These guys weren’t the best musicians in the world but damn, they knew how to put on a show and the music was solid, old school rock and roll. I loved the old Kiss. Grew up with it. They ruled the planet for a good 3 years. I damn sure miss it!!
And they had some heavy tunes as well. She, parasite, 100 000 year. I could go on. They were solid players, but Paul Stanley was a great singer and frontman.
The Destroyer outfits were always my favorite but I think KISS looks the most "Clean, Polished and Professional" in these Love Gun Outfits. This is KISS at their absolute best and at the top of the mountain.....and this is how they will be remembered!
At their best period. This is when I was a little kid, outside Washington, DC, and loved KISS. I had stacks of their bubble gum cards, I got the colorforms and lunchbox - I even had a few action figures!
Same here, my best Christmas present is Alive 2, and a 5 ft long live Gene Simmons poster, I got to meet Gene in 92 accidentally, and told him ,meeting you and shaking your hand just made a childhood dream come true, he said no problem, after I accidentally pushed aside Shannon Tweed, gosh what a moron I was, she was very sweet and understanding,
My first KISS concert! I was 9 and they set the roof of the arena on fire with pyrotechnics they were band from playing there for 20 years they didn’t play that arena again till the 2000s farewell tour And that show started a hour late because of the fire marshal inspection!
Picture perfect, what an outstanding job you did with this! Thanks on behalf of the Kiss Army worldwide.❤ Nothing can beat Kiss on top of their game in the seventies(imho).
OUTSTANDING QUALITY!!! THANK YOU!!! I would love to see some old Van Halen (DLR Era) shows upscaled. I'd be willing to supply the video and pay for your time.
it's even a bit better imo than the improved remastered early 2000s KISSTORY vol.1 & 2 releases though not sure by how much. Image quality here is outstanding!
This is absolutely killer. You did an outstanding job. I completely love this. KISS rules forever. This is like if an official live DVD from back then was made! I love it. This is pure magic. The best quality ever audio and video.
Whoever transferred, color corrected, color depth and mixed the audio did a superb job. The original film must have been in pristine condition. The audio almost sounds too good to be real. If the audio was from a two track master, the original recording engineer must have had a second mixing desk for live mixing to stereo, because it’s so well balanced. If not, then bravo.
Please read the description. The audio was painstakingly recreated using several different sources including the original show. The original is just a very poorly mixed mono soundboard feed and even using instrument isolation the drums sound like tin cans and the vocals are pretty distorted (and the bass is nearly inaudible). This was my attempt to create an “official quality” soundtrack for this show/tour. As for the video, I spent several weeks upscaling and color correcting it shot by shot but the source is the same as most of the newer versions you’ll find on YT. I also re-edited it using an alternate-angle source which has some different shots of some of the show.
Watching the whole show on my TV with the surround sound.. and I'm thinking. "This would be awesome as hell if this was on a vhs with the alive II cover.." imagine if back in the day if this was released in this quality on home video after the alive II album came out. Say 4 or 5 months after.. would have been insane
So basically you're just doing EXACTLYYYYY what KISS has been doing for years right???Making them sound way better than wtf they actually doooo!!!It's cool seeing the old footage cuz they ruled the world in the 70's when i was a kid so I'm thankful to see the live footage but it's a shame that Rock & Metal have turned to faking it live!!I've been to so many concerts it's crazy & I'm blessed to say I never saw any band faking it especially seeing SLAYER live 9 times and the almighty original Black Sabbath & Judas Priest!!Never did get to see KISS & hate I missed seeing them in their Prime but thanks for posting!!
Haha. Well, that’s an overstatement, but yes. There are dozens of live recordings of KISS from the 70s and they actually sound far better than what we hear on those bootleg videos that were recorded directly through the soundboard. Yes, Ace flubs a chord or a couple notes here or there and there is sometimes a little bit of slot from them jamming around so much but all in all kids were very tight and great live rock ‘n’ roll band. The only reason I replaced vocals on this particular show is because the sound quality of the original is so distorted, I wanted this to be closer to an official release like Alive II only on video. They actually sing very well live but with no compression or room ambience on the vocals, tin can sounding drum mix, thin guitars, and everything else that comes from a direct from the soundboard Recording it is hard to sound powerful under those circumstances. If you watch my Winterland concert virtually all the vocals are directly from the show. I am also working on Houston 77 and all of those vocals will be live as well. If you listen to the audio recording from the LA forum 1977 it sounds basically exactly like alive too With only a few vocal parts slightly different. The Alive! Outtakes and bootlegs from that time also match the album almost perfectly. The main reason KISS and most bands re-recorded so much stuff for live albums was just for consistency and for better quality, not because they couldn’t play. But I’m glad you like it . 👍🏻
I would like to pay my greatest kudos to you for your feat. I have been a Kiss fan for nearly 50 years, but was not happy with the poor sound of the snare drum on the 77-78 love gun tour, as it was so thin and flimsy compared to the thick and massive snare sound of 76-77 RRO tour. In this restored video&audio, of course, the images are really beautiful and precise, and the sound of the drums, vocals, guitars, and bass are wonderful and more than enough for an immersive viewing experience !!
