That's what I was saying, they can't get shots worth a shit because of FAA regulations, they have to keep circling from a certain altitude so they stay on radar. That and their seeming standard definition crappy broadcast cameras from 2003.
In 1979 the Salt River in Phoenix was raging from a week of rain. I was a dumb 20 year old - standing on the bank, passing one around with a few buddies - watching in awe as cars, and, yes, a house (!) Went floating by. We could feel the ground shaking from the power. The group turned to go, and after getting about 20 feet from where we had been standing, the ground let go and washed away. As high as we were, we all just looked at each other in stunned silence, realizing that we were just seconds from certain death. This footage triggered that memory. I pray for these people's safety.
💯I pray that you realize that it was Almighty God that had his angels watching over you! 👇Psalm 91👇 🛡️⚔️Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. ✨For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. ✨ You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” 🙂💯
@@mt_gox Usually the "big check" doesn't cover the cost of replacing a home. If they even pay. "Standard exclusions include: flood, earth movement, earthquake, landslide or mudflow, settling, cracking, shrinking, subsidence or sinkhole, erosion, sinking, rising, shifting, expanding or contracting of earth. However, most homeowner's policies will cover an ensuing fire or explosion resulting from earth movement."
Just the comment I was looking for! I think the drone operator saw that too. Anyways, it looks as if it made it deeper and changed the flow some, giving the house some more time possibly?
Some back story. The house belongs to the guy that bought and ran the Dam Store next door in about 1972. He ran, but did not own, the campground down river. The owner, after promising for decades to sell it to him, sold it to the county. Then the county turned it into a rustic site, depriving him of the income from fishermen, etc. And now the county's neglect has taken his home, at age 84. A Final Kick in the Teeth. PS, I lived in that campground in 1973, when it was full of campers who would come there to fish and enjoy the place. The owner of the Dam Store, Jim, did a lot of business back then. Fond memories.
@@nancypelosi2627 it's how landslides happen during heavy rainfalls, you know there are natural dams right? and they breach too during heavy rain. that's why sometimes the hills where people deforested wash away.
Feel so sorry for the owners of that home. I am not sure they can even stablize it or if it would be worth even if they repaired the area. What a mess.
@@MissyMuthaTruckiNthats a bit cynical isnt it? Am pretty sure they didn’t expect the dam to collapse when they built the place…grow up for heaven’s sake
Mother Nature has a way of showing just how in charge she is. Historic Flooding and a Damn that couldn't compete with the forces and volumes. There has always been a danger building along rivers and this is one of those circumstances.
its not mother nature its humans. damn up a river and 75- 100 years later there 10' of silt and the base of damn and 20' of concrete and the one way for the water to go is around.
Yes the county has forgone routine maintenance of removing debris (the logs) that restrict the flow. This never would have happened but for this negligence. The country has neglected our infrastructure by degrees for over 30 years and the results are critical imminent and catastrophic.
Local authority says it will rise the water in the river by only two feet . and the dam will not brake up because the pressure has been relief by the water going around the dam
Props to the designer and people who built the dam. Mother nature had to go around because it could not go through. Hopefully the family in the white house there start a go fund me or something. Assuming Insurance doesn't do right by them, if they have it. Kind of hard to rebuild when the land you would rebuild on is gone too.
I Truly feel bad to who ever owns that House. And Pray they get everything out before its gone. Praying for Everyone that Is Being Flooded by these Storms.
@@Me97202Thank God for people praying. Worse to come is the seven-year tribulation spoken of in the Bible when the wrath of God is poured out on all rebellious and unrepentant people.
@@charlesrobert6211 You mean worse than the regular mass shootings? Worse than the increasingly explosive wildfires fueled by climate change conditions? Why aren't you on this dam praying the rain away?
@@HappyHarryHardonactually they figured the bridge would have to be replaced when they tore down the dam because they were unsure of its stability after.
There was on the local news station KEYC-TV (from whom this drone footage was stolen from without credit.) You can go to their website, as they are covering this very closely.
I remember watching Oroville every single day from here in the UK courtesy of Blancolirio, In this case that dam seems to be holding up and doesn't look likely to collapse, not that that's any consolation of course, Seems wrong saying great footage under the circumstances but it's way better than the news coverage. Anyway, best wishes to all concerned and I hope the situation improves quickly.
