whole speed running the levels for cheats makes the game and controls more interesting because it becomes more technically demanding in an interesting and satisfying way. Memorizing level layout, objectives, and enemy spawns as well as good movement using the 1.X style makes getting the cheats super satisfying to pull off
Having done a "100% completionist" on this game myself back in the day I can say the speed running for cheats was kind of a mixed bag experience. For the most part they weren't too bad and I liked the challenge, but their were a few that were a doozy (Silver PP7, Invincibility). Some of them required more than just skill and knowing the level inside out to unlock. There was also an element of dumb luck involved, like Dr Doak or the Helicopter black box spawning at one particular location from a handful of possible randomized locations or Natalia's clunky AI to behave itself during escort missions.
I just started a new file recently and I was able to start with 00 agent. For controls I strongly recommend style 1.2 with your left hand on the dpad for movement and right hand on the stick for aiming like a modern shooter. The 2 controller styles are quite clunky in practice.
RobotMasterSplash I believe 2.2 is the setting you want for the closest control to a modern shooter layout, but I won’t disagree that it feels weird to play with. That being said, if your sticks are in good quality, 2.2 is fun to do. Also I’m baby and use 1.1 even while trying to learn speedrun strats XD
@@mrgameandmusic You really don't need analog for movement at all, it's just what we're all used to. That's why WASD isn't a weakness for PC fps players. 1.2 is just better in every regard.
2.2 would be closer to modern controls if they didnt put strafing on the right stick and turning on the left. 1.2 controls exactly like a modern shooter but with a d pad instead of a left stick.
My friend and I would tape a huge piece of cardboard across the screen, and one would sit under it... so we couldn't look at each other's screens. Classic game, still one of my favorites of all time.
Oh my god how me and my brother would absolutely RAGE on each other for looking at each others screens and insta-killing each other with rocket launchers. BLOOD WAS SHED.
We did that too! We had a whole rig for 4 players, too. Started it with goldeneye, continued into world is not enough. Last game we did it with was Halo 2.
Came to the comments to say this. Solitaire (1.2) is a conventional control scheme where you hold the two left prongs. The D-Pad moves your character, the joystick aims, and the Z-Button is your trigger. The left shoulder button also acts as a sort of “Aim Down Sights”. If people just used that scheme they wouldn’t complain. I hate that Honey (1.1) is the default because people are oblivious to the other options...
Whether it’s aged poorly or not there’s one indisputable fact. When it was new, we had never seen such realistic motion and environments like that on a console. Many of the sound effects were used in the Bond series so it felt like they took the films and gave them to you to play in! We could sneak around or go guns blazing! I was 20 when it came out and it was the first time I had to learn the consequences of your actions.
I've never even played the game, and I knew this. I actually came to the comments to make sure I didn't miss it. It's weird for him not to have researched the game. And is it really completed if you didn't try out every control method? At the very least, it could minimize the redundancy to try it with better controls. He even complains about the controls being a problem but didn't fix them to play like all the advanced players (and speedrunners) do.
@@ZipplyZane he plays the games as they are intended to be played lol and no a game being 100% completed has nothing to do with trying all the controls of a game (intended or otherwise) never has been.
@@anthonyrubel4057 Yeah, no. He literally plays a re-release or remake if it's available. And he definitely does not leave anything out. Also, just a word of advice--that weird lol in the middle of sentences that aren't jokes and aren't laughing at jokes usually tells people that you're trolling.
As much as I like Jirard, I agree that he doesn't do enough research. For example, giving David Wise and Grant Kirkhope most of the credits for Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair's OST, which is not exactly right. And saying that Grant composed a couple of tracks for A Hat in Time, whereas he composed only one song, which was used only in an unfinished beta level
I had no idea that was even an option. I always preferred the Solitaire control scheme, which regulated the C buttons to move forward/back/strafe and the control stick to aim, which is as close as you could get to a more modern control scheme, albeit as if designed for lefties, but it’s not hard to adjust to either.
