The fact that I still use my Tango2 every time I go flying (despite having a wide array of other RC systems with me) says a lot for the TBS brand and products. We should all remember that Trappy was pivotal in helping create and shape the whole FPV scene. Nice guy, mostly pretty good products.
@Chilternflyer
@Chilternflyer Год назад
Yep! He shaped the hobby by posting videos flying low over the public in crowded places, low over busy roads full of traffic, along bridges (carrying traffic) and diving tall buildings with busy streets below them. Nothing unsafe about any of that. Then he ended up on court. Thank you Trappy for giving the US government a great excuse to set the FAA on us.
@xjet
@xjet Год назад
@@Chilternflyer Sorry, I don't buy that. How many people were injured? How many died? How much property was destroyed or damaged? Oh... ZERO? Do you really believe the claims of a regulator that has repeatedly refused to do an independent scientific risk analysis of these sorts of operations when they say "too dangerous"? Do you really believe that Trappy's actions were more dangerous than those proposed by the FAA which include flying masses of huge delivery drones or air-taxis over people's houses and heads? Trust me, *this* will result in injury, death and property destruction but somehow it's okay? Our hobby remains the safest form of aviation every engaged in.

IMHO one things TBS _needs_ to add to their Receivers is what Radiomaster just did with their new ExpressLRS Lineup and that is the absolutely crucial VBat Telemetry readout capability. I find it ridiculous that as a CrossFire User I have to rely on third party MatekSys Adapter Boards to get such functionality when apparently it is possible to have something like that available on a Receiver itself with the use of a single V+ Cable 😑

9 Months later - still thinking, what's going on. Video wise, I moved to DJI O3. Still controlling by stuff, even the big wings, with my beloved Tango2. But I'm more and more thinking, if this has future. ELRS grew, it became mature and stable. What's left? There is currently no small Radio with the build quality of the Tango2. But 10 years ago, I had a Tango1 with Crossfire, a TBS VTX, TBS Cam, TBS Antenna, TBS Table, TBS Powercube. Most of the things are gone. No Betaflight Support for Powercube anymore, no digital VTX, no news from Crossfire. The folding table is still there, and the Tango2. Sad...

If the tracer TX and RX hardware are compatible with ELRS, it would be very smart for TBS to come out with a firmware update to convert tracer hardware to ELRS. Since the Tracer system doesn’t have any traction on the market, TBS would make way more money if they made their Tracer hardware run ELRS firmware. Even if the TBS RX and TX are a little more expensive compared to other ELRS RX and TX, it would sell because TBS has much better support.

TBS has shown me the greatest customer service out of any company i have ever dealt with. I bought my tango 2 pro from a 3rd party seller on amazon that had absolutely no affiliation with TBS whatsoever, and yet, when i encountered an issue, TBS worked tirelessly to solve it for me and even sent me a new mainboard for my radio completely for free. they didn't have to do any of that, so they certainly bought my loyalty there. not to mention that crossfire just works. In my opinion crossfire still is best system for anyone running ardupilot. You want the serial link to interact and work with a groudstations to change settings and such. ELRS method of a seperate rxtx as a data link is not the right method for me. Also being able to update the crossfire TX with new firmware and all receivers being able to download the new firmware from the TX is amazingly simple compared to each elrs receiver having to be updated on their own through the pc. TBS still has a good thing going for now.

I'm sure, like many here, I started FPV with Spektrum. Didn't know any better, just assumed that since I'd spent many hundreds of dollars on my DX-9s, that I had a 'forever' radio. I SOON found out that this naïve belief would result in an unwelcome aspect of my newly found FPV career, HIKING...aka SEARCH AND RESCUE aka: Poison Oak, bloodied arms and legs, Rattlesnakes, and falls. lol. After like the 20th such hike in a narrow canyon rescuing a quad, and stumbling upon a perfectly camouflaged partially subterranean camp/home occupied by an angry, homicidal, screaming maniac 'hermit'... I said, "Enough". Switched to Crossfire on all 8 of my quads at that time, and never looked back. And we never had another failsafe. Today with almost 30 quads, all Crossfire, my son and I have successfully flown thousands of flights in extreme places and conditions, never losing one piece of gear, or experiencing failsafes. I work in tech and electronics... to me, this is astounding reliability and rigor of design. Crossfire for life here, for all of our hobby, scientific and risky endeavors. This is great news. I'm glad they've worked it all out.

This is great news for all of those TOOLS who ran out and got TBS logo tattoo. My Tango 2 is a paper weight. It was always junk and they would never replace it. They just kept insisting I try this and that and the other. Then they decided it was junk and sent me a whole new board TO INSTALL MYSELF. That would be great if I had ever even been able to use the radio to fly a drone, but brand new they should have agreed that I would send mine back for repairs or replacement instead of sending me a whole new board to install myself. Like I have time for repairing their junk. I never flew a drone with it. Never used the radio. No matter what we tried I could never get a good LQ unless I was within 6 feet of the drone. I tried everything with the guidance of Mike C and still I never got it working and they never would replace it. F them.

