I did a clutch for my father in law once. Flywheel was glazed, so I was going to scuff it up w/80 grit sandpaper. "What the hell ya doing?" The next week he was trying to drive it up ramps, but the clutch was smoking. Your video brought back memories...
I’m sure you told the owner, but not doing that flywheel is all kinds of stupid. That and not doing the rear main. Then again he’s installing a puck clutch on a fwd 1.8t which I assume he is not taking to the track. That puck clutch is going to suck during daily driving.
The car was so shotty that I gave him a even better deal than what I said at first, yes definitely advised the dual mass will be bad, and should be replaced. I’ve never seen a 1.8t rear main leak yet, always a good idea to do it though, you can notice it’s a puck style clutch if you pay close attention buts it’s still a pretty weak pressure plate so it’s very easy to drive. Was probably a really cheap Chinese clutch. I don’t know what’s in my dually Ford for a clutch but I’m assuming stock and that one is a lot more difficult to drive than when I had fancy expensive puck style race clutches in my 240sx and 300zx drift cars before I had all that stuff I remember people saying that they are more trouble to drive, I don’t think so. I would have just put a normal style clutch in this car, I doubt it’s ever going to make any power or get a turbo upgrade.
Hi there! Good video, just had a question: Did you drop the manual trans on this B5.5 without removing the subframe? Or does the subframe need to be unbolted somewhat?