The gunplay in this game is so satisfying, the way the bullets feel, the impact animations, the auto aim, and the lack of a crosshair make it a blast to play
This game did more to keep Bond relevant, than any of the other movies could outside of Casino Royale. This was a high school favorite. That and its successor Perfect Dark.
But....you can play 00 Agent right off the bat as long as thats the difficulty you start with. No need to play through on Secret Agent first. Also if you look in the options there is a way to play with two sticks, though you do need a second pad for that.
I wondered about that, I thought because I’d beaten the game years ago that I’d forgotten how it was when I first got it. But your explanation is correct, I just always beat the levels on 00 Agent first so I never notice it.
Not to be all high horse but I came to post that. Start Dam on 00 Agent and you can stay on that train. Also, valid point with the twin sticks but also it's not well known beyond the committed enthusiasts
@@DarrenGargette It's only "not well known" to people who are too lazy to check the damn options. 1.2 is a modern control style with one controller and it's always been sitting there, getting ignored by all the stupid people whining about the controls.
The different control schemes had their own advantages and disadvantages - dual controller got you double-analogue, but at the cost of slightly slower response time for some actions - tapping a c-button to sidestep gets you out of a bullet's path sooner than tilting an analogue stick does. And you haven't mastered the dual controller control scheme until you're using the prongs of one controller to press face buttons on the other...
@@arnox4554 well it's well documented that it was a spiritual successor to golden eye and stands to reason that they'd make improvements wherever they could. And they definitely did. Perfect Dark is still in my top 3 fave games of all time to this day. There's still things in that game that aren't in shooters of today.
I know he speaks from a completionist perspective, but when he talks about replaying being a bad time, I can't help but think of all the GE/Perfect Dark speedrunners wondering if he's sure about that. Although, I guess if you're only playing through it just to check all the boxes, it makes some sense.
Speedrunning is a very peculiar mindset, and a very niche interest. Almost nobody would even consider going through training for a speedrun. It would be masochistic to most people.
This was a great video Jirard. It was so good in fact, that I just went and purchased my childhood back (a N64 and about a dozen games). Thanks for that
Lol, before making my own comment, I had to scroll down to see if anyone suggested the Solitaire control scheme. It is superior to the default, for sure.
Ill never forget talking to all my friends at school about the kill animation where they slowly fall to their knees then fall face first onto the ground hahaha CLASSIC!
Me and my brother would fight over who got to be "Old Stogie" in multiplayer, which was one of the bad guys who had a black goatee and a scar over his eye.
Nice dude! We would do Proximity Mines only. Some of the most terrify and thrilling gameplay I've experienced in my life. Knowing every turn around a corner could end in a massive explosion made some great memories I won't forget with my brother. My best friend growing up loved Golden Gun only and it was also some intense battles.
One of my favourite games of all time. Up there with Super Mario World, Metal Gear Solid, Donkey Kong Country 2, FF7 and 8, and Ocarina of time. Love the video. 👍
One of my favorite memories of playing Golden Eye was the lack of animation for crouch-walking in multiplayer. Me and all my mates scooting around like vacuum cleaners and smacking the shyt out of each other!! So many laughs! Also, Rockets and proximity mines on complex and all the hidden vents. Damn man, we honestly didn't know how good we really had it.
My good man, I literally just played this with my childhood friend in his parents garage as he visited our town just a few days ago. The only complaint I had the entire time was how fidgety it felt to aim at my enemies. But then we broke out perfect dark and it felt sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
This was the first game I ever owned on the N64 when I was about 12 years old. I was obsessed with it and knew the game inside and out. Then I was introduced to the actual movie and I remember being a kid seeing the opening scene of Bond running to the Bungie jumping pad to infiltrate the facility and I was blown away. It was such a big deal to me. I wanted to be James Bond more than anything. Such a heavy dose of nostaligia.
Give the controls another shot on the 2.0 settings, you literally use two controllers to get real dual analog sticks! Those guys were forward thinkers.
