Totally agree. Think about it he was for me along with hendrix the greatest guitarist of all time. He was top 5 songwriters of all time. Also top 5 dancers of all time. Top 5 pianists of all time. The great man was a total freak of nature. A total one off so very sadly missed.
Keith Timmins he is indeed a lock for top 5-10 guitarists no doubt, but I respectfully disagree with your claim that he’s one of the top 5 best pianists ever. Simply put, even trying to compare him to the likes of Rahmaninov and Lizst is disrespectful. But this doesn’t in any way take away from his stellar playing even on piano, he’s simply a virtuozo and a musical genius.
berk sönmez yes right, but I don’t think nowadays you can get a pianist like Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart etc. I think it’s fair to compare to the 19s
@@maulanasatyaadigama3408 You're referring to a difference in 'Genre. I'm sure if Beethoven(whom was half black) had live just 100 years later he might've been influenced/taken up Ragtime/Blues cuz that was the sound of that era. Especially considering Scott Joplin died almost exactly 100yrs after Beethoven. Vice Versa: if Joplin had lived a century earlier his sound/style might've been more Eurocentric than Afro-Centric as 'Ragtime' is! I'd say neither is more gifted than the other...just different eras different continents.
What makes a great piano player is not resorting to chord sequences, particularly for rock music. Here he’s not just playing chords but trills and arpeggios between them. Sheer brilliance and this is just sound check!
Choice PRINCE....pure jazz...wind blowing that striped shirt...unshaven, hair tousled, calling out the keys in such a understated fashion while killing the keys...unruffled while playing up a quiet storm...nobody will ever come close...PRINCE...
He wrote with all key instruments. Piano - how come you don’t call me Bass - let’s work Drums - tambourine Guitar - guitar. Duane Tidwell captures more examples in his book.
@@jeannetteduette6704 I always wonder if he has recorded some Jazz .Hid it away in the vault like he did a lot of his music .I felt he was going that way towards Jazz ,when he died
When you realize Prince as a Pop Artist probably used a tenth of his actual talent. Like entertaining was the sideshow to his real genius. This is incredible.
Nope... I’m sorry guys... Prince was good in his first 15 years. But, those last 15 years his music was trash. He put out so much trash that he was giving it away in concerts. Unlike MJ who was still putting out hits.
One of the most talented entertainers in history. A true virtuoso on multiple instruments. Phenomenal singer. Insane dancer. Outstanding composer. Mind-boggling.
U sound like a troll. Prince is easily the greatest musician since electricity. If any of the 16/17/18th century muso's were born post 1990 they would want to be prince
@@CribNotes first answer: 1. All the ones that you’re not!! 2. Second Answer: He didn’t need to be one 3. Finally, You demonstrate that you really don’t comprehend how Prince operates. It wasn’t that Prince could out play EVERYBODY🤔.. NO!!! It’s the fact that the sum total of his output was/is greater than any single part. Even a single part replaced by a virtuoso on THAT particular instrument. His genius lies in how HE could put x amount of these sounds, progressions, Melodie’s and instruments together. To make it GREATER than the whole. He could do more with each instrument in tandem than a single musician could on that one instrument alone. Go listen to his first album “FOR YOU”where he demonstrates his incredible grasp of relative pitch; voices and voicing single notes to make a chord. But vocally. I don’t care what anyone says there’s still nothing out there that can match the opening vocal “SYMPATHY” of his voice! I’ll put it like this I’ve been playing almost since I was born. And I’m a piano virtuoso!! There is no way he’d outplay me on piano. I play bass, drums, and guitar as well. He’d demolish me on those but definitely NOT piano. You should feel proud to even have lived in a time period where you could be blessed to have witnessed probably the single most talented genius musician that has EVER LIVED. Finally, EVERYBODY that has played with him has said that he could out play them even in there own instrument. The only exception is Blackwell, and Michael bland. Put it like this, if you weren’t a virtuoso then you’d be in trouble in a cutting contest. He was definitely a guitar virtuoso. A great bass player, a very good piano player and a decent drummer. And again he was a symphony unto hisself!
he was just an okay piano player. quincy has heard the best. prince was great especially for someone whose main instrument wasn’t piano. but many are better.
Prince is a true creative mind. The piano is probably mostly for brainstorming compositions. Q is probably comparing him to pianists that have mostly focused on playing the piano their careers. Performers.
@@smkxodnwbwkdns8369 it’s a silly comment. He’s pointing out an irrelevant detail. It’s like saying Billy Joel is good at the piano but is bad at the drums or whatever. Who cares. We listen for the piano, that is his instrument. Q sounds petty
Q can say that. He was also a genius piano player, and musician. And as a genius producer and composer, Q had worked with a variety of amazing piano players. We don’t have to agree with him but Q is qualified to say that.
