Adult modelers easily panic when it comes to small figures. At least that's how I feel. Super explained - this borders on psychological care. Thank you from Germany!

1/35 isn't small by any definition. Even 28mm is large scale, small would be something like 1/72 and down.

Speaking as a non-hobbyist, I'm amazed by all the skill, talent and labor it takes to do these figures at this level. Those hands and eyes would be great assets in surgery.

Thank you for this video. I was having a lot of trouble painting my figures since I joined the hobby in June. This helped immensely. I touched up one and was so happy with the results I kept redoing more and more. My figures no longer look like weird 2 inch mannequins.

I actually just got this kit! Outstanding work! Also, just a tip in reference to your diy painting base for your troops. I use tall bottle caps from like kombucha bottles and stuff and I used to super glue them to it, but a guy from my club suggested heavy duty double sided tape. You know, the type of stuff you could see Billy Mays picking up and engine block with? It’s pretty cheap at your local menards or home depot or whatever and can be cut to size. With super glue, I found if you bump the figure, it breaks free and now you are trying to re-glue a wet paint covered Wehrmacht soldier to a cap (or wood screw) and butchering all your work. The double sided tape has a little more play in it. And when you are done, he doesn’t look like he is wearing snow shoes! A win win in my book lol!

Great video. Another choice for the basic flesh tone which I like and you may like to try, is Vallejo Panzer Aces 341 Flesh Base - it gives a warmer, more tanned effect which is perhaps appropriate for troops, and avoids the slightly yellow jaundiced look! :-) You can lighten it up with other flesh colours of course.

Nice painting I don't normally use Tamiya figures I find there under scale than all other 1.35 figures so hard to mix n match them! Dragon's 1.35 3rd Gen are amazing figures but ICM have just rocked the boat with there new figures there just absolutely unbelievable for plastic! They look high detail aplone resin when painted up the German ww1 set is my favorite can't wait for more from ICM if we ever hear from them again! Could be a while being based in Ukraine!

Clear and nice. A couple of tips: I am no fan of the fleshtones, like at all - they are all too yellow for my taste, so instead I recommend Old Rose or Salmon Rose (Vallejo) as the base coat, using light flesh as highlight and any blasted brownish red for shade. This method of painting eyes come from Francois Verlinden, and is a pretty common way of painting eyes - and I approve of using light flesh for the white of the eyes, since the fleshtone is actually reflected in the eyes (most notable with people with dark skin - get yourself a good image and you'll see their whites have a clear brownish tint to them). However, the irises need to be larger, with only hint of whites visible - alternatively, paint a very thin dark line under the upper eyelid to mark the eyes. Oh, and at this scale, brown, preferably burnt umber, is used to paint the irises since the actual color can't be seen anyway. The only thing I actually question is painting the gasmask canister in aluminium - all metal equipment used was painted with that green, and that included the canister. The paint did wear off, but that is actually very well simulated with a drybrush. A couple of other hints: the binolulars should have straps as well as the gasmask canister where the lid opens. A good way to add something extra is to paint all the black leather, especially the Y-straps and boots with a semi-gloss coat when all is done to simulate at least leftover polish, but also leather's natural surface. All that aside, great painting tutorial, and I'll be sure to pick up the set myself.

Hi brilliant video, I would like to know please do you paint under a magnifying glass ? I just bought some plastic 1:32 figures they are not multi pose just solid. I read somewhere they are difficult to paint ! they must have a lot of factory resin on them and need a couple of coats of primer.They are from a good brand & I know what they are not just toy soliders from out of the pound shop.

Nice build. First time I've seen a thin slice of tape for the rifle/machine pistol sling. Is it sticky enough, or do you add a drop of CA glue for extra hold at the attach points? I'm thinking that this also might be useful for the strap between the gas mask canister and the molded strap on the figure torso.

I'm a new subscriber and just found this video. Very interesting and very informative! I only have a few 1/35 or 1/32 figures as I concentrated on 1/72 and 1/76 for wargaming. Any suggestions for a much smaller scale?
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews 2 года назад
Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed! For figures at that very small scale, I would say that washes are going to be your best friend. You can't see very many small details at that level, so blocking in the main colors with paint & then using a wash to help create artificial shadows on the sculpt should help give you a great result! Happy painting 👍

Vallejo Beige Brown or Tan Earth both work well for stocks! 👍

hello friend I have a question, do you use the paints directly from the pot? And what size brush do you use?
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews 2 года назад
Hey there! I generally drop a bit of my paints on a wet palette & work from there (it helps keep a bit of moisture on the paint without diluting it too much)... I'm constantly experimenting with how much water to incorporate to my mix. As for the brushes, I have a video about "Best Gear for Beginners" where I talk about my brush set quite a bit if you'd like to check it out! There's a link for them there as well 👍

I would reccomend sticking with a Tamiya kit - their StuG III & StuG IV are great simple kits that'll give you a nice result. The Tamiya Panzer IIIs are also a good choice! If you have a little more experience under your belt, the Tamiya Panther D is a fun challenge! Happy building 👍

This video did an awesome job at helping me improve my figure painting, the only question I have is what ratio do you use for thinning your paints and which matte varnish do you use? I've had really terrible results with the Vallejo matt varnish, it never turns out matte, it takes on more of a satin finish for me.
@SpruesNBrews
@SpruesNBrews Год назад
Hey there - glad to hear it! Thank you so much. I don't have a specific ratio that I use - instead I kind of mix with water on a wet palette as I go. I would recommend checking out one of my more-recent videos on figure painting (where I paint up a Luftwaffe pilot figure) where I go into detail about the process. For a varnish, I usually go for a combo of Vallejo matte & AMMO Lucky matte (starting with a coat of the Vallejo & finishing with a coat of the AMMO). I agree that the Vallejo product dries a bit satin, but I do like it's protective properties. A light AMMO coat at the end (which I find peels for me sometimes on it's own) works really well as a pair. Cheers & happy painting 👍

@@SpruesNBrews Thanks for the tips! I'll have to invest a wet palette, and I'll look into other matte varnishes.

These figures are made of plastic, so Tamiya Extra Thin Cement works very well. If you're painting up a resin figure, however, I would recommend some super glue 👍

I don't recall exactly, but I think it was Vallejo Tan Earth - I try to mix it up with rifle stocks to create some variation between figures, but any light tans generally work well for me!
