Great video, I use this hex tools and bits everyday. But even here there are some proprietary formats and different standards. Festool make some different adapters for their tools, the japanese domestic models are not compatible with other brands. But after everybody use this things.

Love the 1/4" standard! I noticed the stuff you showed here were all "metal on metal" standards like driver bits, square adapters, extensions, etc. There's a whole bunch of other stuff in 1/4" hex too, wire brushes, buffers, wire nut twisters, wire strippers, plug cutters, hole saws, threaded insert drivers, wing nut drivers,....

My favorite locking holder is by dewalt. The collar is on the bottom and small, so the top is the standard slim size for fitting into tighter areas

Sometimes you can find that holder with a box of insert bits on sale for the same price as the holder by itself, so then it's a win-win

A note on the locking extensions. The Bosch and Diablo iterations don’t hold up for impacting . I’ve gone through 2-3 of each brand The Milwaukee locking extension is really the only one that will hold up to heavy impacting abuse.

I love this platform so damn much. I’m an electrician and my most used tool is my m12 fuel impact. I also use the Klein impact 11-1 screwdriver, and keep a magnetic bit holder on one side. I love that I have a screwdriver that I can put a tap bit, socket adapter, or conduit reamer bit on. Once in awhile I’ll even put a 1/8” impact drill bit if I need to poke at something. I’d like to order a big beefy 4-6” slotted bit to use as a pry bar/ beater. Some of my favorite funky bits are in insulated driver by apex, the Milwaukee conduit reamer (bc it has a long bit holder to get inside boxes), and an 8” Philips bit. I also put all sorts of stuff in my icon meme tool. I had to tap a 10-32 hole for a ground screw with it the other day

Here's a couple bits you all might be interested in: 1000V hex bit or square drive isolator called "crescent eshok-guard" torque limiter bit holder. they sell different ones with preset torques "bernstein 4-985-RPM" hex deburrer bit called "gedore e-8730"

My favorite is the 711L Hex bit and 1/4" socket 2 in 1. I even press fit one into an old Craftsman screwdriver handle to make a spinner handle. I have the Wiha 1/4" hex to 4mm adapter as well with another 711L 2-in-1 in my tiny EDC kit. Great collection you have fine Sir!

You mention magnetic and locking bit holders, but there are also detent ball bit holders. I have a couple made by Teng Tools which hold the bit very firmly. I've found that Wera make the strongest small magnetic bit holders.

One of my go-to hex drivers lately has been a modded Kobalt double drive handle - the one with the differential collar in the front that you can grab and gear drive drive on both the clockwise and counterclockwise twist. It's not objectively "great" or super heavy duty but it points to something really compelling.... a tool that is almost as fast as a "4v" electric drive but allows both speed and fine manual control and *doesn't need batteries*. The handle also stores 12 standard bits and a 3.5" extension so it's a good self-contained tool. The bit holder it comes with is a junk magnetic one so I disassembled it and installed a cheap de-walt collared holder. Unfortunately a required mod I think which is too bad.

I would really like to see a small roundup of hex shank drill bits. I use electric screwdrivers all the time and I find that having a set of small hex-shank bits around is really nice when working on plastics, chipboard, and other softer materials because I can do basically everything with the screwdriver. So far my favorite set I've used is from Milwaukee, but if there are other good options out there I'm interested in hearing about them!

I’ve had the best luck with Bosch impact (black) drill bits. Still haven’t broke one in about 2 years. They stay sharp and are one piece machined HSS.

I also have full Milwaukee sets and they are not nearly as durable. Broke a few and don’t quite hold the edge like Bosch IMHO. 2¢

The wiha quarter inch to microbit adaptor is unironically one of the best adaptors in my use case.... as I foundout Godhand (sub of Tsunoda) also makes microbit sized drills.... which also means they also have a microbit driver

I bought that 1/4 driver that the collar slips down to reveal the 1/4 square made by 711L and the idea is great but the bits are just held in by a ball retention on the side so it doesn’t hold the bits very securely. They come out, especially Phillips. The 1/4 drive part underneath should be magnetic.

Hi Doc, I love your videos. Keep up the great work. I have a couple of question, if you don't mind. I have some bit drivers that have either lost their magnet or never had one. Could I just drop a 1/4" round maget into the hex and if so is one side of the magnet stronger than the other? Thanks in advance. Ralph
@lastbesttool
@lastbesttool 4 месяца назад
Hello Ralph, You would need to glue in the magnet or it would likely come out stuck to a quality bit. Neodymium magnets, which you would want to use, are brittle so you cannot press-fit a magnet. And something that size should have symmetrical field lines so it won't matter which way it's inserted. As far as north or south pole out, I don't know if there is a standard, nor why there would be. I've often wondered about adding more magnets to a deeper driver for added strength. seems like it would work. Thanks for watching!

If u want a design that supersedes every proprietary design whether it's C6 E6 or Japanese extended anvil. Well u need the Wiha 76000, it's a bit driver handle that holds all 3 but types and does so better than ANYthing else on the market, next to zero play. After experiencing this awesomeness where a long day 4" or 6" hex bit is being held as firm as a dedicated screwdriver 😮 it's hard to like anything else. U realise that sloppy wobbly bits don't have to be like this, they can be locked in & retained by bb's with basically no play, a bit like when U put a long but in a drill chuck. Hazet makes a similar cheaper design that's close but not quite as good. The Hazet 810bh or the smaller 810bhk (810mm but holder kompact). But I really like Docs hex bit pin vise...I got to get one of those. 😊

@Hirudin 5 дней назад
I'd like to know too. Well, I guess what I'd really like to know is: where can I get one? The bit says "KTI" on it (which Google seems to suggest is "K Tools International") and the numbers "44304" are also written on it. There's something after "44304" as well, possibly a "B". I've Googled "KTI 44304B" (and a few derivations of that) but nothing useful came up.

What an interesting socket in the green magnetic tray, a half inch drive 35mm deep metric socket. I wonder whether that marries up with a standard size or whether 35mm is actually used, never encountered a 35mm bolt, seen plenty of 32 33, 36 38 & 41, but yet have I needed a 35 🤔
@lastbesttool
@lastbesttool 4 месяца назад
OEM Toyota Tacoma axel nuts are often 35mm but folks often use a 1-3/8" . There is some bad info floating around online that the Taco nuts are 36mm, but using a 36 might also work since an extra mm at that size is not enough to cause a slip, just a minimum fit.
