In the video I'm using version XF TX BETA v2.08 on the module. Betaflight 3.2RC5 and OpenTX 2.2.
"The TBS CROSSFIRE is a long range R/C link based on the newest RF technology, capable of self-healing two-way communications and range beyond comprehension. With a sensitivity of -130dB, full RF-side diversity, tiny receivers for FPV quads, the TBS CROSSFIRE contains the most modern technology to provide a superior long range control link."
The link to the SD card contents is downloads.open-tx.org/2.2/nigh...

BTW with betaflight F3 FC you can wire CRSF RX to UART2 which has the RX pin physically/electrically connected to the SBUS pin. this frees up uart 1 and 3 for other peripherals,

Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing! The cable with servo connector (from micro receiver to your FC), is that custom made? Mine didn't come with that cable, and the TBS servo adapter is bulky/added weight.

First: you make great video instructions! Seeing that TBS makes all the products for a whole package, and I haven't found videos for their latest combo, I would love to see you make a video about Vendetta II with Crossfire Micro, Immortal T and the Tango. I think it's the ultimate premium RTF package out there

Hi +Painless360, I always love the high quality of your videos, great work! I have a small addition to your Crossfire antenna recommendation: to actually make full use of the diversity receiver, the two antennas need to be positioned 90 degrees apart, one preferably lying flat as does the TX antenna. This way the theoretical signal loss is only sin(PI/4), which is about 0.7 times the full signal strength. If you have the two antennas placed like you have in the video, not only is the signal strength low to start with (since you have them vertical and the radio antenna horizontal), but will a rotation of your aircraft not benefit of the dual antenna setup. Anyways, looking forward to part 2!
@Painless360
@Painless360 6 лет назад
Thanks for the comment. I am planning to spend more time on it in the next video as 90 degree gives better signal quality as you move the craft but lessens max range. Thanks again for the post! :D
@JeroenBrosens
@JeroenBrosens 6 лет назад
Interesting to know what makes you think that. This doesn't extend your range - that's affected by antenna gain (and to a certain degree transmitting power). Two identical parallel antennas perform precisely the same as one: if you bank your aircraft *both* signals drop, whereas in a properly placed 90 degree setup, there will always be one antenna that is oriented towards your transmitter more optimal than the other. You will also get a noticable improvement in range when you use a directional antenna on your transmitter, but then you'll have to keep facing your aircraft. Do you fly long range FPV? The Crossfire is a very good system to do so, but then longe range video also becomes a thing (diversity the other way round!). Keep it up!

Charles R Taylor not sure why? ;) I talked a little about this in the second 'answers' video. For longer range you need to use 2.4 or 1.3 Gigahertz FPV with a good directional antenna and as much power as is legal in your area. When the FPV blue stuff gets a little cheaper, that might be worth a look too. Happy flying!

Those with problems on windows 10 mission planner connection, but ok with smartphone and tablet read the following : After pairing the Bluetooth successfully, in the W10 BT screen, click "more Bluetooth options" then "COM ports". Delete both incoming and outgoing about the crossfire then click add and select outgoing on the Crossfire then OK. You will end up with a single com port for it, open mission planner and connect, should work. I will make a video tomorrow

LQ, RSSI and mixed LQRssi in the betaflight OSD How to interpret LQ and RSSI on the OSD (0 to 99) And how to interpret the mix of LQ and RSSI Antenna placement of the micro rx, straight line or V/L shape? For me only straight line worked well maybe because it is a dipole and the V and L shape is used for the diversity reciever? Nice video. Now, how would you go about using your other non-Crossfire RX's ? Is this a dedicated system once installed? So, that you can only use the Crossfire system? I guess my question basically is, what do I do when I want to use my XM+, or RXSR receivers? It sure would be an expensive endeavor having to dedicate that one radio for Crossfire, or having to change all my receivers to crossfire...? Again, very nice video and I'm "SUBBED" :) Best

if youre in europe get the eu version rest of the world prefer international version, no you cannot use a 900mhz antenna with a 868mhz, they are tuned for different frequencies, on the module itself you can just change fw suiting your location.

@robbvk6es

not so much for long range , rather it has better penetration for reliable coverage in areas that 2.4 has problems. e.g. dense brush, concrete buildings etc.
@Painless360

The main advantage for a racing quad is the increase in speed over s-bus and the extra features the full duplex operation will give us when it's working (in BF 3.3 hopefully).

