Thanks Dr. Brewer. I would never tell anyone what to do, but, for me, KETO (eliminating sugar & starchy carbs,) reasonable Intermittent Fasting (only eating between 10 AM and 6 PM) worked WONDERS. I also made sure to stay hydrated. This got my body fat/body weight back to my high school level, normalized my vital signs & lab scores, improved my mood & mental clarity, and more. Personally, I combined it with exercise (resistance training) but I think you'd get most of the benefits of KETO & IF even without exercise. These days, I also walk 40 minutes a day, and have found that has LOTS of benefits too. I will add an Apple Cider Vinegar dressing to my salad as well.

@@PrevMedHealth You know, Dr. Brewer, it's very disheartening to me that so many supposedly trusted institutions, including the pharmaceutical companies, the government, the food processing industry, and most of the medical community, act like they don't know what's causing our current, horrible epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. I can't say for certain that these awful maladies are caused by consuming too much sugar & refined carbs, but it sure seems that way, given the success & quality-of-life improvements I (and thousands of others) have experienced with Keto & IF. Over time, eating too much sugar & starchy carbs leads to serious blood sugar/insulin problems with devastating implications. In addition to the metabolic problems they cause, sugar & starchy carbs are addictive, resulting in cravings that make it nearly impossible not to overeat. This become clear to you as soon as you get free of the addiction. The problem is exacerbated by the sedentary lifestyle led by most Americans, and also alcohol consumption. *And yet, I've NEVER had a doctor even suggest that I **_try_** a KETO diet & IF, and the gov't food pyramid STILL place great emphasis on eating cereals, bread, potatoes, pasta and rice.* ?!? It seems to me that, at the very least, large-scale KETO/IF trials should be underway. It shakes my faith in the idea that any of those entities I mentioned has our best interests at heart. The misery and needless early death resulting from this cluster of metabolic disorders is so staggering in scale that it's too terrible to contemplate. I sure it dwarfs the deaths from crime and auto accidents combined. So, you'd think it would be the number one health priority in the Nation.

Thanks for the idea of including Apple Cider Vinegar in salad dressing. I exercise first thing in the morning (that's the best time to get rid of fat). I drink water 1/2 hour before a meal, so the stomach will have acid, (not water) to digest my meal. I have one egg, beaten with a little milk, on a slice of Sourdough bread cooked in Olive oil. (Looks like French toast), and an avocado for breakfast. I eat yogurt and nuts and a salad or vegetables for second meal. Wait two hours to drink lots of water. That's it! I don't feel hungry between meals - Yeah!

BEST SALAD DRESSING EVER. Try smashing a clove of garlic then skewer it with a fork . Whisk it in some extra virgin olive oil for about 30 seconds then add apple cider vinegar with honey and skewer it again for about 15 seconds. Pour over your salad and add Celtic sea salt and pepper to taste . ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Question does the apple cider vinegar with the honey in it have a negative effect if I’m pre diabetic?

I did a CTA on your advice. My doc didn't think I needed a cardiologist, and she didn't really think I needed a CTA (2 zero calcium score) but I still had s/w hi LDL and family history (although they were smokers). They schedule it for 2 hrs, I was in and out in about an. hour and the procedure took maybe 10-15 min, plus you get another calcium score with it. My medicare covered the cost fully. I found a genetic anomaly of one vessel, (was told it's not a problem) and my zero plaque at age 66 gave me piece of mind. Highly recommend. Yes, Apple Cider Vinegar with Olive Oil is the only salad dressing I use. One question, what is the difference between Apple Cider Vinegar and other vinegars? My understanding is that it is slightly weaker (less acetic acid) than white vinegar, so it is better from a taste perspective. . . . Nick from Physionic did a video recently where he discussed endothelial cells. It goes over how when these cells are over saturated with glucose the resulting ROS in mitochondria causes production of inflammation factors such as IL-6, IL-11 to name a couple, that are released into the blood. The cells also send receptors to the cell membranes to interact /catch the immune factors released by the body into the blood resulting from the LI-6 and L-11 signaling. During this process the endothelial cells can change shape becoming less flat, more round resulting in gaps between endothelial cells. This can allow immune factors, lipids and other substances to get behind the endothelial into the intima. This is one of the base mechanisms for the creation of plaque. (my simple understanding) We need to keep the absorption of glucose to a low and as level rate as possible. I think this is where muscle loss comes into play as we age as it results in a reduced ability to quickly absorb larger quantities of glucose.

