Yup, those were about the ONLY good things about the movie … though I’ll admit, it was pretty cool to see the actual Phantom Zone itself for a change! 🤩🤩😎
I was obsessed with this film growing up, and the amazing score that hits a well of nostalgia every time. It's such an emotive piece of music that lifts the heart and tells a triumphant, romantic and thrilling story.
Another winner for Jerry G. Gotta love the scores that were recorded in London in the late 70s-80s. Eric Tomlinson engineered this one; sounds like my hero Maurice Murphy leading the brass; almost zero doubt there. Lead trumpet machismo all over, no blending here, all beef.
"...and now ladies and gentlemen, presenting for the first time ever. She's Superman cousin. She's strong, she's beautiful and she's here on stage tonight. Presenting The Girl of Steel, SUPERGIRL!"
OMG is this theme amazing! I just want to jump up and down on my bed and fight stuff! It's so triumphant! Great work Jerry! Btw. RIP Jerry Goldsmith, your great music will never be forgotten
I don't know -- the score is pretty special. Regardless, the Supergirl theme is absolutely Top Tier. I prefer it to Superman's and probably would rank the Supergirl theme as the best-ever one for a cinematic superhero.
You can tell Goldsmith composed the music for the 'Star Trek' movies - this could be one of the main themes for the next USS Enterprise! Still, a cracking piece of music and perfect alongside John Williams for our Kryptonian superheroes. Love it.
Fun Fact: This could have been the theme to Superman. The composer, Jerry Goldsmith was approached about scoring Superman but was unavailable because he had already signed on to do Star Trek TMP. So the job went to John Williams.
I remember binging on this movie as a kid on VHS while eating breakfast every morning. I didn't know the concept of cheesy or corny back then but I love the movie to death. Looking back now, yeah, the movie was pretty tacky. But hey, you can't argue with nostalgia that you grow up with.
I liked how they had Jimmy Olson in this and made references to Superman throughout the movie, would've been cooler if they had Superman appear at the end battle perhaps, "Alright Selena the game's over". Or Serena, I forget, it's been so long since I've seen this movie.
i find it funny how everybody and i do mean everybody, can piss so hard on this movie but like it's score. the movie is great, it has it's problems but what movie doesn't. the score is genius by the way. and i'm sick of everyone saying oh the movie was so bad it's good but helen slater was at least hot, it's like dude get a life , yeah she's pretty but she's fearless, strong and not just a pretty face alright.
@@JessicaChastainFan Plus a passing of the torch moment between Helen’s Kara, and Melissa’s Kara even if Helen’s Kara gets killed in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
@@bryanismyname7583 Yeah, but she was the first Supergirl she could have had a passing the torch moment with Melissa’s Kara like with John’s Barry passing the torch to Grant’s Barry.
Tom Lord It's funny we could play the Superman theme when Christopher Reeve guest starred on Smallville. But whenever Helen Slater guests stars on Supergirl...not likely. And that's just wrong.
I don't care when people say I love this film I love this music score and I love this film and I love Helen and I love Helen and I love Helen and I love the snow and I love this film and I love Helen and I love this music and I love this music and I love Helen I love the snow I love this film I will never stop loving this film I'm sorry this is a masterpiece you guys just don't get it you guys just need to watch it and I better contacts or something I don't know maybe f*** if you hear from your eyes I was a masterpiece just like Richard films and it deserves recognition among cinema-goers it deserves recognition among Cinema and it is I love this film
The music, awesome. The writers of the movie should of been arrested for cocaine use! IF the movie had been as good as the music- there could of been three more of them! fuck!
I really wish Helen Slater had done something with Shelley Hack,Lea Thompson,Daphne Zuniga,Amy Steel,Barbara Carrera,Tanya Roberts,Mariel Hemingway,Patricia Charbonneau,and Helen Shaver.What a movie that could've been.
@@stewartkingsley i think superman/clark kent should have been her mentor how to be a better super hero and she could have told him more about kryptonian people..
Well it was in the original screenplay..Supergirl and Superman with Chris Reeve, but after reading Supergirls screenplay…Superman wanted to Superhurl. Reeve said no way! All that was left was Supergirl looking at Superman’s poster..What a truly SuperSuck Movie. And Poor Jerry wrote what he saw on screen…Crap!
From what I've seen of the movie (mostly clips and reviews here on RU-vid), this is yet another good score wasted in a bad movie. I wish the score and Helen Slater as Supergirl were in a better movie.
This is the end result of a crappy movie with a great music score. It's like a terrible video game with great music (Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 AKA Sonic 06).
The Superman theme is so legendary but the Supergirl theme has a special place in my heart, I think because it is so romantic, especially that beautiful moment after 1:32. Goldsmith captures the feminine power of the character in all of her kindness, determination, patience, loveliness and grace.
@@DeepScreenAnalysis specially the love theme that is simply beautiful making a link with the innocence of Supergirl face to first love. And on the "horses riding on the sun scene" pure beautiness.
@@matthewballon9948 : The film isn't really so bad, just in comparison with the first two "Superman" movies. That's a problem "Superman III" had the prior year. Helen Slater was actually a great casting choice. Faye Dunaway is admittedly too over-the-top as the villain, but she seems to be having fun playing the role.
This makes we want to put on a cape and save a kitten and fight evil. Of course I probably shouldn't because someone would probably call the cops. What is amazing about this is how good the music was even for mediocre 80s movies.
The CW version has a theme? While I like the Supergirl series, it shares the same problem every modern show has (no matter if it's good or not), and that's a bland score. Nothing that screams iconic. Goldsmith's score for Supergirl SCREAMS Supergirl in spirit, sound and the effort it took to create.
@@JessicaChastainFan Ethan isn't demonised, she has feelings for him both as Kara and as Linda Lee and its mutual, but has to go back to save her dying home and he lets her go. I only watched the first episode of the "new" Supergirl and I thought it was badly written garbage.
Why can't they make decent themes like this for heroes anymore? I would take this classic main title instead of the bland, sometimes dark, pointless non-power invoking garbage they put out today. The theme for the new Supergirl show sucks!
EVen if you omitted the John Williams theme, the Superman franchise produced one great theme after another decade after decade, to make one of the most majestic bodies of musical scoring in history. Unfortunately, we've had three bad misses in a row, Smallville, Man of Steel, and now Supergirl (TV).