Disagree with binning Tracer. If you look at all the feedback on ELRS everyone says the initial friction to get into it is quite difficult. One of the biggest selling points for Crossfire is that it’s far easier. So, if they improve the RC link capability of Tracer through firmware, get it on all of their BNF deals with manufacturers- their selling point for Tracer, is “Easy ELRS”. Even at the higher price point, people will pay for convenience. Although the price difference between ELRS and Crossfire has decreased.

Or like axis flying, they can release ELRS products with higher end components, happymodel makes cheap modules but they aren’t the greatest quality (at least they are not betafpv kind of trash, but that’s another topic).

Tango2 is my Goto... So nice I bought it twice... My Boxer is ok... I do crossfire for 3.5" and up... ELRS for whoops... would love the new Mango to come out. with internal crossfire and tracer or ELRS. 900 for bigger 2.4 for micros.... just need the shoulder arm button to be a little nicer....

TBS's New York video blew my mind and got me into FPV. Not straight way - I couldn't afford it at the time, but it stuck in my mind and when i had some spare cash. Trappy seems like a nice guy and very entertaining and charismatic. | And their support has been excellent. I've sent components back from the Powercube as well as a couple of HVs and they repair them and send them back. I hope TBS stays alive . Glad Trappy has the helm (sticks) and hope TBS stays around to help keep us flying.

They messed up by not working with RDQ. When I started looking for an upgrade from D16 I searched RDQ for their TX and went with something else. 🤷 Pride can create more trouble than it's worth.

I could tell TBS was a fly-by-night sorta homebrew treasure chest of products that could be awesome and then went semi-full production retail. It's almost like if I started a company and it got popular, but I had no idea what I was doing, which I don't. That actually appeals to me! However, I always hovered over the "buy" button knowing this. I noticed over the years the hype, traffic, stock, etc on the TBS site was getting thin and I started to distance myself from it. But, it never fully disappeared. It has been an interesting case study in the retail world, FPV in general, how to do business, etc. That being said, I don't think I've purchased anything from TBS, lol. Whatever. Time to charge a battery.

Any plans to integrate a TBS Crossfire plug on flight controllers? Or maybe integrate the Nano receiver into a flight controller? It's too bad the DJI 03 air unit has such a poor controller2 to go with it. It really forces everyone to remove sbus and go with Crossfire or ELRS. A sub 250 build would really benefit from an integrated control link without the extra boards, wires, tiny solder joints, and antenna.

In March, I bought a Tango II to start my FPV journey. I was not, and still cannot manage to get it to calibrate correctly. After several frustrating and unsuccessful email exchanges with Mike at TBS, I gave up. I bought a Radiomaster Boxer which had perfect calibration right out of the box.

I finally gave up on TBS after their equipment broke yet again on my vacation. This is 2 for 2. And no stock available to buy anywhere. Just bought a starter kit for ELRS so i don't have to be dependent on a specific company being around for me to fly.

TBS was just way to extensive due to lack of concurrency. So they would deserve to die completely because of artifical high prices.

Keypoint is that ELRS has no proper certification for the EU which means they might run LBT and only 100 mW but there is more. And then you only have TBS crossfire left cause Trappy has to arrive safely in the EU and Switzerland without issues like other chinese brand owners that are not expecting trouble at the customs when they are held responsible. I have started ELRS again after a first adventure over 2 years ago with that R9 module from fr sky I had tried to flash and was not really convinced cause it was a long a winding road. But my Crossfire system with 3 receivers in total will stay with me which I had ordered in those glory old days before shortage & inflation and other nightmare for 220€ as a kit with a Radiomaster TX16S. And I still love it and I was really happy to hear the story and what was going on that caused the slow down or stall of tbs. Trappy has lost a former business friend and has learned a lot from that, so he might be keen to develope the brand now alone without being chained to a partner who does not agree or work against it in his back. I hope that at chrismas we will have seen some changes, upgrades, improvements too simply to start buying early the next kit.

TBS is not what it used to be… Their customer support is not the same, and like I said, they’re just not what they used to be. If they would’ve kept up with the awesome customer support they USED to give than they would had kept a lot more customers. ELRS has been treating me way too good to go back.

I hope so bad they do stuff with the mom. I really love the Ergonomics Month the radio but I feel what is inferior to the boxer to the point where I don’t even use my mama anymore. I had major quality issues with it when it first arrived and required main board replacement. I would love to see the mambo brought up to the current times with either crossfire or ELRS. And would love to see Edge TX instead of freedom TX.

I only had two failsafes in 6 years on CRSF. ELRS 2.4ghz failsafes way more often for me. Tried two different brand transmitters and receivers. CRSF is just more robust.

i've got about 5+ years on my Crossfire Mini starter kit. It has been flawless. It just works. My biggest disappointment with the mambo is having to run my crossfire module in it. i just want a simple full figured crossfire remote with nice gimbals that i don't need to run a module in.
