Hello from CANADA, Poutine is our national meal here in Quebec. It's potatoes with cheese curds and gravy. It can be supplemented with meat as you saw. Those poutine rations are rare so you got lucky!! Glad you enjoyed the candy too ;)
Okay Canadians wondering what you would think of my variation on poutine. French fries (obviously) Jarlsberg (we needed a lactose free cheese) and venison gravy.
@@NightWarp Did Canadians appropriate Nanaimo bars and Saskatoon jelly too? Ooooor are we just enjoying and being proud of a tasty food from a Canadian Region?
As someone who worked closely with military nutritionists, the reason rations in many first world countries have candy or sweets is because sugar is vital for proper functioning of muscle cells and brain cells. When you’re exercising a lot or constantly moving you exhaust those sugars fast. Therefore those sweets are both to add morale and replenish sugar your body needs. That’s why it’s common to find sugary and sweet items in US and Canadian rations. Intentionally, they aren’t to be eaten in one sitting, but snacked on throughout the day.
That’s because all the money that was supposed to go for new boots, decided to use second hand foot fungus invested boots to save money, and send it for their food. Or our one 1970s sub in the Atlantic
A SPORK! spoon+fork. the ultimate eating utensil! Also, those are Tortillas, not Pita bread. Its a Mexican/American/Native American thing used for burritos, tacos, chimichangas etc.
@@neogeo1670 Pita bread and tortillas may be similar due to both being a type of bread, however, they’re not the same and generally are not used interchangeably due to having different recipes and uses.
Hello Slivki!!! The Mushroom is indeed edible and actually very healthy for you!, There are some methods of consumption like - Drying and using for Pierogi, Mushroom soup or even Krokiety (Fried pancake with mushroom filling), You can also boil them to make Mushroom sauce out of them which is very delicious!, Hello From POLAND ❤
I believe he has to remove the green layer as it contains the rippened spores, but then it is indeeed edible. All mushroom with that kind of spongy underside is edible besidde one. It is not deadly but it just taste really bad and the giveaway should be a harsh smell. I haven't encountered one so I am not able to describe it more presicly
He makes everything a sandwich poutine shepherd's pie (or as he said some kind of meat hope it's not cat food) and for breakfast I think they might have mixed up the packages or never got a breakfast one 😂 I'm Canadian don't get me started on the something called a poutine had to stop and catch my breath lol love it
@Larry Nelson wrong as I'm currently serving in canads weirdly enough it's in the boxes of breakfast for some reason I'd consider it lunch but whatever I don't eat the breakfast ones 😂 most times I'm in the feild I eat Mr noodles or some other form of instant food
@@iseytheteethsnake6290 Technically this is more whitewashed american at this point, Not real tortillas, but processed preserved bland military ones are x.x
As a Canadian, I had no idea our military ate so well. Edit: I’m not sure if it’s safe to touch wild mushrooms and then eat food with whatever the mushrooms left on your hands...
It is safe to handle even toxic mushrooms and not washing your hands before eating. No mushroom is that toxic that even a sugar cube of it is too bad. Some does have a really bad taste though that can transfer.
Dang, that looks good. Especially when you are out in the wilderness. Lots of proteins which is to be expected. I'm really happy to see Canadian soldiers treated so well!
The towel was a weird one because you can use it on your cheeks and stuff with common sense or do the weird thing to your private parts you know the one on the front
Those orange, yellow and brown "m&ms" are actually peanut butter candy called Reese's Pieces and they are glorious.. Unless you're allergic to peanut butter. Also try a real poutine, beef gravy, cheese curds, and french fries. One thing I love to do actually is make pierogi poutine. Fry some bacon, take that out of the pan and add pieorgis to the bacon fat, fry them till golden brown. Put them in a baking dish, drizzle what's left of the oil from the pan into the gravy. Add the gravy, the bacon bits, the cheese. Bake it until the top is brown and bubbling. Doesn't take very long if you broil them. Take out, dish it up, add a fat dollop of sour cream and chopped green onion, hot peppers(not the jarred banana ones but ghost/jalapeno/habanero. douse with ghost pepper sauce and enjoy. Sometimes I will add caramelized onions to the gravy. Not your traditional poutine but a game changer to say the least.
wow they really upgraded the IMPs since i was in the canadian army, asides from the poutine, its not a poutine without cheese curds in it.. Also we used to only get one chocolate bar a day, it came in the lunch ration.
Another Canadian former military soldier. I was in the Reserve Forces in the 80's and we called it a Rat Pack (ration Pack) That makes me smile. Nowadays its called MRE
The Sheperd’s pie backstory is very dark First of all its name in french is Pâté Chinois which roughly translate to Chinese dough Its because during the building of the canadian pacifique railroad the worker’s were mainly chinese and they invented the Chinese dough and it was the only thing they could eat Many of them died from explosives because they were the only ones to volunteer for these dangerous task
I still have a case of Canadian MRE's in the basement. Use them occasionally on a day at the firing range for a quick lunch. There's a LOT of stuff in one and they taste pretty good to boot!
Active Canadian Military (Navy) here. Don't cut the top of the beverage bag, it's reusable LOL. There are 2 packs of the sports drink as well as the coffee, so that bag is very useful in the field. Also, the coffee is very good cold
@@texasslingleadsomtingwong8751 yes the creator is based in Ukraine, the video is shot by him but the voice over is done separately for each of his channels
These rations look delicious! Very wise not eating the mushrooms. While these are probably OK, it is a good idea to have a decent field guide book with you when foraging to be sure. Never eat mushrooms you have not 100% identified.
You usually don't find meat in a proper Poutine. It's basically French Fries with Gravy and Cheese Curds. It's not a meal you can usually take with you because the gravy need to be really hot to melt the cheese and you need to eat it before the content turn too soggy.
i like you videos it would be nice to see you cook on alcohol stove . some helpful links where to get the packs would be helpful many thanks and keep up the good work.
The unlettered M&Ms were probably Smarties, M&M are the American copy of the old Roundtree's confection when it was a British company, Smarties are made with Cadbury's chocolate, M&Ms are made with Hershe's chocolate, Cadbury's much better IMHO.
The first mushroom in the video is unknown to me so i cant say anything about their edibility. However the big ones and the ones simlair to them are Boletus mushrooms which are edible and highly sought after for culinairy use.
My B.I.L gave me a ration pack many years ago to try for 1 day's meals, (Australian Army) was quite filling, not not really exciting, I still had a lot left over, could not eat everything. That was back in the 1960's, I hope they have updated the menu ...lol
