An analysis of the themes and letitmotifs of the Lord of the Rings - The Complete Recordings; composed, orchestrated and conducted by Howard Shore. The videos stay true to how the tunes are presented in The Complete Recordings, so all scenes with no or altered music are omitted.
IMPORTANT: The featured sample notations are not necessarily identical (in key, form or time signature) to the relevant music in the tracks. They exist to give a visual cue for the themes, not to be taken literally for every iteration of the theme.
Quotes mostly taken from The Annotated Score and The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films by Doug Adams
A big thank you to A Magpie’s Nest, and the mysterious transcriber M.W., without either these videos might never have been made.
I am not affiliated with Middle-earth Enterprises, the Tolkien Estate, New Line Cinema, Warner Brothers, WingNut Films, Doug Adams or Howard Shore.

I only ever saw the un-extended version and my god the choir when galadriel raises her hand in final goodbye is just so beautiful, I wish it was there

ADDENDUM The sample notation for the Lothlórien theme is wrong, it's supposed to play over an open F chord, not G. 2:44 It's probably not "Yéni" that's being sung here, at least it does not sound like it to me or Magpie, who I got most of these lyrics from. 10:04-10:30 These lyrics are also in Quenya. 10:28 It's probably "Hildin(yar)". Though the number of syllables match the notes of the trumpet, the choir does not necessarily sing the same thing, and the last syllable does sound more like "din" than "yar". Thanks for watching!

My uneducated interpretation of the Ring Theme playing at the Argonath: The statues represent Gondor at it's height with the kings of old, Elendil and Isildur, guarding the former borders. It's the ring that lead to the line of kings failing and Gondor's lands and people diminishing. It's a mournful reminder of the weakness of even the strongest men.
