This is an excellent breakdown. I believe glycolysis reactions preceded the formation of protocells on Earth in the early Archaean eon, so I'm very fascinated by the thermodynamic favorability of each step in this phase. I wonder if it was possible to 'capture' the necessary conditions & enzymes in non-living lipid bilayers before true cells had formed to specifically regulate, and code for them.
