I’ve run an electrical pump for over 10 years best thing I ever did. I ran one of those little filters for a bit but they can’t handle the vibration and shake apart on the inside filling the carb up with crap!!! Don’t ask me how I know lol. I never had to run a bypass just straight to the carb. The pump I used looks the same as your a faucet 2 to 4 psi.

@RhinoRider2006 3 года назад
Hey thanks for watching, I will start looking for a metal filter or re-locate the little one to some place that does not vibrate. Thanks for the tip. if it blows and plugs the carb, even the old pump will not get it going. I used a by pass on my hot rod so I will stay with that.

@@RhinoRider2006 could get enough fuel for it to run with the bypass. Tried it had to vise grip off the return line so I could get it past 50 km

Thanks for that, Have not had it up to that speed yet, will remember the tips, thanks

I teed in an electric fuel pump on my Rhine 660 as with only the vacuum pump it would take over five crank attempt before it would start when cold. I have it switched on the dash and when I want to start the engine, I just flick the switch and with just a touch of the key, it starts instantly. After I've run for a bit, I turn the electric pump off and only use the vacuum pump. I now have a back up fuel pump if needed and don't have to worry about killing the battery. What a relief, I should have done this years ago!

When I developed problems with my vacuum pump. I plumbed in an electric and wired it to the starter, it only engaged when I hit the starter. Worked great, winter starting was a breeze fired right up. I now have it as the only pump. I did that for performance as the vacuum pump performs badly in any kind of warm weather. Thanks for watching

Awesome job! In my opinion this is the best way to have the fuel system on the 660 rhinos.

hey Blake do you know where to find the fuse for the dash board 12 volt plug in for the gps? what size fuse is it? I spent an hour under the hood with a tester and could not find it.that's the DC plugin

@blakehicks813 3 года назад
@@RhinoRider2006 I’m not sure to be honest. I cut the wire to my 12v plug in and ran it to a switch and put my own inline fuse so I’m not using the factory positive wire to power the 12plug
@RhinoRider2006
@RhinoRider2006 3 года назад
@@blakehicks813 I jumped off the outlet wire as that is tied to the key, at my age and poor memory, I know I would forget to turn off the pump. I want to know where the fuse is so I can check on its capacity. also in case it blows. I have an emergency switch in my dash not wired to anything.I have had to use it to get my fan going once a few years ago. the thermostatic switch died on me.I was 30 km into the forest with only a gallon of extra water. Okay thanks. the best I got before this was " In the battery Box" 3 fuses there.
@RhinoRider2006
@RhinoRider2006 3 года назад
@@blakehicks813 I found the fuse box ( there is one) it is below the positive pole one the battery. it is long and if you look close you will see to hinges. it opens from the other side. The Dc jack outlet is number 3 a 10amp. Do you have the Yamaha Technicians shop manual? If you do not, go to my face book page and ask to be friends. then you can message. I will send you my email and then you can send me yours. I will email the manual. I have the 700 and 660. FB is Don Ewart. when you open it my hot rod is the picture pulling the front wheels up

Great video! I keep hearing about the electric fuel pump mod but I am going to try to make the stock pump work. Were your fuel lines heat wrapped to maybe stop heat transfer into the fuel? I haven’t tried mine out yet still building it but I think my cold starts will be fine. I drilled out the stock #60 starter jet in the carb. I’m guessing it’s around 100 now and it fires the second I touch the key now but if i don’t turn choke off right away it’ll stall from to much fuel. A #85 jet would probably be better then again at -20 everything will be good i’m sure. My machine is the Chinese version and it has a round fuel pump. Looks to be a mikuni clone. I bought a hi flow fuel pump incase this thing dies. Would like to keep it all mechanical. I wrapped my exhaust pipes with heat wrap plus the larger rad,oil cooler relocate so the whole thing should run cooler might be enough to keep that pump from vapour locking? I wonder if a heat shield around the pump might help or moving it higher up on the roll cage? Time will tell I guess. One last question. Does it only vapour lock after you shut the machine off or while driving?

Thanks for watching. I got a low flow fuel pump from NAPA. Remember to put in the return line. I also put in a separate switch so if I flooded it, I could turn tyhe pump off. has nhappened a few time until I figured out how to start it.

Thank you for Watching.I found that it starts way better than before. Depending on how cold, it takes a bit in the severe cold. I let the pump run a couple of seconds before hitting the starter. Also use the choke

Mine was converted to the electric pump with the tee to return the excess to the tank. They had to add a shut off switch because gas would start coming out the bottom of the carb. Could the pressure be so much as to keep the float valve open in the carb?
@RhinoRider2006
@RhinoRider2006 2 года назад
In my opinion I would say too much pressure. I installed a Low Flow pump.

I installed one on my rhino and it starts great but when I drive it, it dies rather quickly like it is starving for fuel. Starts right back up fine. Am I possibly getting to much return to the tank and not to the carb under load? Any ideas on how to fix would be great.
@RhinoRider2006
@RhinoRider2006 3 года назад
Hey, thanks for watching. Here are some things I would check or do.Try the choke when you notice it trying to die out. does the bike pick up again? Is your return line same size as the filler? Is your pump level or angled? Is your fill line unobstructed? Is your pump getting enough power when running under load? Where did you power it from?
@RhinoRider2006
@RhinoRider2006 2 года назад
Thanks for watching, in my opinion, if the fuel lines are all the same size, should not matter. I would look at the delivery.

I have a quick question. I installed a low flow electric fuel pump on my 660 Rhino. it runs great but when it idles is acts like I may be getting to much fuel. When it starts to die I can turn off the fuel pump and it will idle. What could be the problem? Also I noticed that when you was test driving your Rhino sound pretty quiet. What have you done to make it quiet.

So I watched your video and basically copied what you did. Question, where did you wire it up? I can't find any info on this. Not sure if I should go from the battery to a switch, or splice into the ignition wire? Also, what pump did you go with? I bought a Mr. Gasket 2-3.5psi pump and it stopped after 5 mins. I am going back to get the Edlebrock 4-7 psi. Just hoping its not too much fuel pressure
@RhinoRider2006

Hey, thanks for watching.. I ran the power through a relay which I mounted beside the fuel tank, then I ran the wiring under the tunnel. I ran to switch, the power to the switch is on the ignition. The reason for the switch is so if I flood it ( I have done it a few times) I can shut the pump off. the reason I went to the ignition is so I cannot leave the pump running when I shut the bike down. I got a Low flow pump from Napa. I only use the choke a little when I start it cold, once it fires I put the foot feed down some and take the choke off. Mine runs really good, have put on about 30 hours since I did this, only problem was me flooding it, I know how to start it now so no more problems. I used a coat hanger to fish the wire through the tunnel.I am not at home or I would include a picture of the relay setup. If you have any other questions shoot them out.

@RhinoRider2006
@RhinoRider2006 3 года назад
Thanks for watching, If you have ANY technical ability with working on the Rhino or anything, watch the video, it is pretty straight forward. Look at the electric fuel pump you will see where it is mounted, look where the vacuum pump was, you will see it is not there. If you do not know how to wire in a switch then I suggest that you have somebody do it for you as you may burn down your machine. I am not be fetishist or arrogant, this is really straight forward. I learned how to do it by looking at the set up from someone else's video, it was shot after the fact as well.
