This is such a big house, there's so many of these old pipes. But we are making quite an effort here, almost all of them are gone!

My name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, I am on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895. Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to fit in in our Italian surroundings, were the word 'plan' gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened.
The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we're at it.

I have to admire your patience and tenacity in winning this battle of the pipes! I have to wonder what kind of insane person(s) installed every pipe with a kink or turn involved within every path through the concrete walls. Absolutely bonkers! You, on the other hand, with your grit, perseverance, and utter determination, are about to overcome their rediculouse pipe maze! Bravo!🎉

Removing the old pipes is a great thing to do. I've worked with enough old houses where previous owners had rewired and replumbed but left all the old stuff in place. It was often difficult to sort out what was still in use and what was not. In future years, you'll be glad you did this work. And so will any subsequent owners.

Watching your gardening. Anytime you tear out ivy, you'll want to dig down deep enough to remove all the roots. You need to sift the soil to get rid of it. It grows right back so fast it will make your head spin. Plant herbs in pots as if you don't, they will spread all over.

For tomatoes, you should buy budding plants, not seeds! *SWEET 100* (North American) gives cherry tomatoes every day, while other types give tomatoes only at the end of the growing season! I always buy strawberry plants that are budding - usually in hangers. I wonder what you can find at a Nursery or Garden Center!!

I have the best hopes for your garden, but the first good rain will wash your work away with that slope. You need some straw to cover it... anything.

I would have removed all the roots of the brambles too before planting they will be back if you don't totally get rid of them.other than that love your progress can't wait to see what you tackle next

Doing a little in the garden every now and then between all of the heavier work, is a great way of seeing some other spaces start to change for the better. The garden especially makes a great difference to the villa.👍

It would have been better if you had filled your garden beds. There are still so many roots in there. Add a layer of compost on top and the plant your seedlings.

Really like that house, but -big house, means lots of work .... Terrible eco in there tho - had that problem in a community hall, so we put a sound dampering roof in It, made all the difference ....

You have solar panels, sure, but if you have to install heating ducts, no sense filling old cavities just yet. Do you have natural gas or liquid propane available in your region? I'd like to know how you intend to heat that whole place. This will be interesting to watch.

Hi I must ask, why on earth are you taking the heating system away? What I can see when you cut the pipes are they in god condition. So why? Have you put pressure in the system and looked for any Leaks? If not why not just put in an air-water heating pump Just wonder😊

Oh dear, I think you need to learn more first about growing, sowing, how to balance your soil etc first, the easiest for you I feel would be no dig planting, look it up please, I feel that’s a waste of edibles seeds you just threw on the floor. Although by trial and error is part of the process of learning 😂
