This video should be shown to all woodworking show-offs who practice dove-tails with paper-thin pins "just to prove they were hand made"!

I won't cheat and tell the answer, but I learned one version of the "four dovetails" from my father. He machined the joint out of brass as an "optical illusion" for fun in his shop. Wonderful video! So many people use their educational videos as a way to show off their skill. You have taken the better road: teaching principles. Thank you. Just an FYI, found your channel from Rex's "woodworking for humans" series. He was right about you! Hope for nothing but success, and looking forward to seeing more!

Thank you for sharing principles with us. This will help develop better understanding of where to cut and where to stop. Plus, looking forward to seeing the end to end dovetails you showed us. Well done.

Really loving these videos from a true master of the craft. I’m only a hobbyist myself, but I’m really interested in learning more about the practice of making those joints (especially those half through-dovetails and the “bevelled” lap joint) to help hone my own skills. Looking forward to the next videos!

Thanks Graham - I had never considered that the strength of the joint is effected by the size of the components themselves - definately something im going to think about on future projects. Great video.

On a restoration job of a house from the 1940s (I think), I found the interior window casings, which were a "colonial" style, were a mitered half lap. That's the only time I've seen it. The sparse proportions of modern moldings probably make it impossible now

Why is it than, that so many dovetail joints are so off balance? I am from Germany and here we make the pins and the tails equally. By the way, looks much better for me too.
