This podcast is easy to describe as the podcast crew helps with one of the more important points while tracking a buck. It is a point in the hunt that many struggle with. Hal, Joe and Lee describe experiences they have had to help with when and what to do when you reach the point in the hunt where you might get a chance at the buck you are on. We find that sharing experiences help people prepare for what they might encounter next fall.
We would like to thank all who have taken the time to send us kind words and the important feedback on subject matter they want to hear from us. Please keep them coming. Please use the link below. The Big Woods Team… www.bigwoodsbucks.com/Contact

35 Whelen is a lot of gun in a 7600.. Not what I would recommend for a small framed person. I will never forget the first time I shot one,,. My Pop wanted me to shoot it prone to sight it in, just to be sure it was a steady platform,,. :-(, O'Boy,, what a fun time.. Thanks Pop. All I can say is I'm glad I was a 190lbs. young man back then.! What a beautiful rifle though, Blond wood, white line spacers, black cap and forearm tips Fleur de lise gloss checked stocks,,, Beautiful! My Grand Pop Dick Burnier Sr. has it now. My Pop gave it to him after Yogi Guided him on a successful Moose hunt back in the early 90's.... Maybe I'll get it back some day??

How. I had a friend here in Vermont and his father was a gunsmith. His name was Paul Rodgers senior, from Richmond Vermont, Cemetery Hill to be exact. He made a gun out of a 300 is it H&H or M&H I'm not sure which one but he made it into a gun he called a 350 boss, and I shot the gun before anybody and at 600 yards I grouped them up none of them were any farther apart than a quarter of an inch. Rest in peace Paul Rodger senior, you built a gun that would have gone far

You guys I've Got The Encore and I'm sure you guys know what it is and I'm sure you love it Thompson Center makes the best when it comes to well just about anything really. So I've got a shotgun barrel for it I've got the Muzzleloader 50 caliber barrel for it we've got a 7mm barrel for it I've got a 300 Ultra Mag barrel for it and, I don't use that a whole lot. As when I was citing it in, I was sick of it after the third shot as it punches pretty damn hard and I hold it to my shoulder tight believe me. Encore Rocks live Hard hunt hard Ride Hard and you know the rest

I'm not an expert on wood grain or caliber size but I know one gun that would outperform that 35 Whelan I'm pretty sure my 300 Ultra Mag Thompson Center Encore would probably out shoot that thing all day and that's with a light load if I put the grain right to it it can definitely out shoot it. Let me tell you this with my muzzle Barrel on my Thompson Center and two plugs so that's 250 grain I can hit Michelob bottles at 250 yards every shop I think that's pretty impressive for a muzzleloader again that's Thompson Center baby

I have to comment on Jim describing the size of bucks shot over by Tupper lake area. I hunt just north of Tupper lake . Where there is thousands of acres of easement along with state land . Meacham lake and St Regis area. Last season there was a 12pt that weighted 228 and a 11pt that weighed 245. Both these bucks were weighted on 2 separate set of scales. I think it’s the same idea as Maine the further north the bigger the bucks . I also miss a big rack last year. There’s. A lot of clear cuts in the areas we hunt. Love listening to your podcast and listening to Jim’s buck stories.👍🦌

I can't remember if it was a Remington or Winchester but I want to say it was a Winchester 30 30 caliber left-handed as in yes it was lever action but it ejected out the left side for a left-handed shooter thank you very much and it was the pre-1941 or whatever the f*** it is guns worth a lot of money trust me it's worth a lot of money it's in excellent condition it's original it's never been blue or sanded or refinished and it is almost in perfect condition, it's weird cuz the scope is offset to the left it's weird as hell but that's the way I got it set up because when I shoot open sites I like shooting right-handed yes I shoot both so that's how my grandfather had it set up because he did too and that's how he taught me so that's how I do and yes I bet left-handed and throw right handed I write right-handed but back left in it catch the ball left in I can write left or right-handed by my main one is right-handed so I am ambidextrous in a lot of different things I can buy it left-handed or right-handed but my main is Left-Handed I'm just the s*** I'm the awesomest and that's all there is to it

They don't understand gut piles. I had a buck hit a deer drag out in 12" of snow the night prior hunt and walked it right to my stand. The drag was full of blood also. So I seen it for my own eyes.

Been tracking these last few years with some success and really appreciate the content of this. Using a full size 3006 gamemaster pump but hoping to get the carbine this year with a peep. Going to keep shooting like a infantrymen till I get a good buck down

Did you hear me 250 grain 250 yd every time hitting Michelob bottles on the 50 caliber Thompson Center encore with the 50 caliber Muzzleloader Barrel. You know though the 7 mm is the funnest one to shoot out of all the barrels, because literally you shoot that 300 Ultra Mag three times in your shoulder is sick and tired of that s*** and it's really loud it kicks like a f****** mule LOL but I love it, but if you want to go have fun the seven millimeters definitely funnest it reaches out there and really tags them, but I'd like to get a 280 barrel for it if they make it if they don't I'm going to have one custom made

I shot a drop tine buck in Maine last year that made MASTC. His drop was on his right side as well. He had what we'd call 19 points but only 14 or 15 of them scored.

@@charliebelle6693 don't like synthetic would really like a bolt action in 35 whelen but the 7600 is nice if it cycles 250 grain bullets and shoot them accurately

GunsAmerican, search 35 Whelen, Rem pump with wood and Rem 700 with wood both under 1k. My Rem pump in 308 shoots 165 & 180 grain bullets under 1 1/2" at 100 off bench which is about what you can expect from a pump. The difference is that if I'm on the road I can stop anywhere ammo is sold and pick up 308 ammo. You would have trouble with the 35 Whelen. The 308 will kill anything that the 35 will.

@@charliebelle6693 I've got two flats of 35 whelen in 250 grains that I picked up at a bargain store that won't cycle through my 750 woodmaster already have a 308 but thank you

You check the OAL? I had some handloads fail to cycle in my pump. Cases were a little long and the chamber was a little short. Gunsmith fixed the chamber and I mic all my cases for it now. Remington produced a 700 bolt in the 35. If you're stuck on one another option is picking up a Ruger American and having a gunsmith put a 35 barrel on it. Should be fairly light but probably kick like hell.

Engrave it in silver a 35 Whelen engraved with silver would be so beautiful you guys, because of the way silver tones, you see gold doesn't tone nothing like silver does anyway, it would be so beautiful you guys come on do silver on the 35 Whelen please I'll tell you what if you do, I'll donate all the coins to melt down to make the silver for that gun and that's my word if you commit to doing the third the first 35 Whelen in silver I will personally deliver the silver 90% silver coins to you so we can smell them down get to Silver and use it for the gun
