In one of the most intense College Basketball games ever - The ninth-ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina, led by Jeff Lebo and J. R. Reid battle it out in a slugfest with Danny Ferry and the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils in one of the most epic ACC Tournament games ever.
Game played on Sunday, March 12, 1989 at the Omni in Atlanta, Georgia.

Those people who know UNC basketball know that UNC would have dominated the ACC and the NCAAs if 1988 recruit 6'10 Kenny Williams would have been admitted.

I used to laugh when I'd see Allah Abdelnaby in that tiny little car he drove. No idea how he folded himself into it. :))

Before this. Game Dook was a non-factor. I knew they were down the street in Durham, but I’m from Chapel Hill and Durham was 😱. I hated dook after this game. I hated Danny Ferry.

This was one of the most talented teams coach K ever had. They should have won the National Championship.

I've always found "woulda, shoulda, coulda" to be a futile game. I could name any number of Tar Heel teams that were great and "should" have won the National Championship, but the obvious response is "yeah, but they DIDN'T!" As for the 1989 Blue Devils, I seem to recall that an injury to Robert Brickey in the final four semi was Duke's undoing. But memory fades and gets jumbled like so much bric-a-brac in the attic, so I could be wrong.