@@paulmoore5392 I never said it was necessary. Playing with a single controller works fine. You can even use the d-pad to move and the stick to look in one of the settings if you really hate the default controls so much. Do you really have nothing better to do than to fish for arguments about a game you seem to know nothing about? Do you even like the show or are you just here to get mad at people?
TheGershon Funny how you assume I know nothing about this game or am just here to get mad at people. I actually grew up with this game, played it a ton both in single player and multiplayer as a child. I loved this game as a kid. However, this is one of the worst aging games for that era. Before you make unfounded judgements once again about me, assuming I’m posting opinions about a game I know nothing about or even questioning my liking of this show and my intentions for posting an opinion opposite to yours, I still go back and play Mario 64, Ocarina Of Time, Majora’s Mask, Pokemon Stadium 1, 2 , Snap, Banjo Kazooie and DK64 among others and still have a great time, so it has nothing to do with me no being able to enjoy older games. You shouldn’t have to switch your controls around to other setttings to make this game playable and the last time I played this game was a only about 2-3 years ago in multiplayer and it was a miserable time. I do have to ask, do you make these unfounded outlandish assumptions about everybody whenever they have an opinion opposite to yours? Not the best way to deal with others
Playing the game with 1 controller works better because when you have movement mapped to the analog stick you get tank controls, whereas if you use the d-pad for movement you strafe instead of turn when pressing left or right, which is much closer to modern controls.
This game brings back many fun memories of sleepless nights with friends and even playing with paintball, big head mode was classic. Goldeneye was absolutely a revolutionary game and this video definitely brought back good memories.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the dual control scheme, it allowed the use of 2 controllers . one to move and one to aim. Personally thought it was revolutionary. surprisingly not many people new about it
This is literally what I came here to say. Really changes the game. And it's also so weird to play a game with two controllers. Almost like a predecessor to the wiimote nunchuk combo.
@@brxqz51 LOL I used the default control scheme for 20 years. Then I got into the modding Community for the game and started playing on emulator using a PS4 controller. If the N64 just had a better control stick, similar to the one on the analog PS1 controllers, the game would have felt smooth as butter back in 97.
While I think the game shows its age with the single player experience, the multiplayer is just as fun as it was in 1997. Even today, my friends who have never played on an N64 before can learn the controls quickly and have a blast playing this classic.
I have no knowledge on this game, but my dad said that he absolutely loved this game growing up, he said that him and his friend would play it when they were on breaks when they worked at a movie theater, he said he would play this gane nonstop with his friends when he was a kid. He recently found the cartridge and were waiting for a better time to start playing it.
Great video as usual, but you didn't have to play the game through 3 times to 100% it. You can actually just start the game on 00 Agent and play through on that difficulty, then go back and unlock the cheats on lower difficulties.
Pretty great appraisal, though it's a pity you didn't notice the biggest reason to play on each difficulty: With each increase in the challenge comes added objectives. What seemed like a simple 'find the exit' level on Agent turns into a MUCH more complicated set of objectives in 00 Agent. THAT is why you go back and play the higher difficulties. Well, that and unlocking the bonus levels...
A very fair assessment. It hasn't aged well, and it would be impossible to do so after nearly 26 years, but it remains a masterpiece of pushing the N64 hardware and setting out new standards for FPS's. All of this on just a 96-megabit cartridge (12MB in real money). The credits on today's games read like a block buster film, but this was done by a small team who made up the rules as they went along, and it remains a quality product to this day.
Oh god the memories with this game. The multiplayer is what I really remember of it. Me,my dad, my uncle and my family would have multiplayer duels. If you memorize the maps so well that you can cheat and look at someone else’s screen and go to there location. Picked it up a few weeks ago again and I can say it hasn’t aged well I agree. But it’s still just as fun as today’s shooters
I don't know. When he says Goldeneye "still holds up today against the FPS juggernauts", that made him lose a lot of credibility in my eyes. Even during that DECADE, Goldeneye was made worse than redundant through Perfect Dark. And then there's Halo and Timesplitters and Half-Life. No, I'm sorry. Goldeneye was indeed very important for console shooters, but it HAS aged badly (except the OST), is not relevant anymore, and it hasn't even been relevant since the release of Perfect Dark. It's a harsh thing to say, but Rare was just that good. They weren't content with revolutionizing things once with GE. They polished it to a shine and then added even more with PD.
