Greetings! The girls asked if we could make a cake for dessert so that is exactly what we are going to do.
This is a super simple yellow cake from scratch that is easy an 1-2-3-4! You can also use this recipe to build off of and create other delicious versions such as chocolate, red velvet, cherry, lemon, orange and the list goes on.

Vanilla extract is a liquid that is an alcohol base where the vanilla flavor has been extracted from the beans. The vanilla paste is a product that is thick and somewhat sweet where the entire vanilla pod is cooked down and the vanilla specks are present and it is unfiltered. You use it the same way measure for measure.

There are as many 1-2-3-4 cake recipes as there are people who make them. I like the sour cream/milk because it makes for a more tender crumb and the corn starch turns your all purpose flour into a sort of cake flour. It lightens the flour mixture and gives it a bit of a loft and softness/moistness.

I don't have tv at home so when I'm at the Drs office I sit there mesmerized lol like a trance..today was a show with Rachael Rae, it was all about bacon they made something that looked like a grilled bacon sandwich with bacon gravy then gave the audience packages of cookies, chocolate chocolate, chocolate chip& something else but they all had bacon in them. I immediately thought of Rick lol. Her guest on the show was some guy that made everything w/ bacon lol even cake.

My husband and I purchased Bill Cosby's records when they first came out! Can you tell how old I am now? LOL We loved him then, and still love hearing him. Do you know his one about Noah? Really funny, and I think it's on RU-vid too. Great cake, it's one of the only things my father ever cooked, besides the Christmas Ham. 1234 cakes were very big in the 30's and 40's too. I think you just convinced me to make one too! Looks so yummy. mmmmm

Those are nothing more than seasonal plastic placemats that I never pay more than a dollar for. I use them as a cutting surface on top of my white restaurant NFS board that rests over the unused basin on my sink giving me more prep space in my small kitchen. I like the placemats because when they get dirty I can put them in the dishwasher or if they get worn I can just toss them and get some pretty new ones.

I have 2 kitchen aid mixers, one is 25 years old and STILL works beautifully, and the other is 2 years old and is noticeably "cheaper" feeling, yes....there is a difference. Thanks China. But the mixer I see here is the larger one, and it sounds scratchy LOUD! Ugh....what do you think Noreen?

I always notice a large seasonal board across your kitchen sink. Can you share what these are, love that extra work area. Cake looked great, but I NEVER have any left over frosting, I toss it all on the cake anyhow lol Thanks!

How do you keep your frosting from peeling up the top layer of the cake? Every time I ice a cake - completely cooled - it will rip up the top of the cake and my icing will have bits of cake mixed in with it. Drives me nuts!!