This remastered Largo footage and the Winterland concert has made me fall in love all over again with my favorite band. Thank you so much for doing this !!! If there is any way I could get these concerts on blu ray or dvd from you that would be a dream come true !
Thanks! I stopped making it easy for bootleggers to sell copies on eBay by authoring disc versions, but you can download the uncompressed files here if you khow to burn them yourself… Largo ‘77 drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lnt9Io2FXynoPwAuFr0lvcKzdDOFmf8n Winterland ‘75 drive.google.com/drive/folders/1unO6wr3vbLcajOlHZ39g3akzG1Lesg9e My Phantom edit… drive.google.com/drive/folders/1K_JISQwIpfyIUOoS0jBhJn30wig254Cv
@@jeffhodge7272 the HBO show was from Tokyo 1977 on the RARO tour. That was also recorded for an abandoned single-LP that was never released. They decided they needed more new material so held off and recorded the the LA forum shows from the Love Gun Tour. Some of the Tokyo songs were used for Alive II along with some of the forum songs (or soundchecks, etc). I am working on a version of that Tokyo show (only 1 hour was shown on HBO and there was an afternoon and evening show recorded). I am working on a version that combines both shows with the audio re-done similar to this show. You can look for “the lost alive II” if you want to hear what was supposed to be that Japan-only 2nd live album.
Bloody amazing. Like some others might be I'm a little torn between the two as I love the raw and real early Kiss by you've kept a lot of little details from the show which is great. Audience and soundboard recordings never do justice to what was heard in the room. This is as close as we'll get. Well done! Maybe a little less replacing of things and enhancing what was recorded is the only thing I'd hope for but probably impossible since it's so badly recorded to begin with! Sydney 1980 would be awesome done like this! My fav tour for some reason. Last with Ace and with Eric dominating the drums! They were great that tour!
Thanks! Largo has awful sound quality, so it had to have much more like vocals replaced to get the sound I wanted. Winterland is coming soon and I am also working om Sydney ‘80, Tokyo and Houston ‘77. Those will all feature original vocals, solos, etc. but with cleaned up audio (or replaced with identical playing). My goal with this show was to create a “visual” version of ALIVE II. The others will sound as good, but will be more true to the actual shows.
@wiseacre264 You're insane! And amazing! Looking forward to all those! Wow. I'm curious with say the Sydney show how you'll do it. Their sound changed a bit that tour and no official recordings to go off really. Plus I'm sure you're aware of the differences in tracks that they touched up for it etc. Detroit Rock City is polished with vocal over dubs etc and then cold gin and strutter are raw. Shandi back to polished etc. If you can nail that show it would be incredible! And all good with the visual alive II. Still watching in the listening room!
@@ashleyspurrell I basically used Eric’s isolated drums as a base “room” sound for his kit. Then I created samples of Eric’s drums and replaced the kicks/snare and cymbals. I also enhance all of his fills. I did the same for the Fridays appearance which I will be posting soon. The Sydney audio is all Ace’s guitar for the most part, so I have isolated that for his solos and most of his other parts. Gene’s bass will be from the show with some grit added to sound like his live tone. Paul’s guitar parts on older songs will be sourced from other places but will match his playing. Virtually all of the vocals will be from the real show. I have a bunch of it finished already. Many of of those songs will be recycled for the “Lost Alive III” audio album I am making. Along with the Fridays songs and a few other things (some real and some not), I am creating my fantasy “what if” concert/album for the Elder Tour that never happened. That could have been a 3rd live album with the G/P/A/E lineup. Pure fantasy but it will be pretty epic.
@wiseacre264 sounds great! Yeah you're right. Paul's guitar was non existent mostly. You might be able to salvage it from shandi. There might be another song or two. But looking forward to all you're doing!