Hiya. Thank you for this clear video. I have a question... say i have the 'full' size crossfire tx (2Watt) and i plug it into my dji fpv remote (into the 3.5mm ppm output jack) is it possible to get telemetry from the aircraft back to the crossfire tx ? My aim is to use the crossfire module with the dji remote ( to get the benefits of a good/solid long range radio link that is better than dji) but also get telemetry back to the crossfire tx ( which i can connect to an android tablet via bluetooth and then plot the position of the drone on a map on a using Telemetry viewer app).

Two questions for the next instalment: 1) Wouldn't you be better-off just running SBUS rather than slowing down the CRSF protocol to 1/4 speed? Wouldn't SBUS then be slightly faster? And; 2) Can you still receive telemetry when you run SBUS, or can you only receive LQ through CRSF? ??? Thanks in advance! My TBS Crossfire is on order (I literally *just* placed the order earlier tonight), now I only have to wait until the micro receivers are back in stock. :)
@Painless360
@Painless360 6 лет назад
Those are quick ones - 1) |The whole point of CRSF is that's it's bi-directional and very fast. You need that to 'talk' to the module for setup from the LUA script.. S-Bus is only used at the far end to talk to non CRSF enabled flight controllers. 2) see the answer on the other comment you posted :D

EzUHF works on 433 MHz, 1.3GHz is on the 3rd harmonic (4x433~1.3G), in other words, your VTx is interfering with your EzUHF receiver. Use either another RC frequency or another video band. Just always make sure that your video frequency divided by your RC frequency isn't a whole number.

MAVLink was one of the initial development goals/uses for this system. You can configure two of the pins on the Crossfire Rx to be MAVlink TX and MAVlink Rx and then connect those to the port on the flight controller sending the MAVlink telemetry. Then you can share that MAVlink data using Bluetooth with any device (only on the full size Crossfire TX module). Then you can connect to it with your device running Mission Planner/QGroundControl using that BT link and have all of your MAVLink telemetry and control over KM of range.. :D I'll cover this in the third video in the series..

I had that problem before. The button on the back of the Micro TX is very finicky about how long you press it. You need to press it once very quickly, then power on the RX. It should be in bind mode. If the light in the TX is blue the firmware on the RX needs to be updated. Just. Press the button again, very quickly and it will start the process of binding and updating. Hope that helps. It was driving me mad at 1st! If you press the button even a split second longer on the micro tx, it won't enter bind mode

How can I get the Hero session 4 video feed from the quad copter to mission planner hud ? Is there such a thing as a wifi transmitter I can setup on the drone that will connect to the camera and send the feed to a receiver I can install to the pc , and get the signal to the mission planner hud ? Anyone know ? I need part numbers ! Or do I have to install an separate FPV system , and just turn the go pro on record when I take off ?
@Painless360

+Noah Wheeler you'll need a cable that will take the video- out from the camera and put it into a standard FPV transmitter. There are lots of details about how you then plug an FPV video receiver into a computer via some kind of video capture device that will allow you to then have the video in Mission planner. Hope that helps

When I run the crossfire.lua my TBS CORE PRO V2 also appears with my Tx & Rx? Will the Taranis control the Core, i.e. if using the quads OSD to change settings the video Tx is locked on 25mW unless a call-sign is displayed then you're able to increase video power, however if changing via Taranis crossfire.lua it allows you to increase video Tx setting whether call-sign is shown or not?Also what is the device.lua in the Crossfire folder? If I run it I get an error in script?
@Painless360

+James Nathaniel things are changing very quickly with this technology. CRSF as a bidirectional telemetry connection will allow you to control anything at the far end with the right LUA script and that support is expected in Betaflight in 3.3. If you're having a problem then I'd recommend having a quick look in the forum or raising a ticket with TBS for help. I'll add this to the list of things to talk about in a future video.

Would you consider doing a comparison review with the R9M module from FrSKY? Module is $50, R9 is $55 and the R9 Slim is $25. I've had really good results with my updated R9M and R9 receiver... Starting to think everyone is affiliated or sponsored by TBS/doesn't want to talk about it.
@Painless360
@Painless360 6 лет назад

@windwalkerfpv

Thank you, it would be great to see an honest review/comparison. I have no Crossfire but really like my setup. Also, what would you need LUA script for, FrSKY has R9M settings built in the radio setup page so you can change power settings, telemetry, etc... Obviously no CRSF but has SBUS, Also I see signs that FrSKY will be improving protocols like F.Port/releasing a lower latency PWM as featured on the RX8R Pro receiver.

See my kit picks video from last summer for radio choices (I will be doing an update to it in a months time so it is a little out of date), FrSky seem to be making some odd choices when it comes to the inverters they are using in their radios that mean that you can't run the Crossfire system at full speed, despite them knowing about the problem.
