I invite you to the first episode of my journey through Lebanon. In today's episode, I will set off from the northern border of Lebanon with Syria and walk the first kilometers. A few hundred meters after starting the walk, a female dog joins me and will accompany me along the route.
Below are some details from the first two days on the trail.
Lebanese Trail day 1
Antget - Quubaiyat
Distance: 25km
Total: 25km
I started today's hike at 7:30 a.m. After a quick breakfast and packing all my things, I headed towards the starting point of the trail, which is located in Andget. Once there, a female dog joined me and decided to accompany me throughout today's hike.
The initial stage of the trail led me through a picturesque valley, at the bottom of which I crossed a wooden bridge to the other side of the river. It was still steeply uphill. Fortunately, later the trail led along a pleasant path without any particularly demanding climbs. It started to blow very strongly in the higher parts, which made the march a bit more difficult.
The dog still stayed close to me, never letting me forget about him. After a few kilometers of hiking and crossing another valley, I reached a hill from where there was a beautiful view of the city of Qoubaiyat, the destination of my today's hike.
After walking a few more kilometers, I finally reached the city where I would spend the night. I did a little shopping there and drank coffee. The dog, of course, got there with me. I stoned him and now we are resting together 😀
Lebanese Trail day 2
Stage: Qoubaiyat - Qamouua
Distance in days: 22km
Total: 47km
I started today's hike after 8 a.m. My canine companion was already waiting for me at the door. We left the city and began the arduous climb up a nearby hill. There were a lot of climbs today - over 1,300 m up. After walking along a charming path, we reached the ruins of the church. From there we continued our hike along a comfortable path that we were constantly gaining altitude. It was warm and sometimes even hot when the sun came out. I wondered if I would have enough water for the two of us. Fortunately, there were a lot of streams along the way, so there was no problem. When we reached the top of the next hill, it was quite cloudy and a little rain fell. The air smelled beautiful.
We mainly wandered along a path that led through pine forests, which, let me tell you, became rarer over time, but beautiful rocks appeared. On the way we met a shepherd with his flock. The dog was so scared of the goats that she walked around the herd on quite dangerous rocks. A little further on, we met a young man collecting firewood. I was invited to his house for an overnight stay and dinner. However, it turned out that he lived quite far away and we would have to go back, i.e. go down to the village, which would mean having to overcome a steep ascent again. Besides, it was only 2 p.m. and we had only covered 10 km. So we said goodbye and headed up the mountain again.
When we reached an altitude of about 1,400 meters above sea level, it started to blow heavily and it got colder. Since I had already covered the planned daily distance, I decided to find a place for a tent and set up camp.
However, I didn't have to do it because at one point I saw a wooden and stone cottage that was begging to stay overnight. The stone part was closed, so I decided to spread the mattress in the wooden part, like a gazebo.
Then it was time for dinner. I made a fire and made some tea. Fortunately, the dog turned out to be a hummus lover, so I could feed him. The dog was very hungry.
We're going to bed in a moment. I mean, the dog has already gone to bed and where will I sleep? I really don't know 😅
