Delta operates one of the largest active fleets of aircraft and is a significant player not just in the global aviation industry but acts as one of the big three within the United States, as such it has an important responsibility to provide customers with adequate means of transportation, especially in the forms of the latest technology and cabin product. In 2023, what aircraft does the airline operate, what's in storage and what types are beginning to age more than others?

I flew on some of those 717-200s when they were AirTran planes. I liked them. Then Southwest bought AirTran and the 717s were sold to Delta because Southwest is all 737s. I don’t think I’ve been on a Delta 717 ever, though Delta is my usual airline. Haven’t flown since 2019 though. The Delta MD-88s were my usual rides on Delta for years, flying from Florida to ATL and ATL to elsewhere.

Before Delta and Northwest merged, Delta only flew MD and Boeing aircraft Northwest only had Boeing 747s and 757s, the rest of their fleet consisted of DC 9s, and Airbus aircraft including the A330s. The 717s came to Delta via the Southwest Airlines acquisition of AirTran. Southwest didn't want the 717s so they agreed to lease them to Delta, which saw this as an opportunity to shed some regional aircraft.

Agree! The 777 is important for routes like ATL-JNB, HNL, CPT, and HND. The A350s just don’t have the range quite like the 777s do. I wish they would have just stored the 777s until it was time to lease them or perhaps lease them to a freight company and get them back when the lease is up.

Rumor mill has it that Delta 🔺 wanted to originally get a deal on their 737 max deal but due to the contract the other airlines had they couldn’t get a deal unless Boeing also cut a deal with all the other airlines that had already purchased them so apparently they might be in talks about Boeing moving the “deal” to the 787 Dreamliners instead and that would be a great replacement for their aging 767. Where are the electric jets? Or is it ok to burn kerosene by the ton while people are forced and coerced to buy EVs? Cheers

imo commercial electric planes will not work, or at least not well. Remember that conventional aircraft burn off fuel and this increases their range. Electric planes do not lose any weight as they fly. Maybe I'm a curmudgeon but we all have plenty of experiences of batteries suddenly dying. No thanks.
