I live in Michigan, been to Mackinaw Island many times. I always try to find a day in the middle of the week during September when it's not crowded. It's an amazing place. Awesome ferry ride, and Starline has a ferry ride that goes directly under the bridge during certain times. Plus Its $10 per person I think to take a tour of the Grand hotel.
Happy birthday Liz! I'm really enjoying your travel vlogs thru my state. We are from the Great Lakes Bay region and spend almost every weekend from April thru mid-October in the Traverse City area. So many festivals, art and antique fairs, wineries, breweries and distilleries in a one hour radius keeps us entertained all season long. We make it to Mackinaw Island every couple of years. Looking forward to your trek across the UP. Hopefully it includes Tahquamenon Falls, Whitefish Point and Copper Harbor. Goofy note: Mackinaw Island locals call the tourists "fudgies" and UPers call folks from the lower peninsula "trolls" because we live below the bridge!! Enjoy!
My ancestors on my dad's side used to own this Island! Mackinac Island fudge is some of the best around!😊 You guys make awesome videos and happy to see you are having so much fun!
Thank you for this reminder of how awesome Mackinac is. You’ve shared things I didn’t see on my adventure. You two do remarkable work. Was nice meeting Dennis at Julian Price a few days ago. Hope you enjoyed our special North Carolina beauty, too! Keep “seeing”!!!
You should meet the UPS driver on the island. She is so cool. She has lived on the island forever. I look fo her ever time I visit. A little person with a lot of memories.
please let older adults know they can take their mobility scooters on the ferry and on the island.... we do that. Most mobility scooters with a full charge can easily go around the island. Also if you stay in St.Ignace it will likely be cheaper and the ride to Mackinaw shorter... and there is a state park there. And, lately the Mackinaw Bridge Authority has been selling former parts of the bridge for $20 at their office adjacent to the toll booths on the St.Ignace side. I will be donating some of the 15 pieces I bought to be raffled off by charitable groups.
I just spent all last week on the island peddling everywhere. I would recommend spending 10 bucks and go through the grand hotel, it is awesome. Enjoyed walking past the big mansions on the hill, other side of the grand hotel. Stayed at Bicycle street inn, the Jamaican restaurant was right behind us. Those Jamaican people seem very nice. The bike trail was open at night and on the weekends around the perimeter of the island, it was closed to make repairs from the high water erosion from 2020. Also the sailboats gathering for the races was a nice touch, the sunsets with all those sailboats on the horizon looked pretty neat. I was watching your video hoping to see me and my bright orange Super 32 bike( didn’t see it ).
If you can afford it, staying overnight on Mackinac Island is the way to go. The place is overrun with people between late morning and late afternoon. So, an overnight stay means evenings and mornings are peaceful and relaxed.
Thank you for speaking about and highlighting the native American history and population. Happy belated birthday. Great video quality and great content. Thanks for sharing.
I have been there. I am 55 yrs old now but I was 11 when my parents took me and my sister. I still remember it well. Super thanks for taking me along with you.
Happy belated BD! Thanks for sharing this....we're headed thru the UP and into the mitten in the next couple of weeks and really appreciate all the great 411! Dave and Lorrie
Everyone should visit Mackinac Island at least once. I had the privilege to work there one summer! Kingston Kitchen was one of my favorite spots to eat. Looks like you were camping at the Straits State Park in St. Ignace….the view of the Mackinac Bridge is amazing from there. Love that campground.
Happy Birthday Liz! Looks like a fun time. Love that 1wheel. I actually spent two weeks at a resort in Cadillac Michigan when I was in college, playing with my club band. I remember the movie Grease had just come out, and We had learned virtually all the songs from that soundtrack.
Just wanted to say we are heading to St Louis, Chicago, Wisconsin and Michigan this summer and so many of your videos are in places we are visiting! your videos have been a fantastic way to know where we should go and where we should eat and what we should see. So thank you, and I’m subbed now!
As a Michigan Native, I find it funny that Canadians summer here. A statement on how frigid their country is, ten months a year. Michigan? Only eight months a year.
Hi Liz and Dennis! We visited Michigan a few years ago when we attended a family reunion. Mackinac Island was one of our destinations. We also drove through the UP and came down through Wisconsin. Michigan is a beautiful state.
We enjoy learning about it and feels it's important to share it's history which is often overshadowed by history after colonization. Thanks for watch and glad you enjoyed it!
