as much as I'm sure your sequencing videos get the most views, I really appreciate that you went through the effort of explaining sound building and special functions in depth before going into sequencing. I took the hour and a half or so of time to sit down and watch your FM series all the way through and now I feel like I understand this synth way better than I would after potentially even weeks of playing around with it. Did the same with your series on the monologue. Thanks for the great instructional videos.
@@automaticgainsay hey... Could you do an in depth video on the Vulca Nubass? I'm having a hard time figuring out how to step sequence to create my own arpeggiations.
Hey, this is still very usefull thanks ! I'm expecting my volca fm, and I can´t wait to experiment with it. A questiin remains thought : can you call or use differents sounds in a same sequence ? Best regards !
I'm late to the party, but thank you so much for this tutorial series. I was afraid of getting one of these because of the learning curve. But you explained all the features really well. Such a powerful little machine. The price is incredible. Lots of effort went into these Volcas. I will definitely own all of them at some point despite their limitations.
If you accidentally record a note you didn't like with the FM an easy way to erase them instead of your entire pattern or worrying about constantly saving notation changes you can hold down function and then hit erase when that note is played in the sequence and Viola! It's gone. Now if only they had put the shift sequence pattern function on this baby like the Nubass we would have something. Matter of fact they could have really made the Nubass a beast considering models like this and the Drum which have lots of bang and knob tweaking to be had for your buck. I will say that the Nubass with some pedal effects is a lot of fun. Gotta get creative with mono single oscillators. Great video on this Volca though. It's an eye opener.
As I wait for my Volca FM delivery in an hour's time just a note to say many thanks for the great uploads you've done over the years. At the same time I wonder if or how it will fit in with my newly acquired Neutron. Oh happy days 😀😀😀
4:55 am. I watched the five tutorials. Jetlag is real but these videos were great; I'm so glad KORG (GOD BLESS TATSUYAAAAA) contacted you. Love from Mexico.
Can you sequence multiple tracks in multiple voices like recording bass and horns or distorted guitar from the tone bank? Also I find that I have not been able to save my work on the Volca FM when I do it on the Volca Sample it saves until I erase it but not so on the Volca FM... Am I missing some step or is that not possible on the Volca FM
I'm afraid you can't Use the voices for different sounds... In the sequence Mode. And saving your sequence should work by pressing function and write / memory Button. Saving your Patch will work by pressing save two times in a row.
I really don't like the recording on this thing. It never seems to record the notes in the way I played them. Just trying to duplicate what you did at around 5.50 in the video. Doesn't come out the same.
Thanks for this closer look. I had one of these but I think it must have been broken because I could NOT get the midi input to work at all and I am a midi man by all means. My other KV's work just fine with MIDI, just this one would not do it for me.
Thank you for all your videos, I've been looking at monologue...but Mr Doty...for this..Im just throwing out there...that sound is not the best i get out my FM😂 but THANKYOU
@AutomaticGainsay I dig the intro track of this video! What gear was used when making it? Volca FM? (And if so, only Volca Fm?) Can I hear it in its entirety somewhere?
I love these little instruments but not into all the other stuff outside of making songs. This is the video that just caused me to purchase one of these. Exactly what I needed to know and it wasn't techno, dance music, Acid crap. A nice funky tune. Thank you sir.
great review -tutorial, are covering all the features in this series , thank you. a bit suggestion, will be great if you can ducking the instrument while you speak is a bit hard get what you say whit the sequences playing however thanks!
Recently got a Volca FM and came upon your series of videos on it. They are awesome and really demonstrate the abilities of the synth. The one page manual left me looking for more detail which I got from playing your videos. It made me check out other stuff by you which is equally as helpful. Great Job. Thanks.
I have a question. When you are in the menu and the volume parameter means something other than the volume (let's assume it's feedback) Is it going to change the feedback by giving automation to the volume knob ???
Marc, another easy way to transfer your settings to a new pattern (as if you were sequences for instance is to save your sequence and then save it again to the next spot you want for the next sequence. All the instruments and settings will save then just hit function and clear all and write the next pattern. No need to change the settings manually before you record the next part of your song. I learned this from a tip from someone on my volca. Saves tons of time :)
@@48cloudpierre48 have you found any way around this? Just started using the fm and spent the last few hours trying to get all my parameter settings to save with the sequence. Every time I replay that saved memory slot it's defaulting to original parameters.
@@tunnocks if I remember correctly the only way to get around this was to save the actual patch with the sequence. Not the best solution cuz if you want to go back to the original patch you have to reimport it or remember its parameters. But in retrospect it does make sense how it works I guess. I sold my volca fm though cuz I realized dexxed was the same thing but free and saved all motion sequencing patches etc with no hassle
Do you know if you can connect the sequenced patterns on the volca beats in the same way that you can on the volca FM? I'm loving these tutorial videos by the way. thanks so much
when you chain sequences do they have to be in sequential order, and neighbouring each other? can you not create a more dynamic chain from the hardware or is that best left for doing inside a DAW?
You really did a great vídeo. The owner manual sheet in portuguese explains poorly how to record sequences. Your explanations are preeeeety well. Thanks a Lot.
Angus Cameron hold function and press the record button. Think of function like a shift button for secondary function. You will see the erase feature written under the record button
In this technological day and age...why we find it acceptable for Korg to continue to give us just 16 steps... but then we wouldn’t need to buy the X,Y, Z versions of the upgrade model...no, wait...Those will only have 16 steps too (XD). Meanwhile, nearly 20 years ago Roland offered their 909 groove box with a 16 track multi timbral, 64 note polyphony, 1000 measure per pattern sequencer...ugh. Planned obsolescence to keep you wanting more...and RU-vid reviewers busy.
Korg gave us 16 tracks of 64-note polyphony with almost infinite programmability. Back when people had the good sense to use digital sequencers instead of step sequencers. The problem isn't what Korg is giving to suit consumer demand, it's that consumer demand is increasingly focused on limiting trends.
AutomaticGainsay I think it would make sense, since everyone is getting into hardware synths these days, if Korg released a 128 step 16 track sequencer to go with all their synths - equipped with the same functionality of the XD sequencer. I agree to a point but tops on users wishlist for the minilogue xd is more steps. I call that consumer demand. - and Korg could have easily doubled, if not quadrupled, that amount. 16 steps on the Minilogue xd is like releasing a Porsche with a Corolla engine. I love Korg synths, I love all the Korg’s I own, but I have a hard time giving Korg a pass and only blaming consumers when it comes to functionality.
The intro music is composed with the Volca FM! In fact, it was created entirely out of presets, which is something I rarely do. The drums, however, did NOT come from the Volca FM. The song in its entirety can be found on my soundcloud: soundcloud.com/recondite