That would've just too AWESOME!! This boy would've killed some standards...through in his bluesy/jazzy guitar licks on top of a Nat/Frank cover.....OH Hell Yeah!!!
This is one of my favourite clips of Prince the musician and band leader with lovely playing on guitar from Mike Weaver and on organ from Boni Boyer at the Tokyo concert of the Lovesexy tour. ( I think). Im so sorry he never got to bring the Piano and Microphone tour to Europe as he intended. I was saving for as many dates as I could make. God rest him.
@@1catmac Thank you .Please keep putting it up as I am still learning how to Copy rather than just playlist- my playlists are being depleted - it does not honour the memory of the musician when they do that. Thanks again.
Thanks to all for clarifying that it was the Nude tour with the wonderful Rosie Gaines .I wasnt sure , thats why I said (I think) Prince used some of the same set elements on both tours and I went to my first Prince concert in 1990 on the Nude tour and he was using that silver Prince namesign then, but possibly the tours before and after as well (?) He was the most ridiculously talented human I had ever seen then , or since.
You can see and hear where his father being a jazz musician had some influence on him. That foolishness about Lisa and Wendy introducing him to jazz is just that...some foolishness. Prince grew up around jazz. He didn't require anyone else to add that to his musical growth.
His mother was a jazz singer too! Prince was going to be Prince no matter what! This was a man walking in his purpose. He commanded the gifts God gave him. He accepted the challenge, understood the assignment and never wavered from excellence in his craft. The Prince was really the king we all can learn from.
Master of music.... he's bossing piano here whislt all the while looking at the band around him orchestrating how he wants the sound....and he we want to here it.... genius
I'm sure glad that I've been a true friend/fan of 🎸PRINCE ROGERS NELSON🥁 from the very beginnings. The 🎹"FOR YOU"🎶 album/🎼8TRACK TAPE was my personal connection with PRINCE music when I was only 11 or 12yrs old. I attended my 1st PRINCE live show at 13 or 14yrs old CONTROVERSY world tour. Than I went to the 1999 world tour PURPLE RAIN long before the storm of fairweather friends that came out to his raising 🌠star🌟 I went to each and every show in my city. Sadly I wish I could have seen him during the DIRTY MIND ALBUM era it was at a venue on 30 minutes from my home. I was about 11 or 12yrs old at the time. I went to see Michael Jackson "OFF THE WALL" and LTD around this particular era. I was truly blessed to have witnessed such great live performances like RICK JAMES "Fire It Up" tour later his "FIRE and DESIRE" tour with TINA MARIE. LUTHER VANDROSS and ANITA BAKER also others. PRINCE ROGERS NELSON became my favorite so I always wanted patiently for information about him touring the New Orleans area. ☔PRINCE🌌 father was a Lousiana native🔮
Henri, it sounds like you got a very good sampling of every funky performer out there at the time. You were one lucky guy to see, not only Prince, but all of those others you named. I would’ve loved to see all of them. Peace and be wild.
So fun to listen to Miko who had such a unique style: mix of a little George Benson and Earl Klugh and a dash of fun that he admitted he picked up from Prince.
as usual Prince was prolific in his thinking and his writing. A true Maestro. Websters definition of a Maestro is an eminent composer, conductor, or teacher of music and Prince was all of those things and more. ☮️🕊💜🎶
Master: •Singer •Song Writer •Dancer •Multi Instrumentalist •Producer And Wasn’t a bad Actor, could dress like No Other, and Had Mad Game with the Women. LEGEND‼️
@@liamsandal6360he was an excellent dancer. Don’t forget he danced in high heels 😂…. He was so talented for dancing. More than MJ who was very limited and stiff. Prince was a natural. Ask any pro dancer or even ballet dancers about his abilities and natural talent. Get a clue.
@@liamsandal6360messiah? Who ever said he was?😂 What’s your background? Ballet? Contemporary? 😂 Of course he wasn’t a pro dancer or even it wasn’t his main thing. Read again what I first said.
I come to this video every now and then to hear his greatness! So chill - so relaxed and cool. This is just an incredible performance even if it was just a warmup. RIP Prince! We miss you!
Listening to some Prince today. My brother was a guitarist. He said to me, "Eric Clapton is the best guitarist, ever!" I said, "No, Prince is." When he tried to convince me that I was wrong, I pointed out that EVEN Eric Clapton said that Prince was the best. :D
In an interview Clapton said that when he visited Prince in Minneapolis 3 things happened to him (Clapton) for the very 1st time: It was the 1st time ever another musician didnt ask him to play his guitar. It was the 1st time ever another guitarrist blew him away playing his own (Clapton's) songs. And it was the 1st time ever he felt inferior to another guitarrist.
I wonder if the workers milling around realize just how fortunate they were... I know they had jobs to do, but just to have this Blessing while you do it... magic