@@EatSeeRV I’m a Michigander and have yet to visit Mackinac Island. My husband and I are now planning a 3 year slow travel adventure through out Mexico in fall of 2022 (home base in Queretaro). I wanted you both to know that seeing Mexico through your eyes and experiences has helped in our decision making. Thank you for that. I loved, loved watching your Mexican adventures. I wish you both the very best in what lies ahead!
To me, the better Michigan island vacation is Beaver Island. Much more to do, and a history like no other place in the U.S. Oh, and most importantly.......no fudge.
Happy belated birthday! Looks like you are at Straits State Park in St. Ignace. Very clean campground. Did the Mackinac trip this past June. Hope you may have gone to Kitch-Iti-Kipi (The Big Spring) in Manistique on your way from The UP to Wisconsin.
What campground did you stay at close to Mackinac Island? Also my husband has a one wheel. I have yet to try it. You are much braver than I am! But he loves it. He bought me a ninebot scooter.
My wife and I are taking our travel trailer and heading up to Mackinac island in the middle of September. We are looking forward to it. Thank you for the brief tour.
Actually the road around Macinac Island is a state road. It was closed after being washed out by high lake levels & storms. Mackinac Island was designated America's 2nd National Park after Yellowstone. It was handed back to the State a few years later. America's " western" fur trade started here by the Astor family. They later established Astoria,Oregon.
you do not need to only do bikes or carriage. we walked to the arch. we toured many buildings and relaxed in green areas. We also played horseshoes at the Grand Hotel. The island is an expensive tourist area, but you can do it frugally also. Just plan ahead. Decide where you want to spend your time and money. It us a must visit at least one time in your life.
We enjoyed our time there too but we stayed in Mackinaw City and checked out the fort and light house there too. Too bad you missed going to Mackinac Island Wine shop to check out the hundreds of craft beer they had for sale. The blueberry beer was really good.
you need to stay on the island after the last ferry goes out, it's a beautiful and peaceful place as the day crowd moves out. one of my favorite places.
Awesome I’m glad you are back in the US thanks for the great videos my wife and 2sons have gone to a lot of the places you go to that you show us thanks
Happy birthday, new subscriber here. We're thinking about going to Mackinac Island with the RV for a day. We don't know anyone like you met a friend there. Where did you park your RV? Can we just park our RV at the parking lot when we go to the island? Thank you.
Thanks for the birthday wishes and sub! We camped in St. Ignace at Straights State Park. We left the RV at the campsite and rode our scooter to the ferry dock. You could park the RV and day trip the island. I think the ferry dock in Mackinaw City has larger RV/trailer parking. The dock parking in St Ignace can accommodate smaller rigs (class c or b). Definitely call ahead and verify before arriving. - Dennis
Great video the island is really a different kind of place, we were there several years ago, the Grand Hotel is amazing inside, hope you were able to take a walk inside. Travel safe.
🥳 🍾 🥂 💃 happy belated birthday Liz. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead. That was a fun video. Loved the balancing act on the one wheel. Hadn't seen one before. Travel safe and see you in the next video. 🇳🇱 🙋♀️ 🇳🇿 💖
OMG OMG OMG THANK YOU FOR BRINGING ME BACK HOME OMG I MISS IT SOOO MUCH 😭 I live in the desert now and it's DEFINITELY A CHANGE THAT IS FOR SURE. Yes you get used the the horse poo smell lol and they have the BEST FUDGE EVER 😍 Is the Pink pony bar and restaurant still there. That jamaican restaurant must be new. We didn't have that back when I was young. Again thank you SOOO MUCH FOR THE LOVELY VIDEO ON MY HOME. Now you MUST do a Cheboygan and Petoskey video but in the summertime lol the winter's are cold and only a couple of thing's are opened.
Great video. Just wondering where in Canada are Greg and Karen from? Looks like you guys are great travelling companions and have a lot of fun together.!! Happy Birthday!!
If you head out of Michigan and head to Duluth, stay at the Lakehead Boat Basin. It is in a marina! The freighters go right by this area under the Lift Bridge to either load the ship or head out to their next destination. It is also a short walking distance to a wonderful area of town, full of breweries, restaurants, shopping, and a great bike path system. The hometown of Bib Dylan!
Michigan has lots to give. I like the weather because it can get warm during the day but will drop at night for sleeping. See ya next week guys. Cheers!!!
Oh man I’ve wanted to try a one wheel it just looks too cool. Great video your editing experience and software really puts your vlog above and beyond. Dan - Oklahoma’s Tumbleweeds
@@EatSeeRV Just remembered you celebrating 30 years in Mexico last year. Christine and I made the comment we are old enough to be your parents last year. Same is true again this year. We weren’t trying to be creepers or anything. 😀