This idea that elevated insulin limits ones ability to metabolize fats is important, it never crossed my mind that these two things were related until I was on a high fat carnivore diet for 6 weeks, at which point I ran some bloodwork and my cholesterol had gone from 320 to 850, all my inflammation markers were off the chart, and my insulin levels were sky high. Prior to that I had been low carb for several years, so in my case at least, simply being low carb is not enough, I am not able to metabolize fats properly. Turns out I have been pre-diabetic for at least 20 years, who knew? and by the way that episode triggered a stroke so if anyone out there is thinking this isn't dangerous, think again.
@ematise
@ematise 9 дней назад
So what are you planning to do in the future? You said that you've been low carb for many years, but did you go into ketosis? That should have made your insulin sensitivity increase helping with diabetes and inflammation. Also when your metabolic health is very bad, you should also fast every day for at least 18-16 hours. Try to keep it like this until your body heals what it can heal after many years of attacks. Also for switching your body from glucose to ketones you should deplete the glucose stored in your body by fasting at least 24-48 hours. Only from this moment your body will start decreasing your insulin, using the fat storage and ketones for energy, and start healing. Just my thoughts about this. If you don't like unsolicited advice, just ignore it, I just tried to help. Good luck!

@@ematisemy two cents is; u saved me typing it. Gotta get yor metabolic flex on and fasting is the house cleaning of the inner home. The fly in the ointment however is seed oils and trans-fats that get in the fat cells, don't want to come out and damage your mitochondria when they are burnt, so take it easy with the exercise or your body might start breaking down amino acids to cope - not good! Modern life ay? Always something they have to catch you with. X
@ematise
@ematise 8 дней назад
@@clivewells1736 Yes, right I forgot to mention seed oils and trans fats. They are oxidizing to LDL. That's why sugar, carbs, diabetes, obesity, clots, brain strokes, metabolic syndrome, heart disease and many others are so strongly connected. 👍 Diabetes is a very insidious disease especially because measuring insulin resistance and inflammation markers are not used as a first tool for detecting early metabolic problems. Instead they use glucose levels and total cholesterol for routine investigations. As the OP said, he was prediabetic for 20 years before they got to detect the problem.

my own theory re ACV is that it's beneficial for the gut microbiome. People get benefits from taking such small amounts, like a tablespoon a day. The nutrients in a tablespoon of ACV are such small amounts that it's difficult to see how they would have an impact. But if they alter an unhealthy microbiome into one that's more healthy, more beneficial bacteria, less pathogenic bacteria, the impact from that would be much greater than the impact from just the nutrients in that tablespoon of ACV. It's also something I've noticed personally when I take it: I notice a change in my digestion and elimination.

I'd take two tablespoons of ACV in water every morning on an empty stomach since I didn't eat until lunch, fasting for 16 - 18 hours during the week. My A1C crept up to 6. My brother began drinking a concoction of fresh ginger, red pepper powder, cinnamon, and ACV. His AC1 dropped from 6 to 5.4. Now, I'm drinking it but I add in protein powder, creatine, and cardamon. A few months ago, my A1C measured 5.8. Time will tell. I tend to drink this after I eat. It's likely all the ingredients help, but maybe the cinnamon helps most.

Thanks for another great and informative video. So i am wondering if I should get a CT Angiogram ? I am 74 and had a Calcium score 96 and heart age of 55-59. I tried Apple Cider vinegar and only couple of tablespoons a day with water. But I would get what felt like little crystals underneath my knee caps. So i would stop talking the ACV FOR A WEEK and the crystals would go away. I would wait an about a month and try that ACV again and the crystals would come back and then disappear after stopping the ACV. Any idea what is going on. Thanks Leon

I don't see the mechanism on alpha amylase. But let's say an acidic environment does the trick. Then why not stomach acid is sufficient for this? Also: what's the secret ingredient in apple vinegar that any other vinegar doesn't have? The question is rhetorical. There's nothing in apple cider vinegar that does anything different from any other vinegar. Ergo, any vinegar will do the trick (but this trick is minuscule) and it's unnecessary to pay high dollars based on cider hype.

It helps mine. Often your problem is not enough stomach acid. Antacids make this problem much worse. ACV raise acid and triggers the upper stomach sphincter to close preventing reflux. Also helps digest food better and reduce sugar spikes. I take right after my dinner meal (want it to work before I lay down). Don’t take antacids - they’re terrible for your gut and digestion (vitamin deficiencies too).
