Thank you for all the lovely comments and support. This feels very heart warming when jumping into someting new and putting it online. I love the questions and will try answer as many as I can. Video #1 sets up a few of the big questions, for those that have not watched that yet. 👍

Interesting! I've been living in Marche Italy for ten years, since I ditched the city life and high heels and moved out of London UK to here..I bought a very small old stone house on the mountains..... it was very cheap but sadly no land..though I have a use of a big plot nearby, belongs to friends, where i grow my food and keep lots of chickens for eggs to sell...goats are coming soon... As you may know it's almost impossible to get a job here but i don't have big expenses..as i live off grid but no solar panels...just a tiny portable one to charge a tiny power bank to charge my old mobile phone. I also don't have a car and live alone...I preserve all of my food,mainly through fermenting or dehydrating...I forge and barter with local small organic farms nearby..no money but I eat like a Queen 🥰😊.. if I may ask, are you north or south of Marche? I guess you are more into the south of Marche, as I see hills...where I live it's mountains..good luck , it's hard work but so worth it. 🤞👋

That sounds like a great adventure and a lovely story. I would love to learn more about food and foraging, but one thing at a time. My neighbours tell me that the bottom of my field gets the most amazing mushrooms - they come and pick them so that they don't go to waste. I am near Corinaldo which is more North. The view of the Apenines makes it look South.

Gosh, this is a very polished video for a bloke who says that he is learning on the go! Your new property, and its surrounds, are simply beautiful. We have just over 4 acres of (what was and still sort of is) raw land here in Australia and, when I saw you brushcutting the long grass and chopping into the vines in the heat of the day it definitely reminded me of our earlier days on our little farm! Although, to be fair, it isn't bug bites we need to worry about, but snake bites. For the grass, within about a year, we took on a small flock of hair sheep and they have been marvellous all-round. We bought our acres without a house so what you currently have is definitely a step-up from what we have, and I am sure you will make it something very special. I look forward to seeing how you progress and have subscribed. Stay well, Rich

Thank you for taking the time to say hello. Australia is high on my dream list. It was a little far to pop to and from when working in the UK and having children that are not quite ready for me to set up fully abroad. I hope they travel to Australia when they get the chance. Who knows, I may follow them. Livestock is a hot tip from a few on here. That seems daunting and a worry if I am not there 24/7 to make sure they are kept well. I may have to stick with the strimmer and loppers for a while. I think I have found a technique to keep them at bay...but time will tell.

What a ton of work cleaning those brambles and weeds while under the hot sun, I was really feeling for you! In my years, I've developed two very extensive large beautiful yards with vast ornamental gardens and productive vegetable plots, have also accomplished a good deal of work upon my new build home, indeed I've exhausted this body of mine all too many times! My roots, my start out in life and until into my 40's was as a farm boy upon our 3,300 acre family grain farm, I wish I could turn back the hands of time and still be there with my dear parents and family! Now, these days, am on a lovely sprawling acreage of my own and almost am ready to retire, to something smaller, maybe I'll find an nice place such as yours! Happy to be along on this journey with you! 🤗👍

Hi, that sounds like a wonderful life being mostly out doors. 3,300 acres must have kept you all busy! The brambles have been free to go crazy for too many years. I don't want to fill videos of me strimming but it is a mammoth task getting them under control without damaging the good trees they're smothering. Little by little though.

Cleaning would much easier in Winter Times. I would have started to collect Water and planning trees in the field. What do you think Kiri trees? They grow very fast and in 10 to 15 years the ready to be Cut and Sold. For berries I would plant currants. And garlic and potatos.

