The 1/2" ram pump is a great tool for getting water from the creek to your animals. I install a 1/2" hydraulic ram pump with 3 feet of input head pressure to lift water to a water trough so that two donkeys can have plenty of fresh water to drink. I use poly pipe for both the drive pipe and the delivery pipe. A drill pump is used to fill the pipes with little effort.

Nicely done. I see a drain fitting in the bottom side of the of the stock tank. An overflow like you have on your storage tanks at home would keep the water fresh and might help move sediment from the bottom.

I miss those hydro videos, man. Are we gonna get anything on hydro soon? Those videos were bangers and some of the best on youtube. Not invalidating your solar and ramp pump videos.

I got some 3/4" poly pipe that I can connect to the hydro penstock. I want to make some videos with smaller alternative hydro power. It would be fun to make some 12v hydro systems to power the tiny house.

Yeah on RU-vid whenever you search for "micro hydro" you are likely to be greeted with Land to House's Micro hydro videos first before any other. If he can observe well he get more views on these kind of vids "original contents" than those reviews.

What if we use a ram pump in a loop by using a water pump that doesn't lift water? The motion of the water runs the ramp pump and that captures massive air pressure in a tank. Is the air pressure greater than the water pump?

I never have a problem starting mine I always have a problem keeping it running overnight it'll always likes to shut off but then start right back up again

Don't open outflow all the way. Try 3/4 open and see if it will continue running.

There are normally 3 things you can do to keep the pump going. 1: reduce the input head pressure some. 2: increase the height of the output. 3: slightly crack the delivery pipe ball valve to introduce back pressure. (as suggested by mikewhite. This method can be tricky to find the right amount of open.)

Yes that method can work. It is sometimes tricky to find the right amount of open for the valve.

@@mikewhite9993 I've tried it quarterway open 1/2 open 3/4 of the way open all the way open sometimes it runs better just quarter of the way open but then sometimes it'll also run like it's running right now all the way open

@@gumbystown I had an issue where my happens. Ramp drew more water than I was collecting. And then it would stop and it's top open if it stopped open all that water just rushed through bypassing the rest of the crick until it came off the waist valve. If it's stopped closed, I'd be able to start a rake back up

After the float valve stops the water flow, I'm guessing the pump will continue to run to a certain amount of pressure is built up. When pressure is released by the float valve will the pump start up again?

Because this system is not pumping with much head pressure there is no issue with the float valve. Sometimes if you have higher head pressure systems you can build enough pressure when the delivery valve is closed that the pump stops when it is reopened quickly.

The 1/2" ram pump is going to use 2gpm to operate. It needs that running water to keep it going. The pump can be used from a tank but the waste water consumes a lot and the tank will be empty fast.