I would say sure the game may have aged badly and sure other games did it better later, but that should not be counted against this game. Most games from the 3D 64-bit era have aged badly. Most multi-player games have aged badly. At the time, this was a game everyone had because it was amazing. Now, it’s a game everyone has because it was important to game history.
@@coreymyers5321 If a game has aged badly, it's usually because there's something else more recent that does what it does but better. There are some old games like Goldeneye that were very important but have aged badly, and then there are old games like Jedi Academy where even today, what they do has not really been captured as well or even at all in any other game.
@Arnox Immordium Fair point. But not every game can or wants to be better than another. Sometimes, a great old game is still a great game, even if it old. I know people who still swear that the original Smash Bros. is the best fighting game ever, even after playing Ultimate. I like Smash, but nothing beats 8-player choas and fun that is Ultimate.
@@coreymyers5321 Well, that's because the OG SSB has a style and gameplay feel to it that none of the other SSBs have. In this particular case though, why would anyone play Goldeneye over Perfect Dark besides sheer nostalgia? Or, going further up the chain, Timesplitters 3?
I remember beating Control on 007 mode in the speed run time on Friday the 13th back on the 90's. I yelled out I am invincible! It was one of the most frustrating levels of all games.
@@libertyprime619 not on the N64 and earlier consoles it wasn't. This wasn't the Switch or 3DS eras, back then everything was indeed stored on the cartridge and NOT the system, a feature achieved through the use of a built in Lithium battery, a practice that had been in use as far back as the NES era. This is why you could take your Pokemon Snap cart to Blockbuster and print out your favorite pictures back then, and you could take your Ocarina of Time save file that you played on one system and play it on another. Meanwhile, another James Bond licensed game, The World is Not Enough, required you to have a memory card (remember those?) plugged into the back of your N64 controller to save your game due to how it built upon some features from GoldenEye and added others like voice acting and more features from the Watch. Of course Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (either 1 or 2) also had saves stored on the memory card, and in both cases it was entirely because of size limitations.
Youre right, the music is excellent and memorable. Everytime you picked a new one as BGM for the vid I could instantly remember from which level it was. Great work Jirard
Man, that was great! I love to see older games on the channel, what a classic! Oh, and yes this is how we decided who was going to host the sleepovers, who has X game? ok, we will sleep at your place and bring snacks lol.
personally i use the solitaire control scheme, its similar to modern fps games, with the dpad being movement, and the analog stick being look, with the triggers and a/b buttons being aim, fire, reload, and weapon switch respectably. it works alot better than the default control scheme
13:50 "there's no check mark/trophy to show I completed the time trials." well, not on the level select screen, but for Goldeneye the trophies ARE the cheats on the cheat screen. That's the display case. And saying "what's frustrating is you don't have to complete the time trials to unlock the cheats! you can just unlock the cheat codes!" what, like, you can unlock them with game shark codes or something? that's not a criticism specific to this game. You could say that about ANY part of ANY game. "I'm frustrated because I COULD just skip everything by putting in a code." what kind of criticism is that? "there's no reason to do the time trials other than 'i had to.'" what? that's true of everything in every game ever. I just don't understand this. If you just don't ENJOY the process of getting the cheat codes, then that's not a fault of the game. Normally i'd just say not to do it then. But obviously that's the name of this series, but saying it as a criticism is weird, "the game is at fault because it made me do something I didn't enjoy." no it didn't? .. just don't do it then? the point of time trials in games like this is to unlock new stuff. what else do you want to make them "worth it"? the reason I do the time trials is because it's the most exciting thing ever to crit path and get that time down. it feels great to have done it. the reward doesn't need to be much for me. they could even take away the cheats themselves. as long as you get the cool end screen and sound effect, it's worth it to me. obviously a cool trophy case or gussied up level select screen somehow would be cool, but not needed.