Sad! The same exact situation happened here in North Houston area! They knew the rain was coming but yet did nothing to start releasing water! In fact a woman wrote to the water control board & asked to start releasing the water. His response was no, we want enough water for the lake this summer! Incompetent sabotage!
Amazing in roughly 6 hours today that the house went from being about 6' from the torrent of water - to parts of it overhanging the edge. The power of rushing water is on full display here, with the amount of land it's eroded and washed away in that short period of time.
I was was wondering when somebody was gonna get out there with a drone and get some proper shots, Those damn helicopters are completely Worthless, and couldn't get Shot's worth a shit with crappy ass standard definition broadcast cameras, and wouldn't stop circling from 1000 foot altitude because of FAA regulations.
That's why they built the 40 ft embankments downstream to protect cities. And they already said that if the damn failed it would only cause a 2-foot surge.
It’s the next day, can we get an update on this house???Apparently there was a live stream earlier but whoever posted it, deleted it and I never saw it.
Been following this all afternoon, figured that house wouldn't make it. Happened incredibly fast also! Maybe people should stop running waterways? That is a beautiful natural fall!
What gets me is why they didnt blow the two safety gates ( they are wooden) on the left hand side ( looking upstream) to release the water pressure before it was to late - or even now do it now
From what I keep hearing It was severely neglected, none of that stuff probably worked anymore. But it looks like nature is taking its course and made a spillway of its own anyways.
The house was built away from the river and dam; I'm not sure how many feet but it wasn't built right next to it. The river eroded away a huge amount of terrain along with the Xcel substation. In pictures I've seen previous to this the house seemed to be a reasonable distance away.
I'm pretty sure this footage is from a helicopter? We are staying in a campground about 3.5 miles directly south of the dam. No evacuation notice here. I drove up to look at the dike about 1.5 miles south of the dam and there was at least 15-20 feet of freeboard. That breach has to be alleviating alot of the water pressure from behind the dam. Be a shame if that structure goes. Just hoping for no more rain for a while and water levels recede.
Yes the county has forgone routine maintenance of removing debris (the logs) that restrict the flow. This never would have happened but for this negligence. The country has neglected our infrastructure by degrees for over 30 years and the results are critical imminent and catastrophic.
We've had severe flooding and heavy rains for several days with a city emergency being called, so I'm assuming the downed trees are from that. The heavy flooding is causing the dam to break and half the city got been flooded from rain already before this happened
Looks like there's a solid bedrock formation where the damn breached, which is likely why the damn is located at that spot. That will prove to be beneficial. If the damn had been located north a few hundred feet downstream where the deep scouring occurred, the ultimate outcome would be far worse.
& here America has 🍊💩 blasting the current Administration for passing an infrastructure bill. °~•.☆.•~° ❤ Prayers to the families, the victims, the community and the department. Prayers important because the remind us that this s*** does happen and it has its impact.
The water breached the dam on the left side earlier today. When I came back just now I see they opened the dam gates. They should have been opened strategically one at a time this morning and afternoon maybe? Now that the breach on the left was made anything on that side including the cute White House is toast. Plus the generating station this side of the dam is destroyed and will slowly start to disintegrate. (Explain to me if I’m wrong) . I pray everyone in the Mankato area are protected by our Lord and Saviour .
I did wonder why all that debris was left to make maters worse , could a digger on the bridge/road not help to remove debris. Big massive clean up to come. Hope no one gets killed.
the bridge is at an angle in relation to the dam, putting the nearest part of the first open gate 186 feet from the centerline of the bridge, and the farthest point is 245ft from centerline. A machine that big is incredibly rare, as its in the "ultra long reach" category, and most of those are high reach units anyways. Theres no way that bridge is rated for a piece of equipment that big, as the ONE chart i can find for a 96ft reach machine lists the operating weight at 130 ton. not gonna work
Any word o the inflow rate and if it is increasing or decreasing? If the flow rate has already reached the maximum then it's a good bet the dam will hold and they will be able to repair the earthen works and any other damage. OTH, if the flow rate is still increasing then the damn is perhaps in some jeopardy.
