This is so awesome! Always thought this would be a great swap! Been following you guys for a while now! Making my dreams come true! Keep up the good work!
I planning out a repower for my 03 Land Rover, I think for weight and size I'm going with a Dmax 6.6 diesel, I want to do the Cummins on it BUT it's a bit longer and nearly 400 more lbs.
Hello Will, and thank you very much. I have one video that I will see if I can upload today. It’s the 80 series land cruiser that we put the ALH motor into. After that video was shot we got sidetracked with other things. Then the pandemic hit which has unfortunately kind of devastated our business. Our laser cutter went out of business overnight and we lost all of our CAD files. Hopefully when things open up properly we can get back to work properly.
Can't wait to head out to Ontario from alberta one day with my 99 4runner limited 4wd that is running on only 5 cylinders. Would love to let these guys drop a ALH in there, from what I gather I just might have to change from a auto to a manual transmission? I'm not against that, all we really had a back in england was manual vehicles anyway for the most part. Keep up the good work!
Do you know the mighty inline 6diesel 1hd-ft from toyota?! Or the 4.5l v8 twin turbo diesel?! Those are the best and most used engines in the land cruisers particularly the older 1hd
Its been 2 years, would love to see a followup on this conversion. was it a success or a fail? this is the first one i've heard about. usually people say these motors are too underpowered to move around a 4800 lb 80 series but i'de like to seem them proven wrong.
I hope you get this question… I really like what you are doing .. I have an 1989 isuzu trooper and wanted to do the 1.9 swap . My trooper has an automatic trans a340 and I wanted to keep it an automatic… do you make an adapter for the a340? ( came in allot of Toyota’s) seems like the 1.9has a similar rpm range as the 4 cylinder I have now. Thank you for the help Coalvatis
Unfortunately if was a 1 of a kind conversion for us. We decided the conversion would be too complex for us to design a kit. I may still have 1 of the prototype adapters on the shelf though. I can be reached at (519) 938-9844. If you leave a message I will call you back as I’m away from the shop quite often nowadays.
Any updates? I just got a 1992 Land Cruiser and the 4.0 inline six gets 12mpg and only puts about 150hp/220tq and I know those VW TDI can put up to 180hp and 300+tq. I’m really contemplating a TDI swap.
Im curious if you all would be will to help with some advice? I have a 1990 daihatsu rocky. I'm have turned wrenches but am a long way from being a mechanic. I wasn't too swap a TDI into it so I get good fuel economy and more power than the 1.6l in it. Do you have suggestions? I would like to keep the transmission that's in it, but don't know if there's a conversion kit that will work with such an obscure vehicle (at least in the US).
I have a 1982 Toyota Pickup 4x4. Just curious how much you'd charge to swap a ALH into it? If you'd prefer to discuss it more personally I can email you!
This is Gabriel from Houston Texas nice videos I wonder if I can use my 98 TDI stick shift transmission and put it into a 05 Jetta TDI automatic please help
Hello Gabriel I know that the manual transmission will bolt up to the engine, but I’m not sure about the mounts or what it will take to install the shifter linkage. There will also be wiring and ECU programming that will be required. We’re not really a VW shop. We just stumbled into doing VW to Toyota truck conversions a few years ago and ran with that line of business.
@@toyworksautocrafters3072 I still have the old car I have the whole car the 98 TDI so it might make it easier thank you very much for your time preciate it
Hello Angara We never know what we will be asked to do a conversion on next. A 100 series is not out of the question, but I do think it still a ways off in the future. One of the problems we still need to solve with a lot of the Toyota 4WD's is the computerized automatic transmissions. When we swap in the VW engines keeping the original Toyota automatic transmissions shifting properly is a challenge. Thank you greatly for your questions S.C.Lawrence M.P.G. Conversions 519-938-9844
200 hp out of a 1.9 diesel, how? I have had a number of 1.9 diesel's, have been a Volkswagen diesel van since my first 1.5 litre rabbit with a four speed tranny, a real dog but economical, my current 2015 has a 2 litre and is the most powerful VW I have ever had but I doubt if its anywhere near 200 hp, even with those doubts I have a rust free 90 Toyota 4x4 with a 22R running gear and would love a 1.9 diesel in it, I presume you go with these to get away from the computer gear that is necessary with the 97 and up VW's
Hello Vim Nowadays it is pretty easy to take almost any of the Volkswagen turbodiesels and push them to 200 hp or more. For the early ones, the AAZ (all mechanical no electronics) models, you would need to go to a compound turbo set up so that you keep the low RPM power, but be able to achieve 22 lbs of boost pressure. Combine this with a rebuilt modified injection pump from Performance Diesel Injection in Markham Ontario, and an appropriate intercooler, and your into the 200 hp range. With the AAZ and AHU models, when going past 18lbs boost it is recommended to the rod and crank bolts with stronger studs, and replace the head bolts with studs aswell. With the TDi models, AHU, ALH, BEW, it's as simple as a turbo upgrade, reprogramming the ECU (Malone Tuning), different injectors, a wider range MAP sensor and better intercooler. The 2.0 litre TDi's can be done with just a reprogram. We haven't used the 2.0 diesels yet due to (depending on version) reliability, cost and difficulty with the late model's electronics, but we're sure that eventually we will venture along this route. We are indeed using the electronically controlled 1.9 VW TDi's currently (AHU, ALH). As these are the best power to fuel economy performers. Thank you for your interest S.C.Lawrence M.P.G.