Yeah, that really confused me. It made me think he got a busted copy, or something. You can't just unlock them without doing the time trials. It's why I had to resort to using Game Shark to get the invincibility cheat, haha.
I had a dream today of the game arena me and my nephew wanna open and we intend to have the classic N64 games for all generation to play. But we did have our doubts. But after seeing this video and the love in the comment section for this game and the games i grew up with I have no doubt remaining. Love the video man!
Oh dear God. Jirard I take my hat off to you. Aztec is considered by many to be one of the hardest levels in any FPS. You’re an absolute madman and I salute you. Also who’s your favourite James Bond? Brosnan? Maybe Craig? Connery perhaps?
Remember playing the split screen multiplayer with my friends, brother and dad back in the day. We played that game more than prolly any other game beside super smash. Definitely iconic if you were a 90s kid.
I think back in the day, playing this game through 3 times to unlock all difficulties was in no way a chore. I remember in 97/98 having this game and playing it at every waking moment, and I probably went to bed dreaming of getting up and playing some more. When you're not just going for a completion, like in this video, good vid as always BTW, you had an N64 and this was probably one of the only games you had as a kid/teen and so it didn't matter how many times you had to play it because every moment was a joy and as maybe your only game at the time you wanted to squeeze every single drop out of it possible. Something I kind of wish I could do now as my massive multi-console backlog stares at me longingly.
Heeeeeeeey!!! Awesome video! But you are complete wrong about how many times you have to play it!! You can do it in 00 agent and complete the game in you first play! You just have to play 00 agent directly, and it will complete the agent and secret agent as soon as you pass the level in the hardest dificult! Believe, I know what I'm talking, do the test! Thumbs up for him.
I had nearly forgotten, just how much fun this game is, and how much I love it! For the longest time, I mainly just had access to my brother's copy. He got it the year it came out, and shortly after getting it, we saw the film as well, and we became instant Bond fans. Anyway, around 2003 or so, he sold all his old games, and I was borrowing this one at the time (among a few others), and he told me to keep the ones I had borrowed. Well, back in 2018, he started collecting retro games, and bought an N64, so I gave him back all the ones I borrowed. I just got my own copy of this in the mail earlier today, and I already have died on OO Agent Dam twice! I finally got it done on the 3rd try, and taking a break from the game until tomorrow!
Now THIS and DK64 were the games I would play on my uncles N64 whenever I would go over to his place while my parents were at work. I love this game and never knew what was unlock-able or not so I’m hyped for your video
I thank this game (and my dad) for introducing me to James Bond. Goldeneye was my first Bond film and I watched many other great ones since then (Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre, Live and Let Die, and Moonraker)
2/3 of perfect darks campaign with the ULTIMATE battle sim, and multiplayer polish makes perfect dark the better option imo. However, goldeneyes missions were all good to.
Playing the game on PC with mouse and keyboard through the 1964 Emulator really game me a new appreciation of the game. I always said the game aged poorly, but now I really don’t think it did. The controls definitely aged terribly, but that sense of discovery and espionage action really rang true even today.
The best controls for GoldenEye: Auto-Aim. Also, most of the guards are at eye level with you anyway, so you don't really need to use that R aim that much really.
I have a ton of admiration for your skill level. Goldeneye took me months of frustration, sweat and tears. Especially the dreaded Control level. It’s quite a Herculean task. Really enjoyed the video bought back lots of memories!
@@KRASHPROJECT Golden Eye is overrated! Yes, game introduced cinematic story telling and has cool split screen multiplayer, but otherwise is was behind standard of PC shooters and in two years it was overshadowed with Half-Life and System Shock 2. Thing is that most praise is just nostalgia.
Eh depends on when you were born the majority of people In college right now have nostalgia for halo and mw2, kids younger than that will have nostalgia for fortnite, time to accept it’s not super Mario bros 2 game of the year every year
Absolutely spot on with regards to the music and sound design. I've heard the silenced PP7 in countless other pieces of media and I can still heard the sound of an automatic door opening in my head to this day.
