Cueing in a straight line. Establishing fixed points in your cueing action includes how you should adapt your cueing technique and bridge hand when the cue ball is near the cushion or side rail (sometimes known as a rail shot). This will help you to strike the cue ball correctly and in a straight line. Barry, just discovered your channel as my adult son and I are trying to improve our snooker. You're videos are the best, bar none, in my opinion. Concise and clear. They're teaching us a lot and our playing has improved. You're clearly an incredible teacher, a real skill, thank you. Regards Adam (and making RU-vid Shorts before they existed!)

Hi barry, Amazing videos.Thanks for that.Had one question, in your grip video, i saw the cue rotating during backswing, is that fine?I always thought the cue should remain straight throught the delivery.

+Navjot Singh Thanks for the question in relation to the cue rotating. Slight rotation of the cue is not a problem as long as you cue in a straight line, this will not affect the shot. Excessive rotation is generally caused by some abnormality in the grip, e.g. inversion of the wrist. This is more likely to be the source of any problems.

Hey Bary Loved all your videos, great work. I have several questions firstly, if I am short do this mean I have to hold the cue lot further from the end of the cue? secondly, Is there any need of changing grip while playing different intensity of shots or I can stick with the same grip for slow or fast shots?

Your physical stature will have a bearing on where you hold the cue, my video on where to hold the cue will explain this better than I can by words alone. Please pay attention to where your bridge hand is positioned, whether you are playing with a straight or bent bridge arm and lastly where your hold the cue to give you the recommended 6 inches of follow through. Varying the formation of the grip will give you unnecessary alterations and possible problems, there will however be slightly inevitable varying degrees of firmness in the grip, brought about by the contrast between gentle and power shots.

Hello Sir, When I put my chin on the Cue and then play the shot my cue is gone offline. Is it necessary to put my chin on the cue to play the shot? Can I lift my chin slightly up to play the shot? Please help
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 6 лет назад
zaid. Putting your chin on the cue is an aid to sighting, but trying to keep it on throughout the shot will often cause tension. However, I don't quite see how putting your chin on the cue causes it to go offline, there is obviously something else that is not quite right and you need to have a close look at your cueing technique.

Thanks for the response sir. I sort out my mistake, the problem is not with the cue putting on the chin, its with the grip hand and soon I will overcome this problem.

I practice from the spot. Either with a ball or no ball my cue tip tends to go left. It is making me nuts trying to stop this.

Jeffrey. Its possible that you do not have enough room between your cueing hand and the body, there are three ways to adjust this. 1/ move your grip hand back. 2/ move your bridge hand forward. 3/ bend you bridge arm. Be careful here though don't make massive adjustments, its often better t alter all three very slightly rather than anyone a lot. If that doesn't work try cueing without using the chest for support to see if you can spot the problem before putting the chest back on the cue.

Barry Stark Snooker Coach thank you so much. I believe it was my back arm moving away from my body. Now the hard part is to stop it.

Sir pls explain me the use of back pause.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 4 года назад
davesh. There are a few reasons for the pause. 1/ It helps to keep the cue action smooth during the transition of back swing to forward drive of the cue. 2 It aids concentration before cue delivery. 3/ It allows ample time to lift the eyes to the object ball before playing the shot.

Then what happens with the body u cant move your body you hitting hand has no space to hit
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach

Ihsan. When the position of the balls necessitate you to move the bridge hand, the grip hand should also move. When it is moved as the video describes there will be ample room to play the shot.
