Do you ever wonder what was going on at the homefronts while the war was going on? It is usually overlooked in World War Two historiography and we don't get to talk about it in our weekly WW2 episodes either. That's why we have a dedicated monthly episode called 'On the Homefront', hosted by our own Anna Deinhard. You can find the playlist with all available episodes right here: ru-vid.com/group/PLsIk0qF0R1j5Ug9lCaxygenFf3lzuGXap You can find the original version of this video and its comment section here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xQ9xWpJoP4o.html Cheers, Joram . *RULES OF CONDUCT* STAY CIVIL AND POLITE we will delete any comments with personal insults, or attacks. AVOID PARTISAN POLITICS AS FAR AS YOU CAN we reserve the right to cut off vitriolic debates. HATE SPEECH IN ANY DIRECTION will lead to a ban. RACISM, XENOPHOBIA, OR SLAMMING OF MINORITIES will lead to an immediate ban. PARTISAN REVISIONISM, ESPECIALLY HOLOCAUST AND HOLODOMOR DENIAL will lead to an immediate ban.

Looking at the patent history, we can tell that the magnetic mine existed by 1924, and the 1925 patent shows that it was invented ironically by an American named Glennon.

I’ve always found the German Navy during WW2 to be one of my favorite topics pertaining to the war. That branch of the German military was so overlooked it’s actually kind of sad. The same thing goes for the Italian Navy the Regia Marina. A great and formidable naval force, but is hardly ever mentioned in the history books.
@chazzerman286
@chazzerman286 4 года назад
I think the main reason for that is because when you're using your navy almost exclusively for merchant raiding with explicit orders not to engage anything capable of fighting you, you don't tend to get the same sort of flashy results the other branches would get. Also doesn't help when your leader throws a strop and essentially grounds the entire surface fleet for not doing well enough midway through the war.

The Brits took control of VietNam after WWIi. The communist fighters, later known as Viet Cong began to fight the Brits ASAP. The Brits freed the Japanese forces and re-armed the Japanese to assist in the fight against the VC. After the French unfooked themselves as a nation,, they tried to re-establish their control in VietNam. The Brits gladly gave them their pre war colony back again. The French continued their abusive colony practices, which only further encouraged the VC.

@lokischeissmessiah5749
@lokischeissmessiah5749 4 года назад
@@stevenmoore4612 The British, American and Japanese navies all correctly make the kriegsmarine look like a joke. How embarassing were the failures in the norwegian campaign? The kriegsmarine's only saving grace were their u boats, but they were still a pretty negligent effect on the british. You say the british navy was overrated? Yet they were fighting a huge war in the pacific ocean, whilst keeping the dwarf of a navy the germans had at bay in the atlantic, fairly effortlessly.
@stevenmoore4612
@stevenmoore4612 4 года назад
Loki Scheissmessiah Ok look I said they were overrated because they were big navies. And get more attention. I didn’t say they were bad. The German navy could have been more effective if Hitler actually gave a crap about the navy. It’s pretty much why the German admiralty hated him “With a Passion”! The war with Russia basically ruined any hopes for Plan Z to materialize. Hitler wanted all the available resources diverted from ship building to the building of Tanks and other assets needed to fight a war with the Russians, which was a big mistake! The war with Britain was more vital, and a large navy was need to confront that issue. But knowing war mongerer Hitler he just had to start WW2 before the Kriegsmarine was even close to being ready to take on the Royal Navy.
@lokischeissmessiah5749
@lokischeissmessiah5749 4 года назад
@@stevenmoore4612 "if hitler gave a crap about the navy" except the navy takes steel (which the germans did not have and failed to get from norway in time), fuel (which the germans did not have and failed to get from russia) and experienced men (which the germans did not have and were losing more and more of in comparison to the allies before russia or america even came anywhere near). Not going to happen my friend. The only thing germans ever had in superiority were their land forces, because they did not have an empire to administrate and could focus them all on europe, against the colonial powers britain and france who had their land forces spread thinly across the world.
@stevenmoore4612
@stevenmoore4612 4 года назад
Loki Scheissmessiah That’s True. Now the German navy was of a decent size. But nowhere near the size of Britain’s. Germany’s navy was of similar size to Italy and France. I believe they were the sixth largest navy when WW2 began. They surpassed France and became the fifth after a good portion the French fleet was scuttled or sunk by the British between 1940 and 1942. Italy’s was still the fourth and a bit larger that Germany’s but they were still similar in size. The top three were Britain, U.S. and Japan. They were huge fleets!