Loved this video. I have to tell you as an older millennial who learned FPS on this game the controls feel natural to me. I missed Halo, CoD, CS, and most of the other FPS that came later. I was having kids, working, paying rent and trying to get a decent job. Today I have a switch, PS5, and a large catalog of Steam games. When I play CoD I use 'Legacy' joystick layout. Back in the day I played Goldeneye with the two controller setup, one controller and one joystick in each hand. To me, and I all the others out there who I have to believe are like me, the controls are not only natural but comforting and familiar. I have completely decimated both of my teenage children in Switch Goldeneye with the N64 controller. It feels amazing. Showing up my Cod and CS loving teens in the FPS of my day, head shots, handicaps, and occasional intentional suicides to make it "fair", in Goldeneye have allowed me to show my kids I'm not just a happless noob. I and my partner were the first place finishers in the 007 tournament hosted by my University my freshman year. At every house party there was always a house Goldeneye champ. I still remember schooling one of those house "champs" drunk, one eye closed, and drinking straight out of a bottle of Captain Morgan. I know, and understand really I do, that the controls are awkward and weird to you. However, these were the controls of the time and for those like me the muscle memory comes flooding back as soon as we strafe with the right stick and turn with the right... and in this game we still dominate and it feels amazing!
One of the games that I have many fond memories of playing in my childhood, Goldeneye 007 and Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask were my favorites back then, still are near the top of my list today. And YES! The sound design and music were awesome in Goldeneye! The soundtrack is probably the most iconic aspect of the game, I love it so much.
Man I wish there was a Goldeneye on Switch. I love playing couch multiplayer, and the Switch (in docked mode) would be perfect for that sort of 4 player split-screen.
16:28 Oh but you can know! Enter each level and quit, you'll see best time and target time. I'm really proud of my invincibility and invisibility codes. Definitely some of the hardest gaming achievements of all time.
Anyone else around 13 yrs old when this came out? "Bond tourny tonight"? That was a commonly said phrase throughout my 8th grade years. Also. Glad he brought up the music. Nothing got you pumped more than the Frigate or Antenna dish level music.
Doing the time trials to unlock the cheats was probably my first ever motivation to speedrun inside a game and it was awesome back then considering it was all I had for an FPS experience and wanted to make the multiplayer even more awesome. Some of those time trials are insanely difficult but you do get better over time, however it's understandable that doing it today after experiencing so much better controls and you'll likely never play it again that there isn't much value in it. I must have spent literally thousands of hours in Goldeneye though, Rare knows how to make extremely fun games and everything they made on the N64 is gold.
as a fan of the movies I appreciate this game especially for all the references and as a fan of this channel I appreciate the defense of this game for all the road it paved for fps games
Some of the developers who worked on goldeneye went on to make Timesplitters. If you liked Goldeneye than I highly recommend Timesplitters it’s one of my favorite game series ever
The controls are greatly improved by using control style 1.2 in the left hand position, using the dpad to move and analog to aim like a more modern setup.
I just wanna say that working toward the cheats in this game is one of the most satisfying and awesome experiences I've had in games. and in perfect dark. it's about learning the missions inside and out and acting like your previous runs on different difficulties, were intel gathering for the REAL level, which is getting the cheats. learning enemy placements, etc. it DOES suck how there are random elements like Dr. Doak's placement. I'm not a speed runner, but getting the cheats in this game and perfect dark made me appreciate speed runners and see why they love it. I'd recommend the experience if you are a methodical person who wants to learn things inside and out.
One of my favorite games. 007 mode with 100% accuracy and damage but 1% health on all enemies is a blast on the stealthier missions. This, Perfect Dark and Mario Kart were central to any holiday or weekend with my cousins. I even still own these games to this day.
Goldeneye doesn’t get enough praise for its level design. Compared to today’s linear shooters, the objective based structure and realistic building layouts are a breath of fresh air. I wish to god more FPSes would bring this style back.
