used to buy revell and monogram in the 70s. Cast in either brown, blue, gray, green. Had working landing gear, canopies, bay doors. Now they are all cast in gray.
Very nice! Your videos have inspired me to get back into the hobby. I have a box of old Monogram kits I've dug out of the basement. I'm going to start one. Thanks for bringing me back to the hobby.
See now this is just the best comment. I'm really glad iv inspired you and so glad your building again. I feel like a lot of things could happen to discourage people from building. And I just try to build the way I want to build. I hope you do the same. Model on my freind. Build something you love for your collection!
This kit brings back memories. I built one back in the late 80s that I got through a kids' mail order model club. Never knew who produced the kits as they came bagged, and the instructions didn't have the manufacturer name on it. You did a great job with an old kit. I always thought that the way the wings fit in was a pain but that everything fit together well. Back in the late 80s, Fine Scale Modeler magazine had an article on a guy who built a ship's catapult from scratch to display his on. It had plans, measurements, and parts needed. After watching this, I may have to find this kit, dig out my copy of that magazine, and build it.
I also remember building one from a model club (I think it was called AMC). So that's got me wondering. Is there a modern day model club that sends you a model once a month?
In lieu of silly putty, try artist's clay from your local craft store (Michael's, etc..). That's what I use and it works fine, plus it's cheap relative to how much you get in a package. I've got a couple of these Kingfisher kits in my stash. The last and only other time I built one was in my late teens, so 1990-91' ? It was the "High-tech" version, which included a small fret of photoetch. I'm not sure when photoetch parts for model kits first became available, but it was the first time I'd ever seen "photoetch". Nice work on your Kingfisher kit, looks good!
Yeah I built the Monogram version years ago. I belonged to a model club and won some awards for my models but alas arthritis and my failing eyesight no longer allows me to build with any details but enjoy watching others.
Awesome kit! Glad to see Revell/Monogram is resurrecting a lot of the old kits I built when I was just a colt! Thx for showing the Navy some love- between this and the TBF Avenger, it's hard to find classic WW2 Navy warbirds!! Keep up the outstanding work!!
nicely done ... this is one of Monograms better kits from the 70s ... i did mine in pre-war neutrality patrol colors with Aeromaster decals (Naval Air Station Cape May) ... yours looks great as well ... thanks for resurrecting these old classics.
This is a good kit… I have the original issue, BLUE BORDER BOX… And the PRO-MODELER ISSUE, with the PHOTO ETCH parts.. They do make a 3D printed catapult for this kit, that really makes this kit POP… I’ll keep watching CHRIS 🇺🇸
I remember subscribing to your channel back a couple years ago. Big fan of this kit and remember your other Kingfisher build too, but what knocks me out, your incredible ex plo tion of growth veiwer wise. Good on you, very well deserved. You've come a long way. Proud to know 'ya. Keep 'em coming ese. Be well.
I just want to say thanks for subbing. I really appreciate you and this whole model community. This just totally gives me so much MOJO and why I build these kits. So thank you wor watching and I hope that you have something great on the bench. Just a sneak peak. But I have a PBY 1/48 scale on my bench right now and I'm super excited to share it with you ! Model on!
Hello everyone. Kingfisher? In french it will say " le roi pêchant" ou " le roi qui pêche". It's strange for a name of a airplane ✈️ isn't? Haha 🤣. But thank you for sharing
Iv heard lol I don't think ill build any of the dragon models, unless I get tricked into it by buying something that bought their molding or something.. hahah.
