Gurupoornima 2024 - Discourse based on Bhagavad Gita & Srimad Bhagavatam
#bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam
In these series of talks, Ma discusses devotion and what the characteristics of a true devotee are. She explains that Bhakti or devotion is that state of mind, where the mind automatically turns towards the Supreme and gets firmly established there, without any motivation or expectation, like the river which flows into the ocean unhindered by anything on the way.
A devotee must have an aspiration to have one-pointed, wholesome, steady and pure devotion. A true devotee must give up attachment to the body, which is made of bones, flesh and blood, renounce possessiveness and clinging to family and wealth and establish the mind in the changeless substratum, the Consciousness.
In Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna says that a true devotee must have virtues and refinements which endear him to the others and to the Lord. Being free of hatred, he must be friendly and compassionate towards all beings. He must be free of possessiveness and egoism (Ahankara) and should be equal to sukha and duhkha and practice forbearance.
The devotee must always remain contented and inwardly integrated, with the senses and mind well-disciplined. Endowed with a firm resolve and conviction, his mind and intelligence must be fully established in the Supreme Lord. Sri Krishna says that such a devotee is most dear to him.
Ma says that a spiritual aspirant must introspect on the qualities enumerated in the Bhagavad Gita, and strive to cultivate the qualities.