Ya, it probably will but the soil around it won't. They should have blown a section of the dam to protect the property along the dam, which clearly is now blown out. And they said in the news that they built 40 ft dikes to protect against a surge which they said when only raise the water 2 ft. And they said the water is at 27 ft so would still be under 10 ft of the protection but yet they're letting people that own the land along the river have their land be destroyed because they don't want to bust the dam and protect the property around it
It's odd that they aren't dumping a bunch of heavy rip-rap in to attempt to save the house. It's been done in other high-erosion flood situations but it doesn't seem like they are trying anything at all to save this house. Certainly sucks for the homeowner.
Probably blocked. Just look how much debris the other ones have on top but the other two do not look like that have as much because it is probably all under water clogging in up. You get more stuff going down the river on the sides then the middle. The middle two look like it is starting to get more clogged then the other one also.
For all the infrastructure going on, it seems to go towards non material services, so the highway and railway systems and dams and bridges are in great need of service. Including nuclear power plants. There’s a life expectancy of all these structures and many are up. Same goes for everything. America has plenty of work that needs to be done and if monies spent on wars then more money will be spent to repair the damages thereof before it is spent on servicing American physical infrastructure.
I remember when Trump was running for president in 2016, and he talked about we need to invest in infrastructure. This is an example of infrastructure failing. That house will be undercut and eventually washed away. All because the dam wasn't properly maintained.
We can stop flooding and heatwaves from causing devastations to your community and country. I pray 🙏 for everyone who has been and is still being affected by drought, heatwaves, wildfires, flooding, and sinkholes as a direct result of the climate change crisis and global warming as well as your government mismanagement. I am informing you that there's a viable solution to mitigate climate change crisis and global warming together with all the devastations they are causing, but your governments have to approve the solution Stay safe in the meantime J
Dang, I saw an idiotic comment about that the person that lived in the White House that's going to fall into you know the waterfall they were saying that it was their job to clean the debris from the bridge so it was their own fault that they lost their house. Seriously? So you're saying that they should have gone out in the rain and attempted to pull those downed tree s the rolling their up against the dam and don't really have anything to do with the water flowing out of its channel and destroying homes you're saying that that person should have gone out and fought these trees? I'd like to know how strong you are that you can go out and battle downed trees in raging Waters and they don't have anything to do with blocking the output of the Dam. They're not blocking it the water's flowing out as fast as it can and those trees have nothing to do with it so your comment was you know kind of idiotic and maybe that's why I can't find it anymore. If I do find it I'm going to say the same thing there once I do find it again. And I thought while I was watching this video on my RU-vid TV which I can'tmake any comments too. I have to then go to my cell phone and search for it. Silly silly human
Not a house Family run store, for last 50 years Owner said she could stand having a house washed away, just move to another But losing the family’s business was so devastating Dam had not been used to produce electricity in the last 10 years. Power outage in the area was loss of carrier lines
Jonah : In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful [10:24] The similitude of the life of the world is only as water which We send down from the sky, then the earth’s growth of that which men and cattle eat mingleth with it till, when the earth hath taken on her ornaments and is embellished, and her people deem that they are masters of her, Our commandment cometh by night or by day and We make it as reaped corn as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do we expound the revelations for people who reflect.
Why do people pray to god to keep people downstream safe. God made it rain, and destroyed the dam in the first place. RIGHT ??? If you give god all the credit, he gets all the blame.
I support doam removal, but not for the reason to save fish, our dams here in the US are old. ranging between 200 years old to 100 years old and they are becoming bad in condition.. even bonniville Dam and others in the area are showing thier age Its time we get rid of the dams. they are to dangerouse to keep in opperatio, these can not last for ever.
So sad for all of those involved. I just wonder how the insurance company what excuses they are going to come up with to try to not pay a claim for that house hanging on the edge...
Oh, man! There doesn't seem to be much chance of the house surviving this! Even if the bank ceases eroding there must be considerable damage to the entire house already. I feel bad for whoever it belongs to.
"as it's become unearthed" wtf newspeak is this? the ground washed away. Why didn't they just let the water through the dam it's like let the water be free
