Thanks, after watching many videos on how to get this done, this one helped me he most, purchased the same parts, honestly took me like 4 hours not rushing it just enjoying my Sunday, had it tuned at a local shop the next day. I have a 04 Sierra 2500HD, still fresh where i live so i haven't tried it in the heat, will follow up in a couple of month, but so far really happy, feels quicker on take off which helps when merging and taking off.

I think the biggest difference you'll notice is the air conditioning, WAY more consistent, gets cold and stays cold! I'm not nice to mine, and I can attest these cool way better than the mechanical. You can tow up a grade all day and the needle stays put. Glad you liked the video!

Fans are doing great, not a single issue with them or the Nelson kit, I love it. Truck gets to temp faster, stays cool easier, and ac is more consistent. Stock alternator, but I found the 145amp alternator from the 2500hd is often cheaper and a direct swap! Thanks for the feedback!

great video, thank you. considering this for my 04 5.3 1500. what do i need to look for in terms of turning on the e fan option on my pcm? can the stealership do this for me or do i have to look for a local tuner or will a full featured obd2 with can bus feature access the e fan option
@EventuallyPrettyGood
@EventuallyPrettyGood 2 года назад
Unfortunately it involves refreshing the pcm so it would need to be a tuning device, I highly recommend the hpvi2 from hptuners, but many other platforms will do it. Not sure if a dealership would do it for you, but wouldn't hurt to call and ask. You'd pay around the same price to have a tuner do it as you would to buy an hpvi2 and do it yourself. If you have no plan on learning to tune, it's still very handy. Speedometer correction if you regear or change tire size, bidirectional diagnostic controls for engine and transmission, as well as disabling CEL for o2 sensors if you ever ditch your cats. BUT. They're a little tedious to flash, unplug radio fuse as well as any trailer brake controllers and lights before you flash! If you don't think you'll use it again, I'd just pay for a good tune and hit 2 birds. Either route will cost you $500 or so. But a heads up, mpvi2 is on backorder at the moment. Thanks for commenting!

That I don't know. But I have the 145 Amp alternator. Tip: if you need to replace your alternator, buy one for an HD silverado. Direct swap, more power than the 105 amp, and it's USUALLY cheaper.

@EventuallyPrettyGood 2 года назад
Are you measuring to the edges of the core or edge of the tank? I'm not sure I've heard of a 42", if the core itself is 34" the kit in the description will work for you, not sure otherwise tho. Also not sure if the Nelson harness will work with the 8.1, however, they do have a harness that works using a temperature prove separate of the computer

Thanks for your replying, I had recently asked how you efans were working, again thankyou for relaying. Question, you said you used a 145 amp alternator, right? Was that plenty enough for those fans at idle? Or would you recommend a larger and what brand? Again, Thankyou for sharing your experience?
@EventuallyPrettyGood
@EventuallyPrettyGood 2 года назад
Absolutely, even the stock 105 amp will run them, the 145 is just nice if you jump other vehicles, run accessories a lot, use an inverter etc.. I mainly upgraded mine since it charges the battery on my trailer

I am in the process of this swap on an 06 2500hd. I went with the gm wiring harness that has the relay mounted near the under hood fuse box. My issue is I only get the drivers side fan to activate. The passenger side one has yet to come on. The one fan kicks on at 208 degrees. I thought they both came on low speed. Any thoughts?
@EventuallyPrettyGood
@EventuallyPrettyGood Год назад
If I remember correctly, the passenger side fan only turns on if the ac is turned on (to cool the condenser) or at a higher temp threshold than fan 1. If you enabled the fans in the pcm yourself, double check that it is set for dual fans. An easy check is if you have a scanner with bi directional control, or in your tuning software. With hptuners, open vcm scanner, diagnostic button, tab for either system or fans, you'll be able to enable the fans individually. If it doesn't come on with ac, or when commanded by a scanner or tuner, double check your pin on the pcm for #2 fan (green wire iirc). Hope you get it figured out, I promise the swap is worth the hassle!
@bradflood7112
@bradflood7112 Год назад
@@EventuallyPrettyGood Thanks for the fast reply. I have an bi directional scanner but I can’t find the option for the fans. The pcm was flashed by black bear tuners and they said the fans were enabled. When I turn on the ac the drivers side fan comes on. Maybe the engine temp and condenser temps are not high enough to enable the passenger side fan. I seen several posts and video’s saying they both should come on at engine temp. I’m at a loss

