I can’t tell you how happy I am to find this video!! I was having problems with the dome light, oil pressure gauge, outside temp, battery draining, and of course, the parking brake light doing this fixed all those problems I’m going to post your video on this Facebook group and hopefully it can help many others. Cheers!
Man my f150 has been down for like 3 years because of my dash cluster and I figured it was the soldered connections but I'm not skilled enough to repair it. This video confirmed it thanks
EXCELLENT VIDEO, Thank you for taking the time to show me how to properly do this job. Seems like a lot of work for 150.00 people are fortunate to have you offer this service at a reasonable cost. Thank you so much, Steven.
Just purchased e250 van used, seller didn't tell me about cluster going in an out . The fan and radio also goes out. Thanks great video, I'm to old and broke to pay someone to do that. Have to teach my youngest to solder, your video well help thank you. 😊 no child labor youngest 23 😂
The reason the solders fail is because the US has adopted the CE, European solder standard. What this means is that the solder’s chemistry was changed to use less lead by adding tin to the solder. This makes the solder “brittle” with the added benefit that the tin will crystalize and grow to the nearest adjacent component’s trace. It takes a few years for this to happen but that’s what causes all of this “new/improved” technology to have intermittent shorts and failures.
I was able to repair my 2004 and 2007 F-150 with help from your video Thanks My buddy has a 2004 Chevy cluster that the srepper motors failed. It's not just Ford that has cluster problems.
GREAT Video!! Love your humor!! Learned a few tips from you. Gonna go fix the Emergency Break light by resoldering the "821" resister (plus others). I may be contacting you (before I "monkey around" with it) and mail it to you for repair.
Thanks very much for your very detailed video. My odometer display is not currently working. So I’ll have to figure out if it is just gotten unplugged, or if it needs replacing. Even though I am not a “car guy”, I believe that I can follow your instructions and get my problem resolved. Don’t worry about being a little grumpy. I believe you said that the vehicle belonged to an older woman, and more than likely she didn’t cause your added problems. She probably asked a son, grandson, or other friend to help her out, and they caused more problems than they fixed. Have a nice day, and thanks again for the help!
Great video, I took my cluster out to see why the odometer wasn't lighting up fixed the issue but when I put back in all my gauges like speedometer and gas gauges were in the wrong place and I was getting also a error for my transmission in the odometer reader. Before working on this my transmission was rebuilt everything was working fine before I did this removal of my cluster but no w it has new issues. Anyway if ya see this is love some advice! Thanks!
I think you just helped me, in a way you don't know.... Just bought 06' 150 xlt supercrew (54k Miles) it was a funeral home plow truck in winter (Pennsylvania) and a trailer hauler in summer(mulch and such). It would sit between. I bought the whole rig, plow, Truck, & 16x8 trailer. Had Manifold brought up to date. New manifold is Solid.(after 2 goo sessions,, New plate and 7 drilled bolts).. replaced tranny lines, brakelines, power steering lines (OMG, power steerting fluid can cost more than fuel, if your leaking 2 quarts per every 40miles)..(and know to put more in when you can't steer.) **** To DATE:: I have no idea if my gauges or windows are going to work when I turn my key. But, You just showed me how to fix my Problem,,, without thinking it was H20 pooling, somehow near my fuse box passenger side.. I can smack the top of the gauges or push the button or an area near the button the the dash to active , at least the test session ,, so i can get my windows up ,, if it starts to rain,, can be difficult in traffic.
I use a ceramic coating/spray on the cluster lens and a micro fiber so as to not scratch the lens.It stay cleaner a LOT longer. BTW you missed a spot...LOL
THANK YOU! I have been trying to help my daughter, her truck has had lot's of odd issues. I had previously worked out that the cluster was causing most of them and your video just basically showed me how to rebuild it. I will be rebuilding her cluster the next chance I get. Question, what temp do you have your soldering iron set to? Thank you again very much. Liked commented and also subbed. Have a great week. -David
Thank you for the video. I just needed to see how to replace the bulbs, but damn if you didn't teach me a whole lot more. A like and a sub form me man!!
I just got an 07 and the whole dash turns off and I move the small connecting tail on the right everything works they claimed the change the gauges but it still does it ....and wat size solder are you using
Great video. I know the 5 beeps for 5 times is a common issue and is caused by the air bag icon light not displaying. Is the fix for that to solder everything like you showed here or is it simply a bulb replacement?
Glad to see a real professional in his profession doing an excellent job. 1 question, I like to make my 2005 F150 brighter inside so I can see clearer detail (Night vision sucks). Can you do it and when can you do it. Heading towards SA soon 9.6.23 be there around 10.01.23
saw another vid where someone like this guy ,, took back panel off his gauge cluster for a king ranch,, he put LED bulbs in all the same gauge placed bulbs,, only thing is they are two prong ,, so have to make sure u have them in right
I have the same 06 F150 cluster that is giving me the 5x5 beep alarm for the airbag bulb being out. Is the airbag bulb easily replaceable? Have been living with the beeping for about 2 months now. Extremely annoying being that it alerts every 30 minutes while driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roger
DIYs usually don't struggle from economic times. They usually are eating out too much, have spendy women, or have drug habits but enjoy nice shoes and such. I'm certain diy guys should not be performing this.
I have no oil, voltage and speedo guages . when powered up my voltage guage does shake but that's it...any idea on solution.ive done the re-solder on the pins.
@AutomotiveElectronics @AutomotiveElectronics 1. Can a bad instrument cluster cause my cruise control to turn off, intermittently? 2. If I replace my 2008 F-150 instrument cluster with a different one from a wrecker, do I have to do any programming?
Just a person here dealing with this same issue. Been driving around with my plastic cover off the cluster and will wiggle the top left connector when the brake light sticks on. Had the cruise control issue for about 1 year now. The dome lights also come on randomly. To answer question 1, and to my surprise, YES, the same connector turned off the cruise control. Just discovered this last week after a year if trying different things. Once the cruise shut off, I wiggled the connector and cruise was able to come back on. Out of curiosity, I got cruise working and wiggled the connector, cruise shut off. So frustrating and relieving. My only problem is that I am horrible at soldering and probably messed it up beyond any further repair.
Man I wish you were in West Virginia I'd have you fix my cluster for 150 bucks I have a 2004 Ford f150 5.4 lariat and the speedometer is on 120 and won't move and I've reset the gauges by holding the buttons down on the dash and doing a gauge sweep but that didn't even move it it fixed all the rest of the gauges but didn't move the speedometer I'm almost wondering if it's the speedometer cable
If the speedometer was pressed on to far that might have caused it to be stuck at 120. Backing the needle off just a smidge might be a possible solution to fix that issue.
hi thanks for the video i will subscribe you helped me fix my cluster i do need to know if you can tell me where to find a replacement connecter clip mine is broken so the wire fix that you called a hack had some appeal lol . if you have a part number that would be awesome its the smaller connecter on the right the gral arm broke off
My dash light comes on, but the cluster light for the miles do not come on, at night I cannot see the numbers only during the day. What can be the problem?
i think the reason is the airbag light is not working, i have the same issue, im looking for the component i need to resolder. Ive already resold the one of the brake light taht didnt turn off....Checl your airbag passenger light above the radio, maybe its broke, thats why the 5x5 beeping ,Airbag light its not working (cluster or radio) i hope this helps