Hola from Spain. I seem to be watching your video's out of sequence, but don't think it matters until i catch up. After nearly 2 years in this house we've only just finally cleared last of the rubbish. 18 years in Spain, 6 years completely off grid, new build of large modern house in the mountains, and now an old Casita needing renovating. Watching you makes us think we'd do it all again, even the blood, sweat & lots of tears, but we in our 70's now. They make a mulching brush blade that is basically a flat bar that turns down at 90 degrees at the end edges that is perfect for brambles and small trees / bushes. I have a lot of woodland in rural Ky and I use it on my fence line. It really makes all the difference. I can clear an area the size of a van in a few minutes and all that’s left is mulch like everything went thru a shredder . I call it the spinning blade of death.
@threeacresofmarche
@threeacresofmarche 8 месяцев назад
Hello @rexmundi8154 I tried what I thought was a mulching brish when taking on those over head height beauties. Is that blade the one you mean? The kickback from a blade like that, when I hit what I cannot see hidden, is brutal though. I try a different blade, which I will show in a few videos time, that I feel safer with. I need a shredder! It is on the purhcase list. Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it.
@rexmundi8154
@rexmundi8154 8 месяцев назад
@@threeacresofmarche the one I use is the Oregon 295504-0 on a Stihl weed eater with the handlebar control and sling. You need to wear sturdy clothes and shin / face guards because the blade can really sling debris at high velocity. I use mine right up against stone walls with no problem. The blade it very heavy and you can run it at slower speeds and it still cuts great. I’d put the money towards a high quality weed eater like a Stihl model FS-111 with the handlebars that let you hold it with both hands over a dedicated mulcher / shredder. You won’t use the mulcher much after you get the area cleared but the weed eater will be something you use forever. I wish id figured this out years ago. I had dozens of cheap weed eaters over the years and buying the FS-111 was the best thing I ever did. I’ve used it in heavy brush for over 3 years and it’s still going strong. With the mulching blade on the weed eater, you start at the top and come down on it until you can see more of the underneath. If you cut at the base, everything falls over and obscures the ground and the long stems get all caught up in everything. Mulching from the top down turns the stems to tiny pieces. I really need to make a video about it.
@threeacresofmarche
@threeacresofmarche 8 месяцев назад
@rexmundi8154 Thank you. Great advice. I will get a chipper/shredder as there are alwys plenty of cuts from the olive trees that are not any good for fire wood etc. Thanks for the tips. My friend, be very careful when working with the brush cutter in places you are not familiar with. I know of many people who have been seriously injured when a wire became tied to the rotating blade. i currently rent an apartment in mid town Toronto, but spent 17 years in St.Lucia, West Indies; i bought 1/4 acre there and built a small concrete house on a stepped foundation, and a flat concrete roof; when the house was finished and i moved in, it was bare and plain, but the house and land were already paid in full; i clearly remember the feeling of being a 'man' for the first time in my life ie not renting, and knowing that i could lose my job, but wouldn't be HOMELESS...there is nothing like owning land vs renting (my paternal grandparents were from Pomarico in the south, married there in 1901, then emigrated to New York City, returned to Italy then moved back to NewYork, then Toronto in 1905 and settled there)

Just have loads of cash for renovation, use local labour or you may have problems and look thoroughly into the legal aspects involved in ownership, taxation etc or you may have a lemon on your hands. For example in Spain the country owns the land and if they want to put a road through your house, they can!

We learn to think twice before any move of a finger - because planning the activity and creating the best solutions for everything makes a huge difference on how many problems we can solve in a given time. My first thought while watching you clearing the brush in shorts and a T-shirt was “poison ivy and bugs”!! I also learned the hard way when we first moved to our house 2 years ago, and I got debilitating bites and poison ivy allergic reaction. Good luck with everything!!!

@threeacresofmarche I come from France. It s not much a big deal if you are inside everything closed off or at the beach. Next time you see the farmers ask them they will tell you. Country side has more advantages than disadvantages but it is important to be on the safe side. Unless they grow the wine organically but I bought it.

@@inthegarden6556 yes, I wondered this too? Here in Australia prices for small parcels of rural/regional land, particularly those within 2 hours or so of large town/city, continue to climb even after significant increases during the COVID years. I might be wrong but I just don't think you could find a property like this one Italy, at the indicated price, here in Australia. Unless it was very, very, remote.

It was listed as the following - Xtend & Climb 1303-050 ProSeries Heavy Duty Telescopic Aluminium Ladder. It is showing as sold out from the company that I bought from but there are many still on there for sale. I paid £100 for it a few years ago.