I’m doing the swap on my 2005 Hummer H2. I just bought the same fans as you did and I got the BP automotive harness, I think it’s a little better it has more of an OEM look and it’s longer harness. Anyway what do you recommend for the temperature to turn on the fans? For Fan number one what temperature would you recommend to turn on and off? And what about fan 2? Also I’m doing 160° thermostat so take that to account. I was thinking 180° to turn it on on the first fan and then 170 to turn it off. On the second fan I was thinking turning it on at 185° and then turning it off 175 what do you think?
@EventuallyPrettyGood
@EventuallyPrettyGood Год назад
I'm not an expert so don't take my word as gold, but I think with your fan settings would be right on the money. One thing to note (you may already be aware) the pcm wants to see a certain temp before it goes into closed loop, usually around 180 or 190, so definitely take a peak at that while you're in your tune. Please comment back after the install and let me know how the BP harness works for ya, I'm still not a huge fan of the Nelson relay location. I pull my pcm and flash with a bench harness for safety and it makes it a pain. But you'll love those e fans, get ready for really consistent cold ac. Easily the biggest difference to me. Fan #2 will cool the condenser whenever needed, and it makes for some damn good ac lol
@buddyrebel_Garcia
@buddyrebel_Garcia Год назад
@@EventuallyPrettyGood Thanks for the reply. I will certainly update you on the BP Automotive harness when I install the fans. I should get the harness this week and the Fans are coming next Saturday, I'm thinking because of the Holiday On Monday. But nevertheless, I am excited to do this swap. I am going to reference this video and another video where the guy uses the BP automotive harness. It is longer and it hides behind the Fuse box. As far at the fan temps. Thinking about what you said about the pcm wanting to see a certain temp be3fore it goes into closed loop I will probably change the temps a little higher. I'll ask the tuner to turn fan #1 at 185, turn it off at 178. Second turn on at 195-200 and off at 188 somewhere along those lines. And then have him turn on the fans automatically when I turn on the AC. Stay tune. BTW I think going with the Heavy-duty Fans like yours was the best choice. My Hummer is a huge truck so it will need big fans like the one you got. I also bought an all-aluminum radiator so I will have a better cooling system then I did before. I just got the Hummer and it only has 57k miles so I want to take care of it as much as possible. I'm in California where the temps are always hot. Right now, it is 109 degrees in Riverside Ca so yeah I need this conversion.
@buddyrebel_Garcia
@buddyrebel_Garcia Год назад
@@EventuallyPrettyGood I almost forgot, I did buy a higher amp alternator. The Hummer H2 comes with 145 amp alternator so I purchased a 160 amp. I think it is safe to do that. Did you change your Alternator?
@EventuallyPrettyGood
@EventuallyPrettyGood Год назад
@@buddyrebel_Garcia I believe you can also just change the temp requirement for the closed loop, then you still get the best of both worlds. I tow a lot with mine, also a 6.0, even at 15k combined (truck trailer and truck on trailer) it still never gets over 200 degrees, they're overkill if anything, but definitely nice to have. Keeps the Trans cooler real happy too!
@EventuallyPrettyGood
@EventuallyPrettyGood Год назад
@@buddyrebel_Garcia Absolutely safe. It will only output what is being drawn. I have the 145 amp in mine, but it came with a 105. I keep jumpers and a lockout kit with me, I jump vehicles fairly often so the amperage is nice to have, if you're into audio It's also nice to have. If you run inverters, jump other cars, or have amplifiers and such, look into doing a "big 3" wiring upgrade, fairly cheap and easy to do. I've jumped my semi with mine, tho it had to charge it a few minutes first

On the actual installation, I'd say probably 3-4 hours. The question on time would be lining up a tuner if you don't already have a tuning device. If you need to take it somewhere to have these fans enabled in the computer, you'll need it towed there unless you live within a few miles. I'd highly suggest an mpvi2 if you don't have one. Even if you don't plan on tuning, very handy for enabling fans, calibrating speedo if you change tire size, as well as a slew of diagnostic controls. You'll pay less and have the device for future use!
