You are not incorrect sir but a lift pump I might add will save the life of your cp3 for the long haul on top of having a 2 micron filter and a water separator like shown in your vid. You are on the right path my friend!
Had a LLY with desired to actual pressures way off. Turned out it was fiber like grassy stuff caught in the lines that go through the injector control module. Take off the line at the filter head and back blow with low air (30psi) through to the disconnected line at the left rear of the motor. The strainer in the tank did not prevent that debris from clogging the line ahead of the filter. I have 2 LBZ motors, one with 360k other with 250k. No lift pumps on either. Running CAT filter, change every year or 10k miles.
Not understanding how your not running a lift pump without hurting your IP? Would the strain of forcing it to use vacuum to pull fuel vs a lift pump to ease travel not wear the injection pump out sooner? Or is wear attributed only to water in fuel or dirty fuel in general? I'm well aware it can run without the lift pump but always was told its wrong practice? Very interesting
Very interesting video, but man you need to hire a camera-man! ;) My Duramax surges, sometimes. The rest of the time it purrs like a kitten. 260,000 pretty much trouble free miles, so far. Is eratic surging the same as constant surging??
most regular Joe mechanics have a tough time with the 3 torx bolts getting them out then the silly oring on the fpr...have to be very carefull when installing the new fpr
Fass lift pump would fix a lot of what you explained. Just putting more filters on it with out a pump would only work the cp3 harder, Resulting in cp3 failure.
The duranax truck has 9 fuel lines on the engine ,they were desighned for vacuam not pressure ,when a lift pump is added to a older duramax it creates leaks where the fuel hoses are old and cracked not to mention the fuel filter housing ,ive see alot of this happening on older duramax trucks.in fact one guys 03 duranax caught on fire big time, the filter head was spewing diesel fuel while towing and the fuel spray hit the hot exhaust manifold and a fire ensued..could not put it out ...the dodge is made with stronger fuel.lines there steel ..
And the surging cannot be fixed by adding a fuel.pump like a fass.its not the fuel pressure causing it .its a faulty fpr ..Fuel pressure regulator every time..replace the fpr or the complete cp3 pump if you have alot of miles..
@@whocaresaboutme29 why would you not fix old cracked fuel lines is my next question? As a duramax owner that should be the first on the to do list. Fuel lines are know to crack and collapse on duramax.
@@whocaresaboutme29 yes that and if replacing injectors, replace the injector fuel lines as well. Never reuse, the corrosion and rust in them will only clog the new cp3 or for again.
Your problem sounds like fuel supply, run a piece or hose on the inlet tube on the drivers side run the lines into a 5 gallon jug..see if the problem is still there??
Hi im working on a 2006 H1 hummer with the LLY D MAX . the truck had performance problems and a code for low fuel rail pressure . replaced the FPR and the truck was good for 2 weeks with no issues . the truck started to surge on idle and felt like it was going to stall out but did not . the exhaust smells like it is running rich . over 1300 rpm it seems to be ok. no codes ore clues to this problem . the actual and desired fuel pressure is very close to a match . I thought maybe I got a bad FPR and so replaced it again . the truck did run great for about two hours and then started all over with the same problem . EGR valve was replaced as well . what do you think ? thank you .
I was not having a surge issue until I replaced the fuel pressure regulator. I was getting low pressure code and replaced the relief value then got a high pressure code and replaced the regulator. Now I have no code but a surge. 🤬
Surging is always a fpr issue fuel pressure regulator ..100% yout low rail.pressure issue is a bad injector ...or a low fuel system issue not enough fuel getting to the cp3 main fuel pump..replace your fpr with a genuine gm unit or your old fpr unit..your surging will go away then focus on your low rail pressure issue
@@whocaresaboutme29 again, I just replaced the FPR. No surge before but a low pressure code. Replaced the relief sensor and then we switched to high pressure. Replaced the FPR and now have a surge.
Mine kinda sounds like that but seems like a slight miss and i got p0612 code for ficm i checked wireing no issuses runs pretty good down the road any help would be greatly appreciated
So I've got an 02lb7 that when cold tends to lope at a red light until it warms up. I'm guessing FPR. But what I Don't know is why when I put the truck in neutral or park, does the lope stop and idles perfect.
I need to get the engine injector hardness for chevy silverado duramax 6.6 diesel 2005 its the 2500 hd model. Need a link to shop it online and send it to CA
I have the same issue with my lly and I've changed the fuel pressure regulator and the pressure relief valve and it still surges so I think this guy is on to something good with the cp3
I jist fixed a surgeing issue. I replaced my alternator thought everything was good started my truck and got the surging. Turns out I accidentally broke my coolant tempature sensor when I was getting the alternator in..
@@pitfalltommy yes.. this was about a year ago but from what I rember yes and that's how I found out I broke the temp sensor wich is close to the alternator
I have an 05 6.6 turbo diesel Duramax 2500 she overheated was just leaking from the bottom of the motor but I can't figure out where the leaking is coming from I don't have a blown head gasket cuz there's no buildup on the oil cap, so I put some bars leak stop leak head gasket repair then I found out that you can't use that on Diesels or it doesn't work on diesels after I used it my truck started sounding really badly and it won't run right it'll make a loud knocking or tapping noise but it's not the engine in something else I put an OBD2 tester on it and it said that something about the injectors were bad but the injectors were never bad so I have a handful of problems I have a mystery here and I'm trying to figure it out I live in Florida if anybody lives closer knows anything about these trucks I would definitely like to try to get it fixed
My friends duramax starts misfires shuts off the starts up again first try. Sometimes will idle for ever and start sputerring randomly then dies when you give it throttle .starts then shuts off thhen again runs ruogh shuts off. under load.
I had the same problem and its the fuel pressure regulator or fpr not the cp3 the cp3 itself will make the truck go into limp mode. and it takes like 5 hours for someone whos not a mechanic
topo2407 That's the shitty thing about owning diesel. good thing is better mpg to the equivalent gas powered truck and more towing power and longer lasting
Fpr is the issue yes but the cp3 has basically been damaged from water getting in the system that’s what happens when people jump in a stock dmax without a proper water fuel separator and decide it’s a mud truck
