A short video with tips on playing keyboard bass / synth bass Im playing a Roland Gaia keyboard and the drummachine pattern is from a iPhone/iPad app called "Funkbox" From playbassnow.com likecoin.pro/@marlowedk/gxq4/...
The two hand technique is very often missed or glossed over by synth players. This is a great technique for sure. What would be interesting though is to see how you would play straight up funk "slap" bass on the synth. That I think is harder for most compared to the regular synth bass sound. Sure nothing is better than the real bass, but for keyboardists looking to get that slap bass sound on the keys, it would be fun to see your approach as an experienced bass player. Thanks!!
Hi Marlow thank you for the video's you put up it really helps.by any chance can you do a cover of ME TO VOICE MAIL song. it's got killer sythn bass but can't find anyone who does tutorials of that song.
No, but its based on the bank 1 , patch 1 preset bass sound. I just tweaked the envelope a bit on the Tone 1 , added Low Boost in the fx section and turned off Tone 3. As far as i remember :-)
Excellent work, as always!! Are you favoring this Roland over the Moog I saw you playing previously? Certainly the pitch bend is more conducive to this type of playing...
Hey Marlowe I've noticed that you have the Gaia and a Lil Phatty.....this is the same setup another amazing bassist has for synth. I see what you mean about the pitch wheel what's your thoughts about the Novation Bass Station 2 as a cheaper alternative.
Hey Marlowe, wonderful video.I'm a bass player, but I want to play bass synth like you did in the video.Unfortunately,I don't have much money.Do you know any model name that costs little? And can be played like that? Thx.
well. i like the pitch wheel a lot and its easy to program, but it doesnt have many usable sounds out of the box, you need to make them yourself. Another cheap alternative is the Korg R3
I have the Korg Arp odyssey and the bass on it is excellent and you can do a lot with altering the sound with it plus it is analog; the Gaia is not analog though it is a cool synth. Just up to preference! :)
Thats true, Ive been looking at the Korg minilogue alot for my analog sound basis. I never like the idea of being limited to a mono or duo only keyboard, since im very performance based.
But i can see it might be interesting for synth players that doesnt play the bass guitar. But its not really my cup of tea, as im trying to learn the synth bass style of Greg Phillinganes, George Duke, Bernie Worrel, Stevie Wonder etc
Really? I didn't expect that answer at all. There's some really cool stuff on the synth that have that slap feel. Sorry, just didn't expect that but I guess I should expect it coming from a bass player. Oh well, best of luck with your series.
Great videos but your voice is always too quiet. Please volume up a little bit for your voice. (It's a little bit annoyed cause you have specific accent and sometimes I must listen very carefully to understand you ;) ). Greets.
Take a lesson boys and girls. Never use your video camera's mic for your voice over, especially when your other audio source(s) are directly connected to your video.
