04 Ford Explorer Harmonic Balancer Issues/Repair -Squeaky Belts! 

Having this issue with my 05 ranger. everyone legt thought the wrong part was installed because the way it looked in the photos. this video just saved me soooooooo much headache. TY

Thanx for the video....Now I know what I need to do. I diagnosed the same failure on my 04 Explorer XLT today (8/20/23). My output pulley expanded back so far that it began rubbing a coolant hose that has some slow leakage at this point. I have to look for my old old fan clutch wrench from way back in the day, lol. I had never seen a failure like this before... serpentine belt being chewed up and riding off the output pulley. "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. Keep your stick on the ice."

I'm dealing with the exact same issue on my 03 XLT right now. It made grooves in the rubber part of the harmonic balancer too!

Dude great video! I have an 2008 ford explorer and my balancer failed then the pulley ate the crank shaft sensor leaving me stranded on the freeway. Hopefully the replacement job goes ok.

I just did this this job ended up being a bit of a nightmare. The puller bolts were to short and needed 8mmx1.25x100mm long. After installing the dorman harmonic balancer I started getting misfire codes P0300 P0303 p0304. I changed out the crank sensor and spark plugs. I ended up pulling the balancer back off and found that the pickup teeth for the sensor were bent on the new balancer. Make sure to check your new one before install. I just wanted to share this info for others.

I have a 2005 and last year my harmonic balancer shot off and hit the hood and something else and shot out from under my car like a photon torpedo first just spun there in front of the car and then it took off like 100 miles an hour down the block right in front of me and shot up into somebody’s bushes and the belt stayed on and I drove to the mechanic

Where did you get the parts and puller? I see harmonic balancers online, but none that come with the TTY Bolt or amything. Ive seen lots of reviews saying to avoid the Dorman brand because many have failed just after warranty period. Thanks for the video!

Hi - I'm currently doing this on my 2005 Mercury Mountaineer but I'm having trouble pulling mine out. You used the same screw that you'll use to install the new balancer?

Hey do I need a special tool to install the new harmonic balancer or did it just slide right on?
