Mario Kart Double Dash created one of the best couch co-op mechanics that the Mario Kart series has ever seen. Instead of picking customized karts and racing against your friends, you two share the same vehicle and work together as a team to take down enemies and claim that trophy. Well, i'm one of these people. Great game, but i prefer Mario Kart on the N64. Maybe it's just nostalgia. But Double Dash does not click right with me. I've played it a lot, but it get's stale with me :l 64 does just CLICK right with me.

I feel like most people love Double Dash to be fair. I like it, but it’s not my favourite in the series (it sits somewhat in the middle for me). Whenever I tell people that, I’m often met with “WHAT? MKDD is so good wtf?” 😆

What makes the second driver feel all the more satisfying is how animated they are. How they lean into turns, how they bounce when the road gets bumpy, it makes driving feel a lot more energetic.

I played this game a lot with my older brother back when we were kids. We disagreed with stuff, but we could play this game perfectly. He passed away back in November, so seeing this review opened the floodgate of memories I had with him playing Double Dash. I would enjoy a remake, even if it'd never be the same without my brother.

@@hepwo91222 everyone and their mom would like to have a word with you, wii is praised so hard, so many people still play it today, people made their own server when wii online went down. It's called CTGP. It was so much fun because it was very technical, Lakitu doesn't take you out every time you are of the track which caused for so many cool shortcuts, you should look up Mario kart wii short cuts, of course the really broken ultra shortcuts you aren't able to do online. The only thing bad about it is that the inside drifting bikes are by far the best, karts and outside drifting bikes are complete garbage

I have some of my best memories with this game when my friends would bring their GameCubes and CRT TVs and we would have a LAN parties with 16 of us across 4 consoles

The two player on a kart mechanic, even as a secondary mode, and unlockables for every cup and class should really come back in the next installment of the Mario Kart series. Oh, and character specific special items, too, to differentiate them more, one of the good features that returned, for now, only in Mario Kart Tour.

Vs mode, frantic items, baby park, 4 separate players, one player takes each of Bowser, Bowser Jr, Petey pirahna, and king boo in the back. Try to get as many Bowser shells as possible flying around. The absolute best way to play.

Hey Jirard, try playing "Songs For A Hero". It's a 2D platformer that the protagonist sings everything you do and do a lot of jokes. It's really fun to play it, and it's not very hard to complete it. It's just an awesome game that needs more love

Double Dash is my favorite in the series And it holds a special place in my heart This was the first game I was ever able to play with my little brother at such a young age I would be baby Mario and he would be baby Luigi And I would always drive and he would always use items Cause at such a young age all he knew what to do was press random buttons lol Even years later me being 21 and my brother being 18 now we still enjoy this and play it as we did all those years ago I’ll be it better then when we were so little

Double Dash is still my favorite Mario Kart period. It strokes a really good balance with the speed and just sheer chaos that breaks out. Also it introduced the Baby Park course, the cruicible that forges racers into warriors.

the couch co-op fun i had back in the day with friends with this one was definitely some of the fondest memories in gaming for me. I've always loved the double racers and character specific special items. It gave meaning and strategy to who you selected other than weight.

By far my favorite Mario kart game. I've never had as much fun with any other Mario kart game before (Mario kart DS got close though). This game will always have a special place in my heart.

You know.... the tank idea isn't bad at all! Imagine, 1 Player controls the speed and direction the tank is moving in, 1 Player shoots the other players, 1 player can load up special ammunition, maybe by completing a short minigame together with the shooter. And maybe the 4th player has a special radar and can direct other players to special items oder tell them where the other tanks are on the map. I kinda like that idea a lot :)

Funny thing is, I've never once had the opportunity to play multiplayer co-op Double Dash, and yet it is still my favorite Mario Kart game by far. The tag team characters, weight class system, exclusive special items, and nearly-universal carts all came together to give it a unique feeling that I haven't found in any other Mario Kart - even in single-player mode. ❤️

This game also introduced the ability to strategize with weapons. With 2 interchangeable weapons you can get offensive and defensive weapons. If your in first you can keep your position by holding a banana peel, bad item block, or green shell to block incoming shells. If your behind then you can favor offensive weapons like shells. The ability to swap and store weapons meant you could get to first and plan to keep it.

I think this was my favorite mario kart game as well. My favorite was seeing a unique weapon for every character, and seeing Petey Piranha as a playable character. I was wary of the 2 characters per kart when I got it, but when I played, I had so much fun all the way through.

While i grew up with the gamecube and played this for nearly three years straight, i still get war flashbacks from unlocking the final cart on the highest difficulty. I only managed to do it with baby mario and baby bowser and it made me cry numerous times, because i got second place and had to do it all over again.

I love seeing this game get the recognition it deserves! Xavier Woods participating makes the video that much better. Not only is Double Dash the best Mario Kart game, it is also the most underrated. In my nearly 35 years of playing video games, the only time I became disenchanted was following the death of the Dreamcast. Picking up the GameCube Zelda Collector's Edition bundle and a copy of Double Dash reinvigorated my love for gaming and it's been going strong ever since. Thank you for making this video!

the dual characters gameplay is often hilighted as this game's best feature [it is the titular mechanic after all] but the character specific items were the icing on that, it added a layer of depth that other mario karts miss out on [amongst the ones i have played] where the characters you chose actually mattered beyond their weight class or minor stat differences, picking a pair who's specials worked well together and suited your playstyle felt important.

The Gamecube has the best entries of every series. New stuff has more bells and whistles, but the Gamecube is where it's at, Mario Kart, Party, Golf, Tennis, Strikers, Mario Sunshine, Smash, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario etc.

I agree with them on what they said in this. Double Dash was the Mario game that not only introduced me to the Mario Kart franchise, but the Super Mario franchise in general when I was a little kid.

The blue sparks of a drift turning into a mini-turbo. Proof that Pacific Rim was onto something when they say two people in perfect sync are "Drift Compatible". Also, I had Charles Martinet autograph my copy of this!

my very first videogame that i got at age 5 for christmas along with mario sunshine and a gamecube, boy those were good times and i still play them regularly, cant beat the classics

Completing this game with a friend is both much more enjoyable as well as easier than doing so alone. 35 hours of playtime just scratches the surface if you don't know anyone who can play DD.
